  1. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 28, 2007 -> 08:33 PM) I know Jeff Suppan isn't being paid by the Brewers to be their Godsent ace, but can some of those cliches that you always here about veterans like him actually pay off tonight? Can Suppan "know how to win" tonight, please? Asking for a sweep is probably unreasonable, but can't Milwaukee take two of three? Man -- Wrigley is going to be rocking tonight. I have no hope for the Brewers this series....the Cubs have such a pitching advantage this week against them. It's Cardinals or bust, and of course, Oswalt returns to face them, and he'll miss the Cubs.
  2. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Aug 28, 2007 -> 03:10 AM) Not that I'm disputing Rally Crede here, but people tend to forget that the Sox lost their next 2 after that, and the Indians won 4 in a row. The most underrated moment in that White Sox season happened in Kansas City when Grady Sizemore dropped a flyball...the Indians, including that game, lost 6 of the last 7 and took themselves out of the division race. Remember how the day after the Crede homer, Comcast was messed up for like 4 innings? Not a good day for them after one of biggest wins in Sox history.
  3. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 28, 2007 -> 03:18 AM) Carl hit the triple in the 5th inning with the game tied 1-1, the Sox went on to win that game 8-2 and outscore their opponents 21-9 from that point forward. I was also referring to dominating in the postseason, as well.
  4. The most underrated play was a triple Carl Everett had against the Tigers during the last week of the season. We had lost two games in a row to them, were hitting terrible, and he had a huge 2-out, 2 RBI triple that opened the flood gates for the rest of the season. We must have outscored the opposition by a ton from that point forward.
  5. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 28, 2007 -> 01:40 AM) I will go to my grave personally thinkin the Rally Crede shot eclipsed all of those. Yes, it was the regular season...but by my line of thinking...the White Sox do not make the playoffs in 2005 without that shift of momentum. On the way home from work, I was thinking of where I'd put that. I was going to say 2nd, with Pods walkoff homer 3rd. Like you mention, you might not make the playoffs without Crede.
  6. These numbers being thrown around for Hunter are scary. I'm definitely getting into DA's corner that KW will say we made an effort, but the number was too high. We'll probably sign Patterson for 3 yrs, 15 million.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 28, 2007 -> 12:27 AM) Apparently in my opinion no longer holds weight here. I prefer my women to look like women, not 12 year old boys. That is all. I got your back on this one. I've never been a fan of surfboards.
  8. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Aug 28, 2007 -> 12:05 AM) You shouldn't be upset at all. That was a move thats been brewing for quite a while. Shaffer and Williams have never been totally on the same page. Williams wants prospects with potentially higher ceilings, Shaffer wanted safer picks, especially in part because he knew Williams had a propensity to trade them. Shaffer was not a scapegoat for this season. The results this season are not even a small part of why he got let go and there will be more changes behind the scenes. You and many others on this board should be glad they made that change. To quote the old Cream song "I'm So Glad". Trust me, the scouting has pissed me off for a long time now. I'm thrilled he's gone....it's just that it's scary that no one else within the organization (a coach like Walker) was let go to try and shake things up. That shows me that JR, KW, and Ozzie are putting all the blame on themselves or the players. If that's the case, then there better be some massive personnel changes on the roster.
  9. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 11:58 PM) In terms of what it meant for the Series, the Konerko HR was more important than Pods HR. I loved the article by Scoop Jackson in which as soon as the ball landed in the seats, he told every reporter in his area that the series is over.
  10. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 11:50 PM) Uh, Konerko's slam is greater than 2 and 3, for sure. By far, most important homer in Sox history.
  11. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 11:05 PM) The part about Walker ... you don't think it's his fault the offense is so bad yet you think it's insane he still has a job. So it's not his fault but he should be fired? It was like what you mentioned earlier....maybe fresh blood was what some of these players needed. If these players, like Uribe, are not paying attention to the coaches, then either you have to find a coach they'll listen to, or get rid of them. I was very upset this year that we basically used Duane Shaffer as the scapegoat, and did nothing to even try to spark this team.
