  1. 2 outs, runner on 3rd, and you pitch to Babe LaHair and not Ian Stewart? Ouch
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 9, 2012 -> 07:49 PM) He's pitching one inning at a time. Probably averages 17-18 pitches an inning. If he pitches 70 innings x 18 pitches, its 1260 pitches. If he averages 100 pitches a start, that's 13 starts, plus Stone mentioned in the bullpen he can be a 2 pitch pitcher and that will cut down the stress on his elbow as well. Judging by last night, he's going fastball/slider and not throwing the change-up. I agree with the innings thing over the course of the year...it was more the next few weeks where it seems they're possibly risking it. Any possiblity that this is a stress fracture type thing waiting to happen, as that makes more sense than elbow ligaments based on how it's being treated.
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 9, 2012 -> 07:44 PM) Which makes more sense than anything else anyone has offered. The puzzling thing is how would pitching 3 times a week possibly throwing maybe 50 pitches during a week salvage his arm as opposed to a start with 100 pitches? Seems like a very fine line.
  4. I'll give the organization a lot of credit if they show they're not stubborn and actually are willing to put him back in the rotation or on the DL, etc. I have no problem with an organization reversing course so quickly if they feel it's in the best interest of the team.
  5. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 9, 2012 -> 03:01 PM) This is hilarious. When they announced he was going to the pen, no one on the Sox (that I saw) was quoted as saying it was permanent. But posters on SoxTalk decided that must be true, so it was. Now they are saying it isn't permanent, and posters are all upset about the inconsistency. The inconsistency only existed in the heads of people here! Hawk sure seemed to think it was permanent with his comment about how it's more difficult to find a good closer than a starter.
  6. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 9, 2012 -> 03:19 AM) One, there is no guarantee a base hit scores a run from 2nd. Second, how does the team "deserve the meltdown" ever? BTW, since you trashed Dirks, he's now 5-6 with 4 RBI for a nice 1.024 OPS on the year
  7. One thing I'll credit the Cubs coaching under Sveum is that they put on some extreme shifts. From the games I've watched, they've really benefited from this.
  8. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ May 9, 2012 -> 02:42 AM) Oh Kerry Wood you are fun to watch. Him and Marmol in the same bullpen is just ridiculous entertainment.
  9. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ May 9, 2012 -> 03:39 AM) Bottom third of the order was 0-19 with a walk today. I mentioned this in the game thread at the beginning, but this was one of those games where you want to get maybe one more lefty into the lineup. Masterson is just a really tough match-up against righties, but it's good experience for Viciedo. He'll learn that against someone like Masterson, you don't have to try and hit 3 homers in that game and just accept a 1-3 with a single to right and a walk.
  10. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ May 9, 2012 -> 02:35 AM) Hearing Nic Moore is leaving. f***. Any idea to where?
  11. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ May 9, 2012 -> 02:29 AM) What we know after today: Reed is a closer, Beckham is back? If Rios can keep it going then were left with 1 and a half of a hole in the lineup: Looking at Morel and Viciedo. Ramirez has been worse than Viciedo. Far and away, the biggest key for the offense is hoping that the two Cubans pick it up like their track record suggests they will. If your 7 and 8 hitters can do some damage, you can survive with Morel in the 9th spot.
  12. BTW, congrats to Santiago on getting first career win
  13. Regardless of what happened tonight, it will be interesting to see when Sale pitches again. I don't think he'll be able to go tomorrow, so the Thursday off day is nice as well for him to recover.
  14. Three games now this year that you can say Rios won for the Sox.
  15. Cardinals offense is just going bonkers in the desert right now
  16. QUOTE (Jake @ May 9, 2012 -> 02:12 AM) interesting Where did you even get that post from?
  17. Filthy Reed! So let me see...Danks pitched well and Reed closed effectively? Awesome night
  18. QUOTE (Jake @ May 9, 2012 -> 03:08 AM) or gets caught at a bar The only guy in the sport that gets massacred for every single drink. I understand the past, but it's still kind of odd. Seems like it should be private unless it affects his play One slip up thought and he could get banned for life, correct?
  19. Hawk making a crazy, ridiculous prediction that Carlos Santana might have a good future. One more Reed...shut down HHHafner
  20. Need to get Mitchell and Phegley going again.
  21. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 9, 2012 -> 03:01 AM) Nah, that was just a good, smart slide. Oh, I didn't mean it was a bad slide at all. He slid to the back part of the plate like he was supposed to, but it was almost a pop-up slide.
  22. Got lucky there...he almost missed the plate on his slide.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 9, 2012 -> 01:57 AM) That might have been the biggest RF gap I've seen in year's. Makes no sense as that's where he's been hitting the ball this year. I think he just hit it so damn hard that it skipped to the wall.
