QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 11:40 PM) I'm quite intrigued. Honestly, I couldn't be happier right now. If PK comes back, then great, he's my favorite Sox player ever. If it's Lee and 1-2 relievers, then that's perfect also.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 11:40 PM) Asked KW if a 3rd option (1. PK 2. others) could be NOT spending for a new player: "When Jerry gives me some money, I'm spending it" - Brett Ballantini Haha, I love it! I honestly think Viciedo will not be in the Sox organization when January comes around.

The story about KW being ready to announce the signing, and then the snag taking place makes no sense. It would seem like the money parameters would have to be agreed upon to even think the deal was close.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 10:18 PM) He's on the Score right now basically saying that half an hour ago KW was ready to announce the signing then something went horribly wrong and it's quite possibly 100% over, as in KW has already said goodbye. He says the sticking point is likely that Konerko wants that $15M a year to be a higher paid player than Dunn, KW expected this number to come down but it did not. This is probably for the best: $15M a year is a joke, I have a huge problem with paying a guy based on what he's done and not what he's going to do. There's no way in hell Konerko is a $15M a year deal over the next 3 seasons. Cowley says D Lee's name is picking up steam and I say hell yeah. Great post, and if it means adding a reliever while gaining draft picks as well, I'm all for it.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 10:23 PM) Which one of those relievers did KW overpay for? Was Cotts too much to give up for Aardsma? You didn't like the Danks/Masset combo? Ross Gload was too much to give up for Sisco? The nothing we gave up for Jenks and Santos was too hard? You want Borchard back and Thornton gone? Usually if you're going to rip KW for something, you do better than this. I agree, he hasn't done it before. However, he's even said he's going to have to get creative to fill some of these roster spots, and just seems like the most likely scenario to me.

QUOTE (Pale Sox @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 09:21 PM) Broxton! lol I've been wondering about a Viciedo and Flowers trade for Broxton.

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 09:18 PM) No joke, as nice as it would be to have PK in that lineup, the bullpen is the key to the season. Cannot be overstated. My fear is it takes a backseat to the sentimentality of JR. And that KW would then overpay in a trade of Quentin for some hard throwing, not as effective as should be reliever.

QUOTE (spiderman @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 08:56 PM) While I understand the urgency for the White Sox to get resoultion on the Konerko situation (I'm actually surprised that it has taken this long, I'm assuming the White Sox are offering him about what they gave Dunn on a per year basis), if the backup plan is LaRoche, I'm willing to wait this out for a little while longer. Agreed, I can't stand Laroche, so I'm happy to hear he's going to the Cubs in all likelihood.
-
QUOTE (joeynach @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 08:56 PM) Yeah Andrew Sisco, Ryan Bukvich, David Aardsma are all calling in. And all calling in collect cause none of them were making significant money when they were in our bullpen.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 06:17 PM) I was not aware of this. The hell with Pena, too. Don't know why people are talking about Carlos Pena. His asking price is supposedly way too high, Boras is his agent, and he's the Cubs #1 target. No thanks to him...I don't want to have to hear Hawk talk naively about how the ball just started to jump off Pena's bat a few years ago for no particular reason.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 06:23 PM) I wonder what it would take to get D. Lee and Scott Downs?? The 13 or so million it would take to sign Konerko.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 05:17 PM) I really wish they would call his bluff and tell him to have fun playing in Baltimore. PK did not earn his money for most of his last contract, and now he wants an increase. Walk away. Someone made a great point on the radio. If this was the offseason after 2009, D. Lee would be getting the big multi-year deal and Konerko would be the one who'd be lucky to get a multi-year deal for 6-8 million.
-
QUOTE (C_LEE45 @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 05:17 PM) well PK do you want a chance to go deep in the playoffs or go win 70 games and more money with the DBACKS??????? thats what KW should ask PK and also have loyal fans that have backed you threw the good and bad!!!!!!! Or maybe PK wants to go out after a great year and not risk signing a 3 year deal and having a miserable final season?
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 05:14 PM) Sweet. Maybe we can sign Mark Prior to be our 5th starter. Between Peavy and Wood, we're going to lead the league in simulated starts. Sox better start saving up on towels for the throwing drills.
-
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 04:32 PM) It's all negotiations. The Sox and Konerko (Landis) just started talking in-depth Monday because prior to Paul felt it was in his best interest to shop his services. Then Dunn/AJ came back and things changed from his perspective. Negotiations are never simple. Paul doesn't have much leverage here because the market is pretty dry for him, but he and his agent are still playing this slow to try and get the best deal possible. Konerko went into the offseason thinking his time with the White Sox was done. KW and JR know this, which is why they made the public ploy about Dunn and AJP taking less money. PK is definitely not going to take any home town discounts, and if anything, we might have to pay some more money than the Dbacks would.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 05:00 PM) Cowley saying PK is asking for $15M per year. Good luck elsewhere PK.
-
QUOTE (sircaffey @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 12:31 AM) It'd be nice to have a bullpen so you can develop Sale as a SP. Because we are going to need that in 2012. The thing is, as much as we think that, it appears KW, Ozzie, and Cooper want him in the bullpen next year no matter what.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 12:25 AM) We went from Mark Kotsay to Adam Dunn. I just can't get upset about the bullpen right now. I totally agree.
-
For some reason, I can envision a Quentin for Matt Lindstrom and a prospect trade.
-
If the Sox weren't in contention, they would have shut down Santos in August for the season. He'll be fine, he'll learn how to pace himself through a 162 game season better. I'm not worried about the bullpen at all right now, as people are overpaying for bullpen pieces right now.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 10:54 PM) If Sale closes, who starts? Garcia is the 5th until Peavy's healthy. As much as I want Sale to start, I think that ship has sailed for next year.
-
I'll say this: the Sox know about any non-physical issues he might be having more than anyone else, so if they do bring him back, I'll trust that they're confident everything will work out.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 09:40 PM) And I'm not one to throw out these advanced stats too often, but for 2M a year, I think the Sox would be fools not to bring him back. But he'll get more than that from a team thinking he can still close. I think the Sox would be fools to bring him back as a closer.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 10:35 PM) Unlucky? It was that high because he was routinely getting hammered. It's not like Jenks was giving up a ton of soft hits. I'll tip my cap to our relievers, when they got hit, they got hit very hard.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 10:22 PM) Putz will be hard. Sox don't want to go long-term and he can get long-term deal. I think Jenks plus another guy come back, but that other guy might be someone we eventually trade for. Byrdak and Dotel are my guesses.
