It's still hard to believe they are willing to risk jobs by going with Avi and LaRoche as starters

QUOTE (shipps @ Feb 24, 2016 -> 09:50 PM) Laurence Holmes is of the belief that the Sox were never REALLY in on it with the FA's but had the thought of putting it out there that they were so it might look better to fans...which ended up back firing. I really dont know what to believe. Such a frustrating and strange off season. I agree with Holmes
-
I see nothing wrong. Hopefully they try to find an upgrade

QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Feb 24, 2016 -> 01:36 AM) I really honestly believe they need a lh run producing bat. Fowler didnt do well vs right handers last year. If Laroche doesn't bounce back the only real run producers in the lineup up is Abreu and frazier. They need another potent bat to extend the lineup Ethier?
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 24, 2016 -> 02:05 AM) I don't understand why the Sox should have paid Fowler and given up a valuable pick just because he's better than what they currently have. It would have been humorous to see White Sox fans complaining about Fowler's deal next offseason though. It's hard to imagine him having a worse 2016 than Melky's 2015 and there have been very few complaints about Melky this offseason

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 24, 2016 -> 01:28 AM) I feel bad for Avi. He tries. He has sucked but many Sox players have sucked and haven't brought out the hate, even to the point of getting booed at Soxfest as much as he. I just think it's from the Little Miggy stuff, to the potential 30/30 stuff he just probably had no shot of living up to working against him. Harold Minor was Baby Jordan. Did his home team fans hate him? If he starts, there is going to be so much pressure on him. Even if somehow he hits, is he suddenly going to know how to track down a fly All? Is he suddenly going to remember the good things Vince Coleman told him about running the bases? BTW, is Vince still with the White Sox? I said it in another thread but Hahn did Avi no favors with his comments after the Frazier deal. Also I dislike LaRoche way more than Avi. Avi always hustles....LaRoche just sucked last year.
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 24, 2016 -> 01:09 AM) If they don't ultimately add another OF, I think it has more to do with the organization being high on Avi than any financial restrictions. If true then Hahn messed up big time in his Score interview after the Frazier acquisition.

QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Feb 24, 2016 -> 12:58 AM) I'm just... Confused. The #WhiteSox claim to be broke, so if that was the case, why did they ever think trading so many prospects instead of selling was a good idea? As of right now, they projected mainly mediocre. Which is ironically what they've been a lot since 2005. Seems they are trying to contend with the same payroll from last year. I like all the acquisitions this offseason but I still have no idea if they will look to rebuild if this season goes bad

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Feb 24, 2016 -> 12:53 AM) I wonder if they're going to keep him off tv for a few weeks to shield him from the boos. If so that's super sad. Seems like a storyline to me. Video out there of Reigns likely blading -
QUOTE (Baron @ Feb 24, 2016 -> 12:52 AM) Let's just play Melky and Eaton out there instead. Let's try some weird 2 man OF defense. Eaton might need a cutoff man to throw to second
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Feb 24, 2016 -> 12:49 AM) Everything's fine. Why upgrade one of the worst defensive OFs in baseball? Maybe Avi will try a more upright stance on defense
-
With Eaton's shoulder not being close to 100 percent in terms of throwing, Austin Jackson becomes a more important target.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 23, 2016 -> 11:43 PM) $35 million + the pick is a hefty price to me, especially for a team like the Sox that always seem to be strapped for cash. That's the exact type of deal they need to be able to afford if they have no desire to outspend the big name teams for a player.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 24, 2016 -> 12:40 AM) Very true. I am extremely disappointed the Sox couldn't or wouldn't go to this level. I still think they have another move they will make, but if they don't, and Avi fails, they deserve all the grief they are going to get. I've said this in a few threads, but if they keep Avi and LaRoche as starters and the team tanks again, I see no reason for Hahn and Ventura to keep their jobs.
-
Hopefully this makes Jackson pick a team soon
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 24, 2016 -> 12:38 AM) I don't know if I should be happy or sad about him not coming to the Sox. Obviously he would've made the team better in the short term, but that's a pretty hefty price for a guy like him. Just get Jackson and I'll be happy. That's a great deal for Baltimore.
-
That's a steal for Baltimore. Hahn better have a plan in place.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Feb 21, 2016 -> 06:39 PM) Corey Ray's weekend: Friday 2-4, 2B, 2 BB, 3 R Saturday 2-2, HR, 3 RBI, 3 SB Edit: Ray 2-2 today and just crushed his 2nd HR. Want this kid bad. No way he lasts until ten unfortunately

QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 23, 2016 -> 05:32 AM) If he hits .280 in spring training give him the job. Thing is, his presence is going to steal so many at bats from our young shortstops. HOpe we have a lot of split squad days. As long as Rollins doesn't look like Bonifacio last ST, he has a great shot to be starting opening day. I have my doubts the Sox ever wanted Saladino to be a full time starter.

Reigns has been entertaining for a few months now. It's too bad the fans hate him. -
QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Feb 23, 2016 -> 04:25 AM) Except the reports are that he's going to be competing for the starting job at SS. IMO, Rollins is in the drivers seat.
-
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Feb 23, 2016 -> 04:23 AM) Uninformed speculation - art or science? Just basing it on the end result. Not one confirmed contract to any outfielder. You have the best source on Sox baseball saying they can't spend. In the end, their lack of finances have really hurt their roster construction it would seem.
-
Also likely means Nightengale was absolutely correct and they have no money left. Really seems like a trade with offsetting costs is only scenario to get an impact player

The first segment did take 30 minutes -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 10:38 PM) Doug Padilla @DougPadilla 1m1 minute ago Phoenix, AZ Puig, Chapman, Reyes domestic abuse cases on commissioner's docket. Manfred said here in PHX discipline on 2 of 3 coming soon. probably not happening, but I wonder if Dodgers are waiting on a Puig ruling before moving an outfielder
