What a nightmare of a day.

QUOTE(frankie5angels @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 11:21 PM) Maybe Jose will just quit, after being embarassed start after start. This better be his last start for a while.
-
QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 11:21 PM) I have no evidence that they do. They do, it's pretty common knowledge.
-
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 11:20 PM) Jose absolutely blows ass. He's on pace to have one of the worst seasons in Sox history for a full-time starting pitcher.
-
Just DL him for the season. What a pathetic day for the White Sox.
-
QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 08:38 PM) God forbid a player be sentimental about a team he not only worked for, but loved. :rolleyes. I always thought it was awesome that he was at Game 2 of the WS going nuts at the Cell.
-
Yep, the Dye situation isn't even close to being the biggest issue that just impacted the Sox. We were unable to even get rid of half of Jose's remaining contract. I hope it was worth it leaving him in to get destroyed late in games over the last month. I predict he gives up at least 7 runs tonight if he lasts 5 innings.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 08:22 PM) ETA: One thing I do definitely blame KW for and agree with you on is the LF/CF situation this year. That was, far and away, his biggest screw-up. and the bullpen (also known as the two spots where everyone knew KW had to upgrade). Not only that, but the prospects for next season look even worse than this year. It's conceivable that the only way we can compete next year is if we spend a fortune in the FA market.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 08:21 PM) Yes, they werent offered up for a player that was basically a league MVP last season, and a WS MVP the season before that. KW couldnt get value so he didnt. In fact signing Dye to an extension would be a move that is even better value, and helps the ballclub. Im glad we didnt give away Dye for nothing. Yes, but if they re-sign Dye, then they're going to have to clear some payroll. That means Garland is likely gone, and we still have the $20 million albatross in the rotation. I've been saying for two weeks now we should extend Dye, but I'm not so sure he'll "help" us out with the contract we'd try to get him to sign.

QUOTE(toasty @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 08:16 PM) i dont neccessarily like the return for mack, but we have too friggen many super-sub utility types on this team it's good to get one gone Now Ozzie can use his new toy, Gonzalez, even more. It took Ozzie a year and a half to finally start using Mackowiak the right way, and now he's gone.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 08:14 PM) I'm glad Williams has decided to help our future move in the right direction by acquiring one A, one high A reliever. We're bound to cotend next season with these shrewd moves. He's really done an horrific job. We're no better today than yesterday. Our future hasn't improved one bit. KW should be fired for this season, but it won't happen. This organization is in shambles in terms of personnel.
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 08:12 PM) Wow. I hope that someone sees the irony of people b****ing about the return for Mack and Gooch, yet being angry about not giving up Dye for two pieces of crap. Come on, there's a huge difference between Link and Dubee compared to WMP.
-
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 08:06 PM) f***ing fabulous The amazing thing is that we'll still have KW as GM, Ozzie as manager, and Walker/Cooper back next year in the same roles.
-
Well, I just hope Dye doesn't end up with the Cubs in the next hour.
-
Were people seriously expecting us to get a good prospect for Mackowiak?
-
It's obvious....for the guys they have no intention of bringing back next year, they're just getting their salaries off the books for the rest of the season.
-
QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 07:43 PM) Jon Link is his name. 23 year old A ball reliever.
-
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 07:42 PM) If it's another "project" single A pitcher, then screw you, KW. Of course it will be....I can't believe the faith people have put in KW to actually rebuild this farm system.
-
QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 07:35 PM) well..we know that draft picks are useless to the Sox so I would hope to just get one young player with real good upside like Matt Murton. But, it all depends on the diraction the team is going. If Kenny is really trying to contend next year, they might as well re-sign Dye. Murton's not exactly young.
-
QUOTE(IowaSoxFan @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 07:35 PM) Maybe blockbuster to D-backs with Garland for Quentin and spects? Halfway kidding but it would make sense to both sides with Randy Johnson out for the year. That would be a horrible deal.
-
QUOTE(WCSox @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 07:32 PM) Can't say I like this, given that we won't get much in return. I would've rather KW picked up his option and kept his LH bat and versatility... especially considering what we'll have in the OF next year. He was going to make too much money for a utility player. It's a shame, we never used him right. He should have been given more playing time in the infield. Oh well, at least he didn't have to deal with the embarassment of playing CF this year.
-
QUOTE(Vance Law @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 06:09 PM) I'm sure you will be embarrased by your comments when you realize that Texeira has a year and 2 months on his contract (and maybe a club option, can't remember) and is a lot younger than Dye and is not hitting just .230. Dye, on the other hand, has 2 months left, is going on 34 and is hitting about .230. I realize that....and I wasn't comparing Dye to Tex. Rather, Garland is to Tex as Linebrink is to Dye.
-
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 05:29 PM) ESPN radio said that the deal is pretty much done... fwiw. Completed or off the table?
-
QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 05:27 PM) I just have to laugh. The Yankees should be sellers, not buyers. They're victims of their history, held hostage by the delusion that they should win it every year. They're 4 games back in the WC standings, and they've been playing great lately. They have just as good of a chance as anyone to win the WS this year.
-
QUOTE(vandy125 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 05:24 PM) And the Brewers team salary is at... I should have added some more to my thoughts there. The Brewers are not a team that has spent themselves into a corner. 9/10 teams that are competitive are in the upper brackets of spending and have painted themselves into a corner where they cannot afford to lose a chance at some prospect turning out, and are therefore holding on to any and all prospects that they have. I think it's the opposite, and teams like the Mets/Dodgers/Red Sox can afford to trade prospects because they know that if they have holes to fill, they can go out and buy players.
