  1. Let the Spring Training overreactions begin!!
  2. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Mar 5, 2012 -> 03:11 AM) Imagine how many more rebounds Omer Asik could get if he, you know, jumped. Asik looks heavier this year than last year, and his agility seems to have been negatively impacted. Rose's layup in the 3rd when he flew by Elton Brand was just special.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 2, 2012 -> 02:55 PM) I just remember PK early in his career used to take each at bat so seriously, and he would take a bad result with him for the rest of the game at times. Heck I swear you could put him in a slump if you made him look bad enough. Beckham has some of the same tendencies. In the game threads, I'll often remark that if Beckham looks bad in his first AB, you might as well pull him for the rest of the game. Similar to how Paul O'Neill was.
  4. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Mar 2, 2012 -> 05:26 PM) Exactly. I agree with you completely. And I think if he'll be batting out of the 8 or 9 spot all season with little pressure to produce, he could be a pleasant surprise. I'm quite interested in seeing how he develops this season. Maybe the best thing to happen all last season for the Sox was Morel's last month of the season when he started trying to actually hit the ball with authority. He has a ton of power when he pulls the ball, but as of now, he doesn't have enough power to the opposite field to be anything but a singles hitter if he keeps the approach he had for the majority of the season.
  5. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 2, 2012 -> 05:33 PM) Not as a starter, given he doesn't take many walks that's a pretty big hole and below replacement level. As a supporting player on a team batting 8th or 9th in the non-steroid era, he'd be starting caliber.
  6. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Mar 2, 2012 -> 05:20 PM) Because something similar has happened in the past doesn't mean it will happen again. I happen to think Morel will turn into a nice player. The thing is, Morel's glove can be good enough where he doesn't have to display massive power in order to be a useful player. If he can hit .270 with 15 homers, he'll be very useful.
  7. In no particular order: Bobby Jenks Warren Newson Paul Konerko Mark Buehrle Danny Tartabull Julio Franco Gordon Beckham Carlos Lee

    2012 TV Thread

The beginning and end of Awake was good. I about fell asleep during the middle part of it though. I don't see how the show can last very long though.
  9. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 05:27 AM) Last time I checked, an injured ankle shouldn't hinder your ability to see the plate and draw walks, and as far as baseball SKILLS go, that's what Mitchell was known for. Definitely too early to write him off, but certainly hopes are dwindling. Based off the MLB.com list, I'm intrigued with Snodgress. I agree with youa bout Snodgress. IIRC, the Sox almost took him with their first pick.
  10. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 19, 2012 -> 05:13 AM) G.? I don't know who that is. Wichita State coach Gregg Marshall
  11. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Feb 19, 2012 -> 04:57 AM) So who coaches Illinois next year? I don't even know who to throw out there as a realistic name... I think it's going to be G. Marshall. They want Shaka, but supposedly he isn't the biggest fan of the Big 10.
  12. Didn't Sam's injury take place last year? Not sure how it is surprising that he has had injury issues. Weber also lucked in to Dee staying a 4th year when he broke his foot.
  13. Weber continues to make excuses, as he said today in his press conference how losing Jamar Smith and Richmond unexpectedly, as well as injuries to Frazier and Maniscalco really hurt the program. I can't believe some of the stuff he says, as every program has to deal with things like this and it's hard to feel bad for the Jamar/Richmond stuff when Weber kept Luther Head around. I couldn't imagine how Weber would have reacted if it was actually star players his team lost to injury, like how ND has had to overcome losing Abro this season.
  14. Weber is on a roll right now with just pathetic comments. He threw the entire team under the bus tonight. Just a despicable postgame press conference.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 16, 2012 -> 06:05 AM) What role do you see for Fukudome? Late inning pinch hitter on a team that doesn't figure to contend? Makes little sense. Replacement for Pierre? That would mean he's a regular from Day One, making DeAza sit. In my eyes we already had a backup with some pop in his bat in Lilly. There's a lot of righty starters in our division. Fukudome is significantly better against RHP than Lillibridge, and he's also a very suitable defensive replacement for Viciedo. By having someone you can use defensively instead of Lillibridge, it allows you to let Lillibridge run for someone late in the game instead of being forced to use someone slow like Morel.
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 16, 2012 -> 04:36 AM) That's why I said, 'just to piss me off' You know that's how it's going to go, though. No way Robin is going to bench Rios through the all-star break at least. He'll be playing every day through the first few weeks of hot weather. You have no freaking idea how Robin is going to manage. Hopefully Robin has the guts to make difficult decisions, unlike our last manager.
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 16, 2012 -> 04:34 AM) The offseason from hell for Sox fans continues. A's get Cespedes. Sox get ... Fukodome. What an organization. Actually, the Fukudome signing was great. Probably one of the best bargains of the entire offseason, and it's a perfect fit for what the Sox needed. With regards to Cespedes, I'll be surprised if he's more productive this year than Fukudome is.
  18. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 16, 2012 -> 04:37 AM) Is it humanly possible to be as dumb as Branding Paul Wait until he signs with an agent after the season
  19. J4L, Anthony Morrow's in the 3 point contest this year!!
  20. The ironic thing about Weber complaining about that Minnesota call is that it was still a close enough play to be called a foul on Leonard. There's significantly worse calls made in each game than that one. Weber reminds me of Hawk Harrelson here.
  21. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Feb 15, 2012 -> 07:53 PM) He is done mentally and it is clear based on Thomas's comments that Weber is going to get fired. Yep, anyone and everyone with inside sources seems to be saying that even a Sweet 16 run won't keep him around.
  22. I see now where Weber said that thing about the Minnesota game. What an insecure loser. That is one of the lamest statements I've ever read from a professional/collegiate coach. I just read where Chad Qualls stated that he shouldn't be charged with giving up Konerko's home run in Game 2 of the World Series because Dye wasn't hit by a pitch, and that it should have been a foul ball.
  23. Wait, did Weber really say that about the Minnesota game?
  24. I was going to suggest this last week...I love this signing. Gives us a lefty that can help rest Viciedo against tough righties. And one thing is for sure...he'll hit great in April.
