  1. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 10:45 PM) There's not that many LHP in the MLB, so the season sample size for any given hitter against LHP is pretty small. Both Eaton and Melky were fine against LHP in 2014. Abreu is another one who was awful against LHP in 2015, but I wouldn't expect that to continue this year. Lawrie, Frazier and Navarro were good against LHP I believe last year. Just need one more bat you can play vs LHP so you don't have to count on LaRoche...or Shuck
  2. I'm pretty sure Hawk loved Sands when the Sox faced the Dodgers in his rookie season. He's no Randy Ruiz, but who is?
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 09:39 PM) NO idea if relevant or not... Chris Cotillo ‏@ChrisCotillo 6m6 minutes ago Source: Shane Victorino still looking for major-league deal, could close in on one in next few days. Chris Cotillo ‏@ChrisCotillo 7m7 minutes ago On Victorino: Cleveland was in before signing Rajai Davis, Cubs are a speculative fit, Rangers not yet interested in giving big-league deal.
  4. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 09:36 PM) How would it suck vs LHP? Melky is a switch hitter and is decent from the right side, Shuck has reverse splits, and Sands can rake lefties. Shuck and his amazing reverse splits of a .683 OPS. Melky couldn't have been much worse against LHP last year. Be nice to get another righty bat out there, especially with how bad Eaton was against LHP last year as well.
  5. QUOTE (Baron @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 09:35 PM) Yeah those were the two that have been linked to him for a while. Hopefully they are in discussions with him and he realizes he has a much better shot to start here. I was hoping the Rangers would sign Stubbs or Venable. Stubbs was linked to them over the weekend. It just seems with Jackson that if the Sox were interested, they would have locked him up by now.
  6. QUOTE (Baron @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 09:32 PM) Hopefully they come to some agreement with Jackson. He's the best fit. Defensively it would be a huge plus. We would save basically 11 runs by replacing Garcia with him. That could be a couple games worth of runs. From the same article about Crawford, there was a blurb linking the Cubs and Rangers to Jackson.
  7. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 09:31 PM) That's what Shuck and Sands are for. A Melky/Eaton/Crawford outfield with Shuck as the 4th outfielder and Sands as the 5th outfielder/platoon DH with LaRoche would be nice. That outfield isn't a contending outfield. Crawford is unreliable, and holy cow would the team suck vs LHP.
  8. QUOTE (Baron @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 10:28 PM) Defensive runs saved he actually was a minus in each position in the outfield. Awful in RF. Serviceable in LF. God Awful in CF. The best part is he had almost no assists in the outfield. Good stuff, thanks. Don't get me wrong, I want someone way better than Venable. Just seems based off of the description given by Hahn that it won't be a full-time starter that they go after.
  9. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 10:28 PM) I guess I'm just confused to why Fowler is valued as "worth it". Going rate for 1 WAR is what $7M? Fowler averages 2 WAR+ each year, so to me that seems like a very nice value. Just confusing, I guess. Cause he sucks on defense and would cost them a draft pick
  10. QUOTE (Baron @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 10:24 PM) It sucks yes Based off of what stats? Just wondering what you're looking at.
  11. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 10:22 PM) It's just hard for me to believe that Fowler at 2-3 years & $12M per is out of their price range but Cespedes & Gordon at a much higher rate wasn't. That's the type of thing that frustrates me, honestly. Again, might have been special circumstances for "star" players or the Sox backloading those contracts like crazy. We still have not heard a single confirmation that a legitimate offer was made to those guys.
  12. QUOTE (Baron @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 10:18 PM) He fits 2 of those categories. The other 2 definitely not. is his defense that bad?
  13. Interesting comment from Cafardo's Sunday article: 4. Don’t be shocked if the Dodgers part ways with Carl Crawford and eat the remaining $42 million on his contract. There comes a point of diminishing returns — and a time to fill his roster spot with a younger, more productive player — and it seems the Dodgers are getting closer to that point. http://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/2016/02/...SBUL/story.html
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 09:15 PM) Which may well mean if a guy like Fowler is signed, that Garcia ends up in the minors Daryl Van Schouwen wrote today that the belief is Fowler is out of the Sox price range.
  15. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 10:10 PM) Stop it. If this were anybody but the Cubs you wouldn't be saying anything. The Cubs absolutely had an A+ offseason and everybody know it. Completely disagree....they should have landed a top 1-2 rotation pitcher with all the resources they had available. Also not a fan of the Zobrist acquisition with his AWFUL defense last year.
  16. “We’re looking for any way to get better,” Hahn said, when asked if he liked to add another outfielder. “The final couple spots on the roster will come down to a combination of platoon advantage, speed, defense and positional flexibility.” http://www.csnchicago.com/white-sox/brett-...-series-caliber I have a feeling Will Venable is the most likely fit.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 08:14 PM) I assumed Heyward? Zobrist, even though I won't rule out Fowler until he signs elsewhere
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 08:14 PM) They finished what, 1 game back of the Pirates for home advantage in the Wild Card and 3 games back in the division? That was a race until the last couple days. Imagine hypothetically the Cardinals hit a wall the last week and only get to 97 wins. Suddenly the Cubs have a shot at home field against the Mets. Maybe it doesn't change David Murphy turning into Mike Trout, but that coulda been a different series right there. There were quite a few games where they had Arrieta go 8 or 9 innings when they were up by a handful of runs against mediocre teams.
  19. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 06:58 PM) He said they're still looking to add " any way we can" to improve the club. Today?
  20. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 07:47 PM) Rollins will make 2 million if he makes the club. Solid. I'll give Hahn massive credit for his ability to negotiate contracts. Rarely do you see a number the Sox sign a guy for that makes you cringe.
  21. I will say this...with all the talk by Arrieta at the end of last season and so far in ST about how he ran out of gas, it's amazing to me that there hasn't been one comment by the Chicago media about how Maddon abused him during the regular season last year and could have cost them big time in the postseason. At time towards the end of last year, it seemed Maddon was too concerned about trying to win Arrieta the Cy Young instead of getting him ready for the postseason.
  22. QUOTE (shipps @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 07:42 PM) fathom, we are in for a long year watching the Cubs euphoria grow. I am going to stay away from it as much as I can because the more I see it or hear about it the more annoyed I am going to get. If I turn of the tv/radio station when someone starts drooling over them it wont bother me as much as a whole. It's expected this year...last year kind of came out of nowhere. I'm just rooting for sophomore slumps and Arrieta coming back to earth.
  23. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 07:27 PM) I'll take that bet, that's easy money. Honestly, you're right. Sounds better to use 100, but after look at last year's standings from the bottom to the top, a combined 120 wins is more likely. Thanks for the input.
  24. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 06:12 PM) CF Adam Eaton LF Melky Cabrera 1B Jose Abreu 3B Todd Frazier DH Adam LaRoche 2B Brett Lawrie SS Jimmy Rollins RF Avisail Garcia C Dioner Navarro/Alex Avila Not playoff caliber lineup in my opinion. Needs one more starting player.
  25. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 07:09 PM) So you think that Rollins is still in his prime? I guess he could be, but it seems unlikely as he's already 37 years old. This is off-topic, but this signing pretty much wipes out the chance of the Sox going after Desmond, right? What do you know, Nightengale was correct once again
