  1. Heavy rumors out there that a former Major League closer passed away yesterday. The name should be released later today.
  2. QUOTE(chisox2334 @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 03:46 PM) well kenny made deicison he will be making trades and is done with 2007 team per the score Who reported this?
  3. Considering how awful our draft picks have been, I'd rather take the upper-echelon prospects.
  4. QUOTE(gosox41 @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 02:26 AM) Exactly. Is it Ozzie's fault that when Erstand and Pods go down we get Terrero and Owens. Is it Ozzie's fault none of the relievers can get anyone out? Is he misuing them or are they just not very good. I'll go with not very good. Bob I am puzzled as to why Masset is still on the roster.
  5. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 01:31 AM) Yeah pretty much and the $5M he's due next season would be nothing but a burden. And KW/Ozzie's inability to handle losing is what makes me worried that they're going to try and upgrade this year's team.
  6. It won't be Sweeney that's called up....watch J. Jones be our starting RF on Monday.
  7. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines Some very strong comments by Pods. It's a good thing Ozzie likes him.
  8. Might we be seeing Anderson getting called up for Dye? He didn't start in either game of the double header today.
  9. QUOTE(29thandPoplar @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 11:45 PM) I read what was said on that site after reading the post here. It quoted Ken Rosenthal. Do you believe any of what he says? That site is just a collection of media rumors anyways. Rosenthal is the guy who said he talked to Phillies sources who said the Sox could've gotten more for Garcia. Did you believe that? Well that's good, so you're not pissed off about that then. I did not see Konerko say that, can you help a fellow fan out? 100% correct. It was on Comcast SportsNite I believe on Thursday night.
  10. QUOTE(29thandPoplar @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 11:40 PM) Interesting. Where and when did he say that? Ah crap, I'm sorry. It was Konerko that said that.
  11. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 10:29 PM) Paulie said he can't, so KW went back to his room. I hope the Jacques Jones to the Sox talk is garbage. I'm sick of the Sox picking up guys who can't play on horrible teams. You know what absolutely pissed me off? I heard PK say before this Sox series that this very well could be the last series that really matters for this team. Well, if that's the case, then why in the hell are you telling KW that this team can still make a run?
  12. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 11:35 PM) What fathom is saying is, he knows specifically that those guys have been FOLLOWING the Sox. Not scouting here and there, but FOLLOWING. You know that those guys you mentioned are there SPECIFICALLY? (I'm just asking. Not berating. I clear that up only because I don't want to give a bad impression with the caps. They're just EMPHASIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Chicagosports.com was reporting the three teams that I mentioned.
  13. QUOTE(29thandPoplar @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 11:32 PM) There are all sorts of scouts following the White Sox. Add in Seattle, St. Louis, and Milwaukee. Lots of teams, in addition to those listed above and these there are prob. more. I don't know who the Brewers would be targeting. They have better players at every position. Maybe they're interested in Thornton?
  14. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 11:31 PM) Dodgers - Dye, Mets - Buehrle, Red Sox - Buehrle... those are the players I have to believe that those teams have been scouting. Billingsley/Either; Milledge/Pelfrey; Ellsbury/Bowden These are the types of players we need to be targeting.
  15. Dodgers, Mets, and Red Sox scouts have been following the Sox.
  16. QUOTE(SEALgep @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 10:53 PM) And again I'll repeat my stance, when you're direct report to position is in question, it leaves for further scepticism on the FA on signing with a certain team. Money is the first determinent, but past FA such as Dye shows that it isn't always the only part of the decision process. Dye stayed with the Sox because at the time, they had offered him the most money. However, the story started after he had agreed to sign with the Sox, because other teams offered him more money. He stuck to his word to sign with the Sox though. Playing for Ozzie had nothing to do with it, especially since Dye went out of his way last year to say how much he wants to play for the Rangers.
  17. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 09:03 PM) Fathom, don't praise green. His post is misleading in almost every sense. I didn't even read the points he made....I just saw the very top, and was happy that at least someone doesn't think that every decision about personnel is 100 pct KW's doing.
  18. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 09:01 PM) If this organization is this bad because KW is taking Ozzie's advice, then KW is dumber than I thought and they both should have been fired by now. That might be the only way either of them is replaced. I really don't want this to happen, and I hope these two can start the rebuilding process immediately.
