QUOTE (justBLAZE @ May 27, 2010 -> 08:59 PM) I really think CQ is getting a day off because he isn't performing. agreed

Remember that due to the Peavy trade, we have an absolute lack of pitching in our system outside of Hudson. That's why I'm confident they'll take a college pitcher with 1st pick.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 27, 2010 -> 07:53 PM) Ditto. I'd bet a ton it will be, as me you and DirtySox have been on that bandwagon for a while here. I'll say pitcher first, position player (toolsy OF or perhaps a stud SS that happened to drop who they like) with our next pick. And of course, they'll wait until the middle rounds to take difficult signability players. No matter what our philosophy is with regards to athleticism or hard throwers, the one thing that has stayed consistent in our unwillingness to go way over slot.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 27, 2010 -> 08:50 PM) The wind is also blowing basically straight in, looked slightly left to right field, but the flags were pretty taut Ted Lilly has magically had that happen so often in his Cubs career. I'd love to see a breakdown on his percentage of home starts with wind blowing in/out.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 27, 2010 -> 08:36 PM) If this is so controversial, you've given the media something to harp about. Has anybody written that Oz needs to replace big Bobby with Thornton? Mariotti would have loved covering the Sox this year with columns. There's been fodder to fire the closer and the manager. I have stated I wouldn't be upset if they want to Thornton but I still have faith in Jenks. Most of you want Bobby out. If tons of fans feel this way, it should be a full blown controversy on the talk show circuit. Greg, to be honest, no one in Chicago gives a s*** about the Sox right now. Between the Blackhawks and LeBron, those are the two main stories. Heck, Ozzie's kid ripping on Peavy got absolutely no press.

QUOTE (DirtySox @ May 27, 2010 -> 07:28 PM) I've been hearing a lot of negatives regarding his pitch recognition as well, and how it's far away from what it should be at this point. I don't think it's in any way realistic the Sox consider him with the 13th pick. They're not, don't worry. I'll be stunned if they don't take a college pitcher with their first pick.

No Ethier and Ramirez in Dodgers lineup = extremely weak offense. And you wonder why mediocre pitchers in the NL put up good numbers. The more I watch Padres games, the more I'm convinced that Javy Vazquez would have been a potential HOF candidate if he pitched there his entire career.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 27, 2010 -> 07:23 PM) Not of late. Have caught parts of some games. I've never heard of a closer losing his job until he blows 2-3 saves in a row and the manager mercifully has to get him out of there to stop the booing, etc. Jenks was booed off the field when "trying" to close out the game against Toronto a few weeks ago.

Wow, the time to make a change with the manager is after this season, unless things turn around. That's pretty damaging comments posted by Gonzales.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 27, 2010 -> 07:10 PM) The pre-game for the Dodgers broadcast keeps dwelling on how much Jon Ely hates the Cubs. It's pretty funny. It's great, because it's very, very true.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 27, 2010 -> 07:04 PM) He still ain't no Franklin Gutierrez. Outside of prime Andruw Jones and a couple years from Torri Hunter in the early 2000's, ain't no OF the caliber of Franklin. But I agree that Sweeney would be a welcome addition in LF right now. That Swisher trade makes me sicker everyday. No kidding, especially with Gio becoming a strong starting pitcher.

I still don't believe that people watched this show for the character aspect of it. The mystery was always the intriguing part. For example, when the Others kidnapped Walt, people were asking why they kidnapped him with regards to why is he so special. I'm more accepting of the finale now than I was immediately after watching it, but I can't help but think of all the time that seems to have been wasted on meaningless events on this show. They should have just shown Penny and Juliet walking around in tank tops, and I would have been fine with that.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 27, 2010 -> 03:29 PM) Wade is an ass Fixed for accuracy. His image in the media/public is much better than his image behind the scenes.

Some local Illinois high school players are having very good seasons. Adam Rosales is hitting well for the A's, well all know how Ely is doing, and Gregorson is a fantastic reliever for the Padres.

S. Strasburg to make his debut against the Pirates on the Nationals next home stand.

Doesn't Putz get a substantial incentive if he leads the team in saves?

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 26, 2010 -> 11:37 PM) Good point, but when you are making that kind of money and failing it's tough to not take shots at them. For instance, some of us thought last year that the acquisition of Rios might put us over the hump to win the division and then we allegedly with Peavy returning in September had a rotation made for the postseason. The fact Rios was absolutely miserable at the plate and the fact we did not come close to winning the division made him an easy target. Now this year, Peavy is supposed to be our big time ace and he's been pretty bad. I think this year's team is so much worse on paper than last year's that Peavy shouldn't be roasted as much as Rios last year. Rios was supposed to be our big big acquisition that was going to help us squeak out a division title and set us up for October. Those of you who stuck with Rios deserve credit because a fresh start in April is apparently what he needed. What is it that Peavy needs? The all star break to regroup? He needs a league where he can make bad pitches and not get punished as much as he has. There's no breathing room in the AL, and I thought it was only fitting that a #9 hitter bombed one off of him.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ May 26, 2010 -> 11:43 PM) If Bobby is as bad as many of you say, why in the hell would anybody trade for him? I guess many of you would take anything for him to get rid of him. Some teams might think there's a change of scenery needed, or hell, maybe they feel their pitching coach can fix him. I'd give him up for nothing in return if it meant saving the 5 million or so he's owed the rest of the way.

QUOTE (BearSox @ May 26, 2010 -> 11:28 PM) I wish I had that optimism but when you have to put out lineups on a daily basis with Pierzynski as your no. 2 hitter and Kotsay batting 5th, there isn't room for much hope. Either way, I firmly believe this team needs to get either Prince or AG this trade season or in the offseason if we want any chance at competing soon and not wasting this pitching staff (which has vastly underperformed so far, but I still have a lot of faith in this rotation). More than ever, count me out of being interested in someone like Prince or Gonzalez. The only way acquiring one of those guys ever made sense was if you had people like Quentin and Beckham filling some of the other holes. With both of them looking lost, you might need even more money to replace our holes in the future.
-
I think trading Jenks to the Reds makes a ton of sense. Masset is their set-up man, and he's been brutal!
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 26, 2010 -> 11:10 PM) Try out Putz. He saves 5 in a row and that dramatically improves what you can trade him for in July. Fair enough, I see that point also.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 26, 2010 -> 11:09 PM) I think they're, probably correctly, being careful with both his arm and his brain for this season. If he was a 20 year old kid who was obviously the future of your pitching rotation, I would agree. However, you don't know what Santos is going to give to you, so you might as well capitalize on it now. He's done a good job of maintaining his velocity so far this season.
-
Give Santos the shot. Keep Thornton as the 8th inning guy.

Is it true that Oney ripped on Peavy on his twitter account?
