Official 2010-2011 NCAA Basketball Thread

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 11, 2011 -> 04:25 AM) The latter is on Weber. However, he does not change the gameplan with a lead, at least not in the last two seasons. Fair enough. I like to play a game by looking at the game thread on Illini sites before checking the score. If you didn't know better, you'd think Minnesota was up by 25. Considering how poorly Illinois has shot, being down 1 here isn't bad at all. -

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 11, 2011 -> 03:20 AM) That's the players. How do you figure? It's been happening since Deron left. If it's on the players, then shame on Weber for not figuring out a way after all this time of getting them to speed it up. -

QUOTE (hitlesswonder @ Feb 11, 2011 -> 04:07 AM) So that's something else that Illinois does with regularity that I don't understand. Do they change the offense they run once they get a lead? Like running more clock and taking lousy shots as time expires? Or is it that when other teams bring defensive pressure they can't handle it (they are an overall poor ball-handling team)? It seems to happen a lot, and like the road shooting, I don't understand why. Weber has historically slowed down the pace in the 2nd half if his team has a lead. A lot of the time, it's ruined the flow of the offense and led to a lot of rushed shots at the end of shot clock. -
QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 10:17 PM) For no reason I can explain I've always felt there was something like that with him. Deron's a good guy...compared to the other two members of the big three from Illinois (Dee and Head), he's an absolute saint. I would say this is probably a case of fame getting the best of him.
-
One thing that Dilfer said about Newton that I agree with is how the ball seems to just fly out of his hand. After watching Locker in some of these workouts, Newton is far and away a better pick, IMO, than Jake.
-
I think it's more likely Deron goes to Dallas. It's weird, never heard of him having attitude issues.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 07:51 PM) The best line was at the resturant where they are talking about being at dinner at 6:30 and Phil says, "this place is on fire" and it was all old folks. Claire and Phil make that show. The storylines for Cam and Mitchell are usually pretty bad. I usually hate the Cam/Mitchell story lines, yet Cam (E. Stonestreet) is the one who wins all of the awards. It's crazy to me, as Phil (and Luke) are far and away the most entertaining characters.

Albert Pujols' extension - Cards fail to extend by deadline
fathom replied to chisoxfan09's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 07:28 PM) That is exactly what has to happen. The Cardinals can only get the value for him if he signs an extension. Without the extension you will get he value of two draft picks for him. Screw the draft picks. If you're out of it at the deadline and know you're not going to go 10/300 million, then you trade him and try to get an amazing package. I liked the package proposed earlier of Morales, Trout, and Weaver. Hell, I'd say the Cardinals would be better with those three than just Pujols taking up 1/3 of their budget. -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 04:33 PM) Taj is incredibly valuable in this league. He's a big who can play well above average defense and has some decent offensive potential. Not many of those guys in the league. And he can play D on both C's and PF's. It is why we are talking about potentially moving him in a Carmelo deal. He's valuable in the sense of if you get him in a trade for Courtney Lee, you think your team won. However, I just don't see these role players being able to get you Carmelo Anthony. Let's not forget that Taj is old for a 2nd year player, so it's not like he's someone like D. Favors where you can project him adding a lot of strength due to being 18 years old.
-
Something I keep hearing is that the Nuggets want Landry Fields to be a big part of the Melo to Knicks trade. I might be Landry's biggest fan, but players like him are a dime a dozen. Kinda like Bulls fans who begged the Bulls not to get rid of Taj last offseason.

Albert Pujols' extension - Cards fail to extend by deadline
fathom replied to chisoxfan09's topic in The Diamond Club
2011 Cubs Slogan: Screw this season, we have a chance at Pujols! I still can't see this happening, as Cards would trade Pujols at the deadline if they're out of it and know they can't re-sign him. -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 04:04 PM) Wow, this show looks so awesome and so right up my alley. Holy s***. It has a really nice set of actors I like in it, too... Jimmi Simpson (McPoyle) Robert Knepper Domenick Lombardozzi Knepper was amazing on Prison Break, so hopefully he plays a big role in this.

QUOTE (Cali @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 06:49 AM) Modern Family has been missing waaaaaay more than it's been hitting this year. At least to me.... It's still a great show, but that was definitely a disappointing episode.
-
Jazz with some terrible possessions down the stretch. Anyone else think Deng got hammered by Kirilenko with 50 seconds left in the game? Great win!
-
Boozer's matador defense down the stretch here is sad.
-
I wasn't necessarily emotional when watching FNL finale, but when it was over, it definitely made me sad that we'll never see another episode. I already can't wait for 3 years down the road when Becky is in a movie with straight hair and I'm going to be like "that girl is so hot, she was on FNL."

Can't get the spoiler tab to work, but there's some more evidence out there that Zooey might be the mother.

QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 02:01 AM) O-VER-TIME! Lville fans are livid about the technical to end the first half. -
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Feb 9, 2011 -> 05:34 AM) Wasn't the best Tosh but it was still solid. Yeah, the web redemption was awful. Next week's should be good though.

The last 3 minutes of Tosh.O are amazing!

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Feb 8, 2011 -> 07:24 PM) What caused his injury is his natural mechanics. When Peavy throws, after the release of the pitch his arm swings back upward instead of allowing inertia to carry it across his chest beneath him. (see the Mitch Williams analysis on the Sox webpage...)This results in his lat muscle taking most of the deceleration impact which is very dangerous and asking for trouble. IMO, If Jake wants to recover and excel, he's gonna have to alter that follow-though and from what I know about Jake, he's not gonna want to do that. The best thing for Jake and the team is to work that into his mechanics NOW. That is the work Cooper was doing with him last year and he just didn't want to stay with it because he was ineffective out there. Nice analysis, but that's the thing...just as important as Peavy's velocity is the torque on his slider. I don't even want to think about his first few starts last year where he was just rolling that thing towards the plate.
-
It's so frustrating to hear that some of the bad habits he picked up at the end of 2009 might have caused his slow start in 2010 and the injury he ended up suffering.

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Feb 8, 2011 -> 06:21 PM) So what is Iowa State missing for 2012-2013? A bank robber at SF? It's pretty embarassing, in all honesty. -
Thanks 99. I just started watching HIMYM this year, and have DVR'd so many old episodes that I feel I watch 5 shows of it a night. One observation is that Robin has gotten significantly less attractive as time has gone on. As my wife says when watching it "motherhood has not been kind to her".
-
QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Feb 8, 2011 -> 05:04 PM) So after a run of pretty good episodes I thought HIMYM was pretty bad last night. It might be because I think the Zoey storyline is awful and pointless but I guess we will see where they go with it. She clearly is not the mother and I fail to see how Ted having yet another failed major relationship adds anything to the show. How do we know she's not the mom?