  19. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 08:51 PM) 5 tool shortstop for Vanderbilt. Great speed and insane power are his two best qualities. I thought he was a 3b
  20. QUOTE(GreenSox @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 08:57 PM) I agree that no one could win with this roster (although Ozzie is doing about as bad a job with it as is possible). I think you significantly underestimate the influence that Ozzie has on personnel. Who wanted Lee, Ordonez and Frank off this team? That would be Ozzie and his ego. Who wants the free swingers and hackers on the team? Ozzie Who wanted Erstad ahead of the far superior Podsednik? Ozzie because Ozzie loves guys who can hit grounders to either side of the infield, and then run out their copius outs hard. Who wanted Anderson and Sweeney off this team quickly, but had no problem with Owens and his zero walks (until his last game) and zero RBIs for a month? Ozzie. Who actually uses .200 hitters with no power as pinch hitters and, incredibly, as DH? Ozzie. Now this team needed retooling after 03. Thank GOODNESS we won before Guillen got Kenny to completely change this team to, well, what we have this year. Well said...it baffles my mind when people think a manager has no say about who's on the roster. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 08:57 PM) I get so sick of that argument. Out of the starters, only Garland had a career year. Contreras? He had started less than 40 games before 2005. So it's not like he had 3 or 4 mediocre years then blew up in 2005. The 'pen? Yeah, Cotts and Pollite both had career years. And you can throw Hermanson in there as well, atleast until his back fell off. But let's not forget how bad guys like Shingo/Marte/Vizcaino were. And you also fail to mention how brilliantly Ozzie handled Bobby Jenks that year. Again, no manager could win with this old, slow, unathletic group. Guys are breaking down left and right. Minor leaguers, outside of Fields, that have produced nothing. Established, proven guys sucking a fat one all year. Ozzie is the least of this team's problems. Poor Luis...one bad game against the Indians, and he's lumped in with someone who went crazy and someone who was released a few months into the season.
  21. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 08:51 PM) Which is why KW deserves so much more blame than Osvaldo. That's the problem.....KW is Ozzie's boy, and vice versa. If KW is trying to say this isn't Ozzie's fault, then it's the player's fault....which should mean it's KW's fault this year. However, we'll keep firing/releasing people who aren't directly involved with this s***.
  22. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 08:54 PM) I take issue with the 90-win-Ozzie-villain storyline, though. That bullpen was hideous and his situation in CF was bad, too. The offense DIED in the second half as well. That we won 90 games is a testament to something. I'm just not sure what. We won 90 games in spite of a poorly constructed roster and terrible bullpen. Ozzie should have made KW go get another CF then, as playing Mackowiak was an insult to this team. That was an error by both Ozzie and KW.
  23. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 08:51 PM) And what does Ozzie have to do with that? You pretty much just backed up our argument. I was talking about the fans turning on him. I was just thinking of how Dusty was so beloved by the Cubs after his first year with the Cubs. A few terrible seasons later, they were demanding he be gone. I don't want to see this happen with Ozzie (as much as you don't believe), as I'd rather see this team win games with him at the helm than not win games.
  24. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 08:50 PM) No, but people love Ozzie. People associate Ozzie with the White Sox. Like Podsednik, which is half the reason he was brought back (the other half was, s***! All the other Leadoff hitters are expensive!!). My issues are with KW, Rick Hahn and our scouts. Our coaches, too. I take SMALL issue with Ozzie here and there, but he is NOT the problem. Let's just see how much they love him if this team goes on to lose 100 games. Not many 100 million dollar payroll teams can possibly lose 100 games.
  25. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 08:43 PM) If Ozzie gets extended now, the reason to do it is, It'll help the average fan and attendance. It's a PR move, if he gets it now. There's no reason to have him fired, though. OH WAIT I FORGOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!11 /green No offense, but Ozzie means nothing for PR purposes. Winning is the only PR that really matters with that team. After that, it's the Buehrle situation. The Sox could fire Ozzie and bring in some grandma off the street, and if the Sox have a winning season, people will show up. I don't think too many people show up to see Ozzie in the dugout.
