All I can say is KW better hope he gets a hell of a package for Buehrle.
-
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 09:58 PM) Yeah, he got to it quickly, then stood on his back foot for 3 seconds waiting to throw the ball in. It's a double if Ford's cleat never came off. After watching Dye out there for so long, it's just nice to see someone cut it off before it hits the fence, which is all that matters on that play. And Buehrle will be traded within the next 10 days.....that's too bad.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 09:52 PM) I hope your not talking about Terrero. Ford's shoe fell off and it would have been a double otherwise. Did you see how slow Terrero's turn was to get the ball back in? Are you serious? He did a great job of cutting that ball off.

Isn't it nice to see an actual fielder ou there, and not a piano?

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 09:49 PM) Punto is making some great picks at 3rd. Of course, it's because he's playing the ball poorly and into some bad hops, but still he's picking it. Garland is a righty, hasn't had nearly the career that Buehrle has, and he'll get us that much more because he's signed 1 extra year? Umm Well, that was the reasoning everyone gave us for why the Rockies got a lot more for Jennings than the Sox did for Garcia.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 09:35 PM) To me its simple. If he is going to be traded. It should be for the creme of the crop top shelf guys. Like a Gomez/or Milledge and Pelfry or a Bucholz package from the Red Cubs or a Kemp package from the Dodgers, or a Saltallamacia package from the Braves. I dont want to see him moved, if its a B prospect and 2 Cs. Take the the picks and allow this to be his fairwell tour. If he is going to sign a deal, then move something else. Gomez is out for a few months. And please, why do people keep saying we should keep the picks? With the way this team drafts, that would be such a waste.

QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 09:28 PM) We can't give Buehrle a NTC cuz it will prevent us from building to the future! Yet we're hoping Floyd and Masset can be big additions to the team with their mediocre fastballs and awful control.
-
QUOTE(briguy27 @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 08:49 PM) Owens has no clue at the plate. It's OK though, because Cy Bonser is on the mound. Our idiotic manager wants him up though because he has "lead off experience".

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 08:28 PM) And trademark Buehrle pitching today. This makes me sad. In your non expert, not informative position, do you think he's traded before his next start?
-
AJP's really been unproductive at the plate recently. I can't remember the last time he had an RBI. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 08:19 PM) He is really pissed about the whole Buehrle situation. He thinks the Sox are treating Buehrle like dirt. The problem is everything is speculation until something happens. Yesterday's comments by Buehrle make it seem as if most of what we've heard about the contract situation is actually true....it's now in the Sox's hands about whether or not they'll give the NTC, as Buehrle's camp won't give in (nor should they).

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 08:09 PM) Dye has flulike symptoms. I know, I know....just hoping that it's a cover for right now.

Dye gets pulled just before game time, and not one trade rumor? I'm disappointed in you guys!

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 05:36 PM) I saw him get a lot of hitters behind and in ST Floyd was pitching as hard as 95-96 according to quite a few reputable posters here that were watching the games both on tv and at the spring training parks (now those guns could have been loose). I know I want to see him pitch the rest of the season up here and I'm not stupid enough to write him off after one start, even if it was a bad one. Yeah, I want to see him stay up in the majors. He really has to improve his mound presence though....he looked scared to death out there. Garza's fastball was consistently at 95-96 mph last night though.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 05:26 PM) I'm watching Floyd's start right now....that curve he threw on Morneu's homer was a pretty hard good curve. The only bad part you could say is it was in the middle, but the ball was down. Either way I try not to grade guys based on one outing but I have noticed he now has a fastball that he can get that kind of sinks down below the zone which should help him get a lot of ground balls. I just don't get why he's living on the outside of the plate so far in the game (I've only gotten through a couple innings). It seemed like he must have thrown 70 balls out of the strike zone off the outside corner against lefties. And after watching replays, that pitch he threw to Morneau was horrible. I saw that Ozzie commented that he liked his velocity yesterday....just how bad was it during ST then? He didn't top 92 mph yesterday, and he got very, very few swings and misses.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 04:51 AM) Out of the 10 guys the White Sox have used out of the bullpen this year, 6 have ERA's over 6.00. 8 have ERA's over 5.00. The only 2 below are Bukvich, who is not a major leaguer, and Jenks. I think I read where the Sox starters ERA was second in the AL, probably not after today, but KW just might have assembled the worst bullpen in team history. If Jenks second half is like his second half of 2006 it will be. He's probably the only guy in the bullpen who would make every other major league roster. It baffles me that no one has been fired on this team. I know you'll agree with me that KW is so full of s***. All of his speeches about making changes, and nothing has taken place. Today should be one of the lowest points of this organization in decades. As the 75 year old lady sitting a few rows away from me said, "this is sad how far we've fallen". Amen old lady, amen!

The competition level in the International League is brutal. There's a reason Timo is one of the top hitters in it. And I don't know if this was mentioned anywhere else, but Masset has allowed 51 base runners in his last 17 innings in relief. Besides for two games with the Sox, he might be the worst pitcher I've ever seen stay on the team for 81 games.

The Gio/Gavin duo with a poor showing today.

QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 04:29 AM) Personally, I've had enough of these types of people. They need to get this issue resolved now, because I cannot deal with it anymore. I want the bandwagon people to stay around as long as possible....our payroll's going to have to stay relatively high if we want there to be a chance to get our talent level back to respectable levels in the next few years.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 04:27 AM) Gavin Floyd made a nice attempt at getting everyone sitting in the bleachers a souvenir of his first White Sox start. Its getting to the point where I'm not angry, I'm not breaking things like WHarris. I was sitting in the stands laughing. At least we know there's about a 99% chance Floyd improves his next outing, if he gets one. Did you like his mound presence, especially when he went into the stretch after allowing Morneau's first homer?

Sox interested in Orlando Hudson/Elijah Dukes

If you're trading a starting pitcher for him, it better be Contreras. If Buehrle is dealt, it has to be for prospects. -
QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 04:18 AM) I've gotta watch my words here... I'm gonna love having Mark on the team when we have an 75-85 million dollar payroll and we're right back in 4th place next year. Please ask these 'fans' what they expect the team to look like next year. These people upset me for some reason. I'm sure that I'm just to excepting, but I can look at the reality and see that this team will really bad for the next few years, do these 'fans' just assume next year is gonna be swell? That Mark and Jon will be resigned that Ichiro and Rowand are going to come in and we'll be stylin' in 08? Oh trust me, as much as I want Buehrle back, I understand completely why we'd look to trade him. However, KW has handled these negotiations so poorly, and if we end up trading him in the next 2 weeks, it's going to make some pissed-off fans even angrier.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 04:00 AM) Gavin has a live arm. Why when we have pitchers who throw 93 and up, do we not throw inside. When you go away away away they are going to do what they did today. Extend and jack the ball. You dont have to plunk everyone, but for the love of god, run a 2 seamer on the inside corner and back them up a bit. I wouldn't consider 91 mph fastballs a "live arm". Of course, Garza comes back from their minors and is throwing harder than he did last year.

White Sox vs. Twins, Game 2 of DH, 7/06/07 (L)
fathom replied to santo=dorf's topic in 2007 Season in Review
Who in the world said that Floyd throws 95 mph? His fastball was at 91 mph all night. Between him and Masset, can we just never attend a Winter League game again? -
I would bet that very soon, Buehrle says the 4/56 is off the table, and he'll test free agency. And maybe it's me, but after reading that article twice, it seems like he wasn't kidding. He probably expects to be traded during the ASB.

I'm stunned that Thome, Pods, Erstad, and MacDougal were placed on the DL this year.
