QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 23, 2014 -> 03:46 AM) Can't blame Robin for this one but who cares the Sox are tanking fantastically towards a top 8 pick. Only thing that matters rest of the way is the production of the youth and the cornerstones like Jose and Sale and Q. Forget wins and losses the next 30 odd games and enjoy watching some of the new faces. Boston is doing their best to tank as well. White Sox just can't make up ground on them right now.

QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 23, 2014 -> 02:39 AM) It's a concern, but I'd rather have offensive players that know how to win games without the homer sometimes too. I think you need a mix. The problem is there's not a lot of home runs coming from Eaton, Micah Johnson, Avi, Gillaspie, Alexei. Gonna have to find some power in LF and DH.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 23, 2014 -> 03:11 AM) Not a Mel Tucker fan I saw enough last year to not want him back this season. This defense looks so slow. -
QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 23, 2014 -> 02:36 AM) Only one game this month with more than one homer. No surprise the Sox are 6-13. Lack of power in the lineup is a gigantic concern going forward in 2015.

Webb has terrible command of his fastball. This game started off fun, but quickly turned into the usual debacle.

3-3 double for Anderson!

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 23, 2014 -> 01:22 AM) John Danks to Bellasario, out of the fire and into the frying pan. This duo should be present at the draft next year when the Sox have a top 10 pick.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 23, 2014 -> 02:16 AM) I wonder if JR played hardball with the umpire union. I was wondering if this all could be a big FU to JR for the commish stuff

Something fishy as hell is going on with the replay umps and the White Sox.

Avi not running well

Was that an 86 mph fastball that Danks threw?

Married and The Last Ship have been great summer tv shows

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 07:16 PM) I see very few scenarios that have Victor Martinez leaving Detroit. Agreed, and I have no doubt in my mind that Hahn is looking to acquire a middle-of-the-order lefty bat. I was actually very pleased with what I heard from Hahn this morning on the Score, as it sounded like he would be aggressive this offseason.

And then there's this from the BA hot sheet chat: http://www.baseballamerica.com/chat/?1408725165 Aaron Dorman (Casino Queen): Looking back, who was the most exciting MILB player you saw play this year? Josh Norris: This is a great question, and I've certainly seen a great deal of games and players this year between college, showcases and the minors. Joey Gallo was certainly up there because of his sheer raw power, but I knew what to expect going in. With that in mind, I'll say Tim Anderson. I'd only seen him a little before, but he put on a show earlier this year at Winston-Salem hitting balls with authority to all sectors, and showing athleticism in the field and on the bases. He's rehabbing an a fractured wrist right now, but should be back if the Dash make the playoffs and could head to the Arizona Fall League.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 03:40 AM) All the Semien fans are up in arms over Sanchez getting called up and Merkin saying Johnson is the future at 2B are forgetting the Sox saw Semien as a 3B. Davidson is not the answer. If he can't make contact against AAA trash, his destiny is determined, not to mention he is not a good defensive player. He put up good numbers in Reno, but he basically had a team average OPS. Said it earlier, but between Davidson and Erik Johnson (the Sox two top prospects coming into the year), they performed so horribly this year in AAA that I don't believe they will become big league caliber starters in the future. They have been passed by numerous prospects in the system.
-
I really would like Johnson to start next season in AAA, as I don't think he's nearly ready for the majors yet. I agree with a lot of the posts in this thread that suggest Semien is the best of the bunch. With that said, I'm excited to see if Sanchez can make a case to start at 2nd next year. When the rosters expand, they better not continue to play Alexei every single day.
-
Davidson has had just a nightmare of a season. Outside of a week or two, he has been consistently terrible. To me, he's a long shot to become a MLB starter

QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 11:09 PM) Viciedo is right up there for me. For the hype and the initial impression (once he finally got a hit), Beckham has been the most disappointing. Viciedo has always been someone with a lot of question marks.
-
Looks like it might be Carlos Sanchez, as he's not playing tonight and Semien is at SS. This would be fine with me, as it gives them a longer look at Sanchez. http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?g...ox&sid=milb

Dunn....you're next!

We should know shortly who's getting promoted, as Charlotte's game starts at 5:30.
-
Gordon, thanks for absolutely destroying the Cubs in your career.

QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 09:48 PM) It was time and as a baseball move it's really not a big deal what we got in return. With that said, Gordon was a particularly likeable guy and deserves the best. Like I said, frees up some at bats for Semien and/or Sanchez and allows the Sox to save so money. Also, it makes it a whole less awkward than if they DFA'd him or benched him for the last month.
