2011-2012 OFFICIAL NBA LOCKOUT thread
Haven't seen it mentioned a lot, but I find it interesting that Dirk was traded by the Buck to Mavs for recently deceased Robert Traylor.

Jake Peavy willing to go to the bullpen
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 08:48 PM) Jhesus, he has an .860 OPS for the year. No wonder the Tigers have taken over first. With Austin Jackson picking it up and Boesch adding some punch, that lineup is quite scary. They're one trade away from being in a great position to win the AL Central. I thought Phil Coke had been horrible, but was shocked to see how good his ERA is.

Hawk's Irrational Dream Team
So who are the players that Hawk seems to have a love for even though they're not exactly all star players? I can think of the following: - Carlos Gomez (Team Captain) - Kurt Suzuki - Randy Ruiz - Brandon Inge - Matt Harrison

Jake Peavy willing to go to the bullpen
QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 08:44 PM) Between Jake Peavy and Juan Pierre, we have the J.P. initials well covered in talks. Can we trade for Jhonny Peralta?

Jake Peavy willing to go to the bullpen
I'm just shocked at how much slack White Sox fans have shown Peavy. I don't hate Jake, I just don't really care for him that much as I view him as a colossal waste of money so far in a Sox jersey due to injuries and inconsistency. I wonder what people would be saying if he didn't come to Chicago with a "gamer" reputation, and instead had a reputation like Judy Garland.

Jake Peavy willing to go to the bullpen
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 08:35 PM) That people here are regularly arguing otherwise? Yes, there's a handful of posters that believe he can recapture his ability.

Jake Peavy willing to go to the bullpen
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 08:32 PM) Someone said something about jumps to conclusions? Jump to conclusions that he's no longer of the same caliber he was?

Jake Peavy willing to go to the bullpen
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 08:27 PM) The complaining is bad enough, but the jumps to conclusions that don't even make sense are what is driving me crazy. And to play devil's advocate, it drives some people crazy that there are posters that still view him as the NL Cy Young caliber pitcher before injuries and pitching in the Grand Canyon in a different era.

Jake Peavy willing to go to the bullpen
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 06:59 PM) How on Earth would moving Peavy to the pen necessitate adjustments to the pen? taking away valuable innings from Lucas Harrell or Brian Bruney? I was talking about having Peavy back in the rotation, and why unless he's going to be healthy, he's just a distraction and disrupts the flow of the team. I don't think they'll ever move him back to the pen, but if they're doing it for the rest of the year, then I'm fine with that (since we have a need for another righty reliever).

Jake Peavy willing to go to the bullpen
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 06:35 PM) This post has no logic, none. We are much better with Peavy and the attitude he brings to the clubhouse. The point that if we make adjustments to the rotation, and more importantly, the pen to accomodate Peavy again just to have him get hurt and mess up the rotation is why I think we're better off without him this year (since it doesn't seem like he'll be 100% again). I was excited that maybe Peavy turned a corner with that great Indians start, but it seemed that game just took a lot out of him as his fastball was way down after it. I'd much rather go with the 5 man rotation we have and try and get another righty into the pen. And for the record, I think that a less than 100% Peavy would be our 6th best starting pitcher.

2011 White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 06:41 PM) I'd still trade him for Logan Morrison in a heartbeat. What's faster than a heartbeat? That's how fast I'd do that, as Morrison is going to be a stud and he seems like a great clubhouse guy also.

2011 White Sox Catch-All Thread
I know a few weeks ago, people were saying that the Marlins wouldn't be an option for Ozzie since they were doing so well. Since then, they've imploded and look to be on their way to a disappointing season. Just something to keep an eye on for the next few months.

The Juan Pierre Debacle
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 06:28 PM) And yet Milledge has a massive fan club two months ago. Cause people didn't know that he was bad defensively. He also was supposed to be a lefty masher, which is something we've lacked lately from our outfielders.

