Great swing, he freaking crushed that. These conditions are a joke. -

These are nightmare conditions for the Sox hitters with Slowey on the mound. We'll just hit fly balls all day. -

Question for other observers: why does Quentin hit so many weak pop ups to the right side? This used to be the Graffanino special. -

Seems like the ball absolutely dies if hit in the air here. -

A few comments: - I hate AJP batting 2nd, as you don't want a notorious first pitch hitter batting after Pierre if he reaches base - Rios should be the #3 hitter ASAP Also, did anyone hear Harry Teinowitz say that a trusted source told him that KW is furious with Ozzie, more than ever? -
Would it be better for the organization to get swept by the twins?

QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 11, 2010 -> 09:29 PM) I've counted 3 games alone he has cost us. He won us a game in Toronto having Kotsay ph in the 10th and then not bunting with Teahen. -

Our record is what it is. Just as there were games we should have won, the Seattle series was a perfect example of games we could have easily lost. We're not as bad as we've played, but it's going to take a lot of "ifs" for this offense to get going. There's far too many guys showing minimal signs of breaking out of it. -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 11, 2010 -> 09:50 PM) The only time I deem it "better" to lose is when you're hopelessly out of it and you can improve draft position. I was on that train in 2007. Agreed, I think we'd all agree that if we're 10 out come mid-August, losing would be better off (except Greg maybe) -

Everytime I think I want the Sox to lose to better the organization, I remember that no one has been held responsible in a long time for the struggles on the field (ie: Greg Walker). Also, as others have accurately stated, the more this team loses now, the more we will lose in attendance and the result will be loser payroll in upcoming seasons. I root more for guys like Kotsay and Vizquel to perform poorly (if we're going to lose, of course) in order to provide more chances for Nix, etc. As much as I might state that I don't mind if we lose, I know that every game we win, my optimism for the next game and a possible win streak rises. -
QUOTE (jphat007 @ May 11, 2010 -> 07:37 PM) We're f***ed. There is the discussion on the payroll. Not nearly as bad as it seemed two weeks ago, when there were severe doubts about Peavy.

From someone that I trust, Jenks is not throwing the curve anymore because of the stress it puts on his elbow. He doesn't want to get injured prior to his free agency contract. Sadly, he's losing money by the day not being able to throw his best pitch.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ May 11, 2010 -> 04:24 PM) So does this happen to other major league teams that are supposedly good to have many hitter slump at the same time? Or does this happen only in Chicago? They got the same thing happening on the other side of town and they are suppose to have a really good hitting coach. Um, they have two hitters struggling (just so happen to be their two main guys, one of which has a bum shoulder). The rest of their offense is hitting above .300.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 11, 2010 -> 01:31 PM) Kotsay is in the starting lineup fairly often for 1 reason...he's an adequate backup defensively for a guy who we legitimately need to give some extra time off to...the Major league home run leader. If Konerko gets extra days off, so that he avoids things like stiff necks...I can't complain, even if the guy we're replacing him with is a career .250 hitter with little power. Things like that happen. Vizquel...well, everyone knew he was going to play too much and hit too high in the order. But again...there's a reason why we keep seeing him...because Beckham has been Beckrap and Alexei has been just as bad. I can't find myself getting too worked up over the guy hitting .100 in the 2 hole...because he's replacing a guy hitting .143 in his last 76 plate appearances in that very spot. If Quentin, Alexei, AJ, Beckham, and Pierre were at least being average hitters right now, we might well be only a couple games behind the Twins, and then we could legitimately be caring about why Kotsay is getting so many at bats, or why Vizquel is replacing a guy hitting so much better than him so often. But with 5 gaping holes in our lineup...I can't get worked up about the backups, because crappy backups aren't the problem when the regulars are just as bad. I agree...it was a team that needed a lot of "Ifs" to come true in order to really compete with a very strong Twins team. Sometimes, it's just not your year. Now, it's up to KW and Ozzie to do whatever they can to make positives come from this season, which includes finding your closer of the future, getting Beckham back on track, seeing what you have in Quentin, and possibly getting a look at guys like Flowers, Hudson, etc.

So Minka Kelly doesn't make it, but Stephanie Pratt and Anna Faris do?

Carlos Boozer is playing the worst half of basketball you could imagine.
-
QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ May 11, 2010 -> 04:12 AM) Carlos Boozer is one of the worst big men I have ever seen at defending the pick and roll. On the Lakers last possession of the 1st quarter, he didn't hedge, didn't come over to help after Korver got beat and really didn't even stay with Gasol. Kind of just stood in the lane and watched. And the end result is an uncontested dunk for Shannon Brown. Pathetic. And simply refuses to pass the ball.

Spiegel was saying that someone told him from the Sox that Thornton doesn't want to close. Then, Bill Melton said later in the day that he knows for a fact Thornton wants to close.
-
If it's a close game in the 8th or 9th against the Twins, and Mauer/Morneau are coming up, Thornton should be brought into the game.
-
Lilly with a no-hitter thru 5 innings. Come on Marlins!

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 10, 2010 -> 08:01 PM) Didn't we complete a triple play in that game too??? I remember that game being ESPN Sunday Night Baseball. Yep, it was the day after I got engaged. I was happy that my engagement didn't curse the franchise for good!

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 10, 2010 -> 09:11 PM) $1M becomes a very big deal when your attendance is tanking. Yep, it allows us to sign David Eckstein next offseason.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 10, 2010 -> 09:07 PM) I could possibly see that happening and, if we're out of it, I'm not going to raise a stink about it. And if KW pays his remaining salary for the rest of the season, we can get a better prospect in return.
-
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 5, 2010 -> 01:39 PM) I would doubt that was his first time, but you never know. They basically said in the piece it wasn't his first time.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 10, 2010 -> 08:45 PM) Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the pitch that went 3 miles yesterday was a fastball down the middle. Just like every other fastball he's thrown to lefties the last two years (no, I don't mean literally)
