Not as exciting as trade talk . . . - DOUBLEHEADER!!
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 09:19 PM) Why? His fastball velocity is almost already recovered and frankly his offspeed stuff has been as good or better than before the surgery in some games. The things missing are consistency with the offspeed and consistent control. Those will take, obviously, innings to get back. Just based on the history of pitchers fully recovering from shoulder surgery. With that said, his stuff is so much better than we thought it would be heading into the year. His main flaw has always been his lack of command.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 09:18 PM) Nice hard-hit ball by Beckham. How funny is it that Beckham might be our best trade chip right now?

QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 09:16 PM) That's what I'm saying. He is what he is. A 3-4 for a good team. If we keep him, fine, but don't see him being a crucial part for us in a few years when we may next be competitive. On a good team, I think he's more like a 4/5. Hard to imagine him having an ERA in the 3.5-3.7 range for another year or so.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 09:10 PM) If Danks has another good start, trade him right after it. I can't imagine any team would take him and pay his entire salary. If they were willing to, then by all means, I don't care what they get back for him.

I don't miss Delmon Young and his > .333 career average vs the Sox

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 09:08 PM) They said he's only started a couple times and he hasn't lasted through 6 in those starts? 16th career start, averages around 5.5 innings

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 07:44 PM) I'd love to trust that this is closer to the real Gordon. Alex looks as bad as I have ever seen him in his two at bats today. Wow. He's been really bad for a while now outside of the 6-6 game. He definitely seems to be lacking some focus at the plate.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 08:41 PM) As much as we've talked about not messing with something that's working, hopefully we can move him up in the order after we move some guys and then just leave him be. Yep, it's a tough call but an easy decision to move him up if you plan on him being a key member of this team going forward.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 07:36 PM) I haven't been able to watch much since he came back - has he been going to RCF like he used to as well? Not with as much authority as he did in 2008, but he's getting there. He's hit a ton of balls hard, including right at the outfielders. He's been far and away the most consistent hitter on the team.

Possible Alexei Destinations
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 02:39 PM) Then why did Alex Rios improve so much at age 31 and 32 when he had a horrible season at age 30 and 28? Rios' improvements had everything to do with mechanical adjustments at the plate

Matt Thornton to Boston
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 08:33 PM) You are right. Has absolutely nothing to do with it. Just more of the sentiment from some that either our folks aren't worth anything or we HAVE to trade them for scraps. I still agree that Matt was going to be traded but wish we had gotten a bit more in return The White Sox got pretty good value for Thornton, especially since he's basically a highly-paid LOOGY now. The only reason, in my opinion, that anyone should be frustrated with getting Jacobs back is that they likely wouldn't have had to target him if there had been any development by the outfielders in the system.

Rios, $1M traded to Rangers
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 05:50 PM) Rios' most likely destinations are the Rangers and Pirates in my opinion. I would suggest the Tigers as a dark horse for him

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 07:29 PM) Gordon's is starting to seriously drive the ball. Yep, he's awesome this year. If Rios gets traded, they need to move Beckham into the 3rd spot.

Please someone take Danks and that contract BTW, Sox could pull within 3 games of the Astros after today for last place in the majors

Rosenthal: Sox should market Sale
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 06:18 PM) Santiago is about the easiest athlete to root for that you'll come across. Near Jim Thome level. +1

Konerko/Crain to DL - Purcey/Morel called up
It's getting harder to imagine him being healthy enough to pitch well and raise his stock before the deadline. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,3112864.story

Matt Thornton to Boston
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 03:23 AM) It is ironic after drafting four toolsy outfielders that we needed yet another. Signs of an awful farm system

Matt Thornton Appreciation Thread
I remember him coming in on opening day in 2006 and being worried he was going to walk the world. He had a nice inning, and the rest has been a very good career with the White Sox.

Matt Thornton to Boston
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 04:15 AM) Who will be the lefty in the pen the rest of the year? Is Veal comimg back? I am a big Thornton fan, but this is what happens when you play like this. It is a lottery ticket. I wonder whose ABs in Birmingham where I assume he will be sent, Jacobs will be taking. My uneducated guess would be that Mitchell gets sent to Charlotte again

Matt Thornton to Boston
10:00pm: The White Sox are sending a six-figure payment to Boston, meaning that the Red Sox will pick up the bulk of the $3.5MM owed to Thornton, tweets Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com.