  12. QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 10:49 PM) As for your second comment. No, I wont agree to that at all. Passing the buck is bulls***. Own up to your crap or hit the road. I find it funny that you comment about not wanting "finger pointing" yet all most of this board does is "finger point" at the coaches, the manager, and the gm. A tad bit hypocritical, IMO. Yeah, but we're also not supposed to be professional athletes/executives. I thought my post you responded to was meant to say that the last thing we want to see happen is players/coaches on the team starting to blame others. This was a total organizational failure this year.
  13. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 07:41 PM) NorthSide, you've correctly identified one of the biggest problems. Not a bad guy by any means and can really pick it. But he's been told and helped and coached. And it's not happening for him. You think he's gone this offseason? I'm of the opinion that he won't be back.
  14. QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 07:25 PM) Clearly AJ's admission of fault is secret code for "Walker doesn't know how to prepare us". "Probably my fault", in my book, doesn't equate to AJ taking the blame for this. Rather, it seems like he wants to just doesn't want it to become a big deal in the press. This isn't the first time that we've heard of certain scouting issues not being as accurate as they should be from some of the coaches. I don't think Walker is to blame for the offense struggling this year, but I also think it's insane that he still has a job. I think one thing we'll all agree on is that we don't want to see this turn into a finger-pointing situation where people on the team start to blame other people for the team struggles.
  15. Fields seems to be our best power hitter late in games already. That's at least 4 homers hit in the 7th inning or later that were relatively important.
  16. How many people were there today? I know I had tickets to the original game, but couldn't go due to work. It's too bad...seems like a fun game to go to.
  17. AJ's comment makes me feel like maybe the players feel that Walker doesn't do a good job preparing them for pitchers with scouting reports, etc.
  18. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 07:08 PM) So we want to draft a 3B? i would prefer a pitcher than can contribute in 1-2 years, or a middle infielder. Alvarez is the best player in the draft, and it's not even close.
  19. It has the potential to be the worst year....still some things left to be determined.
  20. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 06:14 AM) I couldn't believe my eyes with that Hinske shift or the Cuban Death March v. Boston. I have been very disappointed with Ozzie this year, but he is the least of them all. I will say this, though: if it ever becomes clear that Ozzie has been tuned out, he should be fired immediately, or the players should be (and you know what I mean: meaning: not literally). Some of me thinks that Ozzie simply needs a better team and he isn't trying so hard either. Some of me believes that this team has tuned him out, though a few sources say nonono! to that. Most of me believes that the problems are 95% roster construction, poor scouting and awful coaching. Assuming this team is upgraded next year, we'll see if that's true or not. Good job with this post.
  21. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 04:26 AM) Our inability to scout, draft and develop is killing this organization; our inability to play at a Major League Level with Major League Players is killing this team; our owner and general manager are killing me. I just don't know how you still are 100 pct behind Ozzie. I know you place the blame on KW for the lack of talent, which is fine. But the seemingly lack of motivation Ozzie is supplying this team is mind-blowing. Ever since the reports started about problems in the clubhouse a few months ago, things have gone from bad to horrible. Jerry Manuel was always criticized for his supposed lack of motivation, and he never, ever saw a stretch as bad as this. And for the record, I thought Manuel deserved to be fired when he was, as it was clear his players were turning him out. I'm very concerned that's happening with Ozzie.
  22. Ozzie embarassed himself by saying that even though we got swept this wknd, we did sweep them "when it counted" in 2005. It's that type of living in the past attitude which is killing this organization.

  24. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 02:34 AM) I wouldn't call Vazquez dominating. He had 10 ks today also 3 gopher balls. He's having a decent year, but he's been known to fall apart. If he's so great, how come he's not even .500 in his career? If you tell me its because he was on bad teams, how come he was below .500 last year on a team that won 90 games? I was thinking of how typical Vazquez's game was, according to you. He looks great, but the results just aren't there too often.
