  1. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ May 25, 2010 -> 01:26 AM) Just like that it's a 5-2 ballgame. Danks hasn't looked sharp the last 2 innings. Indians with tying run aboard.
  2. QUOTE (soxfan22 @ May 25, 2010 -> 12:41 AM) Good, its nice to actually see an offense start to show up the past few games, well minus the last one We actually didn't do that badly vs Johnson, as we made good contact. Just couldn't get the big hit early, and once it became a blowout, everyone was in getaway mode.
  3. How deep was Teahen's double? I love seeing the early offense, Pierre's doing a great job lately.

    LOST!!!!

So was that casting sheet that was floating around on deadspin a month ago correct? I remember stuff about skeletons, ladders, and a waterfall being on the supply list.
  5. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ May 24, 2010 -> 11:35 PM) Hmm, I must be mistaken, do you remember who they were playing? That was Seattle in the A. Rios walkoff game.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 24, 2010 -> 11:21 PM) The ump has discretion over whether to award home plate in either case. Everyone is awarded 2 bases if it bounces over the fence. I've never seen it called otherwise. When it's fan inteference, that's a whole different story.
  7. Keith Law has us taking Asher Wojciechowski, RHP, The Citad Says Sox are looking for college pitchers who won't demand huge money. I asked someone about Austin Wilson today, and said there's no way we're drafting another outfielder in the first round.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 24, 2010 -> 08:36 PM) Oh, and an elite hitter with 1/2 of his contract paid for. But he was soft!
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 24, 2010 -> 09:21 PM) Agreed 1000%. We got the best years out of Aaron, and got rid of him before he got expensive. We also got an elite hitter for him. I don't see the problem with anything in how Rowand's career arc proceeded with the Sox. Exactly, a lot of times we complain that KW doesn't sell high on players, but he definitely sold high on Rowand. Same goes with McCarthy...two guys that I know the organization had some concerns about their ability.
  10. QUOTE (chw42 @ May 24, 2010 -> 09:13 PM) From 2003 to 2005, Rowand posted a combined UZR of +36.6 in 390 games and 2889.2 innings. That's a UZR/150 of 17.1, which is definitely elite. I don't think his defense was overrated when he was with the Sox at all... He struggled mightily the last few months of that season offensively and defensively. He misjudged numerous important fly balls, seemingly whenever Jenks was on the mound.
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 24, 2010 -> 08:28 PM) He won't be fired, cause he's Ozzie, but this road trip will say a lot about whether our team is mediocre or simply rotten. It's so scary people think this way. No one person should ever be more important than the success of the organization.
  12. QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 24, 2010 -> 07:04 PM) That's pretty ridiculous. He was incredible covering ground in CF that year and put up league average slash stats for his position all while making $2M, there's a ton of value in what Rowand gave the Sox in '05. And he totally hit the wall down the stretch of the season, was a year away from free agency, and the organization thought that he wasn't going to improve for various reasons. His defense was so overrated, IMO. Anderson and Rios make him look like Jermaine Dye out there.
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 24, 2010 -> 07:52 PM) Four at Tampa Bay might really be the start of the firesale and/or coaching staff demotions. I don't know how anybody would figure we'd win more than one of those four. One win max. You are right. Sox need to sweep this series somehow heading into 0-for-4 land or 1-for-3 land. We actually play Tampa pretty tough.
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 24, 2010 -> 06:55 PM) I'm talking about the fans undervaluing their own. Lot of bashing of Rowand and people who thought we could do better in cf even though it was a wasteland until this year's version of Rios. Lot of people bagged on Thome even though he'd be way better than this year's piece of s*** DH by committee and lousy lineup. Just cause someone is better than the replacements we brought in doesn't mean that person was actually good. Rowand was not a good baseball player in 2005 with the White Sox. My new boss at work stinks, but it doesn't mean my old boss that got fired should be held in higher regard.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 24, 2010 -> 07:47 PM) He's still been great in terms of percentage of games saved. Since when do big market teams care about salary? And you think Sox fans don't undervalue their own? They wanted to run a highly effective Pods out of town for getting picked off a few times. They undervalued guys like Rowand and Uribe and Garland and Crede and Thome and Dye. Need I list more guys give lack of respect? Undervalued Dye? Same guy who can't get a job? GMs don't care about save percentage if they see how much someone is struggling. Our own KW didn't care about save percentage when Shingo was struggling in 2005.
  16. We're facing a sinker ball pitcher, which means very few home runs....which means our offense will likely struggle. I agree though, a series win is a must. We're getting close to KW's June timeline.
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 24, 2010 -> 06:03 PM) And I still think that Beckham ends up being very good. We all do
  18. From what I've seen, Castro's had more fluke hits this year than the entire Sox team combined. He does have excellent speed and great hand-eye coordination. I actually think Colvin is a good player, but he'll never be in the Cubs plans.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 24, 2010 -> 07:26 PM) I get the feeling when Jenks goes there will be some nasty stories from both sides. Just a hunch. Let's hope not, as it really is a remarkable recovery from where he was prior to 2005.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 24, 2010 -> 05:34 PM) Hasn't he been burned repeatedly on that pitch this season? Yes, cause he hasn't maintained steady velocity with it due to messing around with all of his other pitches. All he needs to be successful is a 97 mph high fastball and a curveball. However, he's played around with the change-up so much, and that's why you see his velocity jumping from 92-96 on any given day. He also needs to lose that cutter, as that's what he throws to lefties a lot and isn't successful.
  21. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ May 24, 2010 -> 06:21 PM) Still, I bet Fatboy will dominate in the NL... especially if he goes to a contending team with good leadership like the Phillies. Totally agree, as well as maybe a new pitching coach that will stress to him to unleash the 4 seam high fastball again.
  22. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 24, 2010 -> 06:20 PM) Which overhyped prospect would you like in return? Hard to argue the success of Castro and Colvin so far this year though. Never would have thought they'd be more successful than Quentin and Beckham.

    LOST!!!!

I thought for sure they were setting Jack up to be the new smoke monster, as he was laid out on the same boulder that Jacob's brother was after he became smokey.
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 24, 2010 -> 04:50 PM) Why is Jenks such a low value closer aside from Soxtalk people undervaluing their own again? HA! Soxtalk undervalues their own? That might be the funniest thing I've heard in a long time. Jenks has such low value because he's getting to be extremely expensive, has huge concerns about the health of his elbow due to not throwing curveballs again, and just isn't very effective.