The Juan Pierre Debacle
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 05:20 PM) A roster spot? I have no problem with that. There is a market for 4th OFs with some speed. I just wish we had another guy who could hit leadoff to get him out of the line up. He doesn't profile as a good 4th outfielder. He is bad defensively, can only play one outfield position, and let's face it, his inability to steal bases efficiently now has negated his speed. Meanwhile, Lillibridge is the perfect 4th outfielder.

The Juan Pierre Debacle
QUOTE (Carlo Paz @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 05:10 PM) In my opinion this issue can not be talked about too much. It's nice to imagine that the people in charge of the club that you root for know what they are doing. Eagerly acquiring a barely replacement level player because he happens to fit a certain profile, and then playing him every day no matter how he performs makes me feel very strongly that 2005 was a fluke and that Kenny & Ozzie are basically replacement level themselves.

Jake Peavy willing to go to the bullpen
QUOTE (kapzk @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 05:40 PM) Well, then the shot at winning anything is extremely slim then unless KW sells the farm for a #1 pitcher which won't happen cuz our farm system sucks So you think Peavy can be an ace again this year?

WTF are we waiting for ? Call up Viciedo !
QUOTE (YASNY @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 03:51 PM) We should trade JP to the Cubs before we play them. For what? Who cares? He'd steal 5 bases against us in the series, no doubt.

Jake Peavy willing to go to the bullpen
QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 03:43 PM) After reading the article, this is probably something as simple as a reporter asking Peavy how he thinks he could do in a bullpen role, to which any pitcher (especially someone as team-oriented as Jake) would give a similar response to. What was he gonna say if asked about it directly? No? Once they get what they want to hear, they make it seem like one day Peavy woke up and out of the blue declared that he wants to go to the bullpen. Might want to tell Ozzie that, as they said they'll have to consider this and what's best for Peavy's health.

Jake Peavy willing to go to the bullpen
QUOTE (YASNY @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 03:35 PM) If you look at the schedule, we have days off on the 23rd and 27th. With a 6 man rotation, that really stretches out time between starts. Let him ride it out in the pen, pick their spots to use him, see how he responds. Then maybe give him a start before the ASG, put him back in the rotation after the break. Makes sense to me. But then you have questions about him having to gain stamina again if he's only pitching a few innings every week. It's not an ideal situation, and I don't think for a second the Sox will go through with it. I do follow what you're saying, and it wouldn't be the worst thing.

Jake Peavy willing to go to the bullpen
Honestly, I think it's extremely unselfish of Jackson to say he'll go the pen. He has the most to lose out of anyone on the roster this season.

Jake Peavy willing to go to the bullpen
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 04:27 PM) This is thing that drives me crazy about Soxtalk. One day Peavy is an asshole for pushing himself too hard. The very next week when he offers to do something to try to help the team, and put himself in a situation to save himself a little more, he gets taken apart. Who's taking him apart? I have no problem with him saying this (even though it's funny to see how people get so excited to hear him say "grinder-ish" things), it's just that it's probably not in his or the team's best interest to have him be a reliever UNLESS there is reason for him to question his ability to remain a starter.

Jake Peavy willing to go to the bullpen
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 03:22 PM) Edwin Jackson did it. Is he a quitter too? So did Phil Humber. Was I the only one who heard Ozzie's radio comments about this yesterday during the pregame show? No doubt in my mind there was more to Peavy's statement rather than just wanting to help out the team.

Jake Peavy willing to go to the bullpen
Yep, Peavy needs to be in the starting rotation if he's going to be on the big league club. I must be the only one that thinks him being in the bullpen and having to warm up more than a few times a week would be a disaster.

Jake Peavy willing to go to the bullpen
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 03:52 PM) Sounds like Peavy is 'surrendering' to me more than anything. Like he knows his days of 30+ starts and 220 IP are over. Which is ridiculous if he came to this conclusion after a groin strain.
