  1. And now Cowley is saying talks aren't going as well with Wood.
  2. QUOTE (Ranger @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 03:55 AM) Yes, I think there should be plenty of cushion given to the GM that operates the way he does, and in particular this offseason. Because regardless of the outcome, there is only so much over which he has absolute control. The actual performance of Dunn, PK, Peavy, Danks, Floyd, Rios, Crain, Thornton, etc. is not really in his control. I couldn't disagree more. Someone like Peavy had huge question marks coming over to the AL and leaving the pitcher's haven that is PetCo. There were also a lot of red flags that existed with Peavy that people in the baseball industry had over his long term productivity. KW took a huge risk by taking on that contract, and if he could get out of that deal, it seems likely he would right now.
  3. 3/13? Pretty high, but not crippling.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 03:30 AM) Really guys, KW is not trading one of those guys as a salary dump in order to bring in Kerry Wood or Jesse Crain. It's just not happening. Only way those guys get moved is if it's a legit good deal. Agreed, I think KW would be motivated to deal someone like Floyd for a few good prospects. If they do sign Wood to close, then maybe Sale goes into the rotation?
  5. A few years ago, there were rumors of Todd Walker going to play for the Sox. He said something about how he could never switch teams within the city of Chicago, and Wood was the first person to say that Walker was dead on for saying that. I would be shocked to see Wood agree to play for the Sox.
  6. Wood be fascinating to see Wood come here, as it would have to be with the promise of being a closer. If this happens, someone like Quentin or Danks or Floyd is definitely getting traded.
  7. Rock, if you had to guess, would the salary dump be Quentin, Teahen, or a bigger trade like Danks?
  8. QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 02:29 AM) No D at MSG Great game and great atmosphere though
  9. Crain carried that bullpen after the ASB last year, and easily was one of their most important players. He had some filthy stuff during that span, as he made our hitters look foolish.
  10. This is fantastic news for the White Sox. I'm not concerned about Yankees spending money to sign relievers, as it's not like the White Sox were going to spend significant money on any remaining relievers. It's obvious any significant reliever we bring in will be via trade.
  11. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 14, 2010 -> 05:16 AM) Honestly a good bullpen. I think the Sox have the best balance of the two teams. Philly has awesome starting pitching(not just great), but their bullpen is not better than ours and neither is their offense. Boston has a great offensive team now even without Beltre. Their starting pitching is questionable as well as their bullpen. I like Lackey alot still along with Lester. Beckett is a question mark. I'm not yet sold on Clay and Dice K is Bust K to me. Clay is way better than Lackey.
  12. QUOTE (Ranger @ Dec 13, 2010 -> 11:05 PM) But I don't think it's fair to say he's been horrible at gathering information this offseason. I don't want to see what you consider horrible then. I don't care for a second about his stupid feud with this site over the Gonzalez stuff. All I know is this guy's track record is terrible with regards to breaking stories about the team he covers.
  13. Rod Wilson is terrible, out of position far too often.
  14. Juan Pierre is one of the hardest players in baseball over the last 15 years to strike out.
  15. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Dec 11, 2010 -> 09:22 PM) Langford won't play much as a freshman, IMO. Bertrand isn't that good. Paul/Richardson/Richmond are the starters 1-3. And then there minutes to be won. Abrams/Henry are still freshman, so Crandall will have an edge on them assuming his head is on straight. That's the only way I see him leaving is because of academic issues. If Paul has a good Big 10 season or strong postseason, look for him to try and test the draft waters.
  16. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 11, 2010 -> 09:46 PM) Yep, heck they have bets on who scores the first bucket, who creates the first turnover, and who's likely to make a 3 pointer first. Combined 3 pointers is always a fun bet
  17. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Dec 11, 2010 -> 08:46 PM) Quick Litmus: if Morel performed just a touch better than Getz did that one year (offensively), would we be satisfied? I think I would. He better hit for more power.
  18. Congrats on the win Heads, but Iowa St. might win the all-ugly team this year. At least The Mayor looks spiffy in his suit.
  19. Cowley now saying Sox are looking for a "Carlos Lee-esque package" in return for Quentin.
  20. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 11, 2010 -> 08:53 PM) Yeah, if I'm Bertrand, I'm definitely transferring because he has no future with Illinois. I'd consider thinking the same if I was Crandall Head too. I've heard that Head's stay in Champaign won't be very long. He just doesn't have his head on straight, and really never has. I know for a fact that his people reached out to DePaul ever after he announced for Illinois, but they couldn't get on the same page.
  21. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 11, 2010 -> 07:53 PM) Well, this offseason HAS gone pretty well. True, I still don't think it's sunk in yet that we have Adam Dunn AND Konerko back.
  22. I wonder what directional school in Illinois Bertrand will transfer to now?
  23. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 11, 2010 -> 08:47 PM) Does anyone else think that a Viciedo/Domonic Brown RF platoon wouldn't be the worst thing to happen? Goodness people, do you really think the Phillies are going to give up the top prospect in baseball for Carlos Quentin?
  24. It was great to see Thibs abandon the pick and roll and go more to the post up offense. That changed the entire flow of the game.
