  1. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Sep 27, 2006 -> 07:36 PM) Thank you for showing the horrible contract. Why exactly does this team need more home runs? I rather have a guy who gets on base much allowing him to score more runs on other player's home runs. The Sox are definitely trying to upgrade their speed this offseason, and the only realistic positions can be at LF, SS, and CF. What other SS are there that we can go after who will provide speed and be able to hit in the 1 or 2 position?
  2. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Sep 27, 2006 -> 05:48 PM) In 2006 teams realized if they could shut down the heart of the order, we were toast. But hey, don't take my word for it--Bill Melton said the same thing. The problem there is that our home run hitters were the core of our offense. It was the guys who were supposed to be good at "smallball", like Pods, Iguchi, etc., that ended up stalling our offense during the 2nd half (Iguchi's been better over the last month). If you're going to play smallball, you better hope that you have players that know how to execute.
  3. Cotts would be a better trade chip. It's too bad his ERA really blew up over the past few weeks. Even when he was going bad, his ERA was still respectable.
  4. QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Sep 27, 2006 -> 05:31 PM) Now the news conference is at 2:15. Why all the delays? Now it's at 3:15. He is denying conversation with Michael Irvin. Why would Irvin lie about talking to TO? Irvin and Sanders have claimed to talk with TO today, and they both said TO told them that he didn't try to kill himself.
  5. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 27, 2006 -> 05:18 PM) If we did this, we would still need a lead off hitter, which would mean we would have to unload either Fields, Sweeney or Anderson or all to deal for a lead off man, because Crawford isnt it. Crawford is a special, special talent though. I don't care if he can't lead off...he's the type of guy that can become a Hall of Fame caliber player for the next 10 years for your franchise. As someone said earlier, McCarthy needs to prove to us he's not another Kip Wells/Jon Rauch. I'm a McCarthy fan, but you can't pass up a talent like Crawford.
  6. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 27, 2006 -> 05:11 PM) If he didn't commit a crime, which I believe he didn't as far as I can tell, then I don't know how a hospital could actually force him to stay. If he really ingested as many pills as has been rumored, you would think they'd want to observe him a little more. I definitely think he tried to harm himself, but I don't believe the 35 pill rumor is correct.
  7. Maybe it's me, but if he really tried to kill himself last night, then would they really just let him leave this morning after having to get his stomach pumped?
  8. What's going to be fun is seeing how McCarthy's start tonight will completely change the opinion of a lot of people on this site.
  9. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Sep 27, 2006 -> 04:18 PM) File under: missing the point Yep...how dare I bring up that the team last year lacked the fire power to come back during the 2nd half of last season. I'm all for making this team more balanced next season, as I'd like to see a new LF, SS, and possibly CF. We need some more speed throughout the lineup, and we have to find a way to make our top and bottom of the order better.
  10. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Sep 27, 2006 -> 03:43 PM) I'm not gonna argue with people who say that the way we played last year--smallball, Ozzieball, smartball, whatever--had nothing to do with it. Bull-sheeet! Back then we had timely hitting, stealing, bunting, comeback ability, you name it. So WHAT if we had all the big bombs this year--that's freakin 2004 Redux. This year we had 20 run games, then shutouts. Strikeout after strikeout after strikeout. Bunts? AWOL. Opposite field hits? AWOL. Did we even attempt ONE suicide squeeze this year? I can't remember one. Tons of guys left on base. Double-play after double-play with one or zero outs. Oh, and did I mention strikeouts? Our offense last year may have been MINIMAL (the "hitless wonder" tag was being tossed around) but it usually did what it had to do. Do not TELL me that last year there were tons of games where the other team would go up 3-0 and we knew the game was over. Last night was just like a repeat of the entire second half story this year: we know you'll never come back because if you don't score 11 runs, you score zero. And ANY suggestion that last year's model wasn't what got us to where we won... well, all I have to say is: see you in 88 years. 'Cause it'll probably be that long again if you want to continue to field the 2004 White Sox, which is EXACTLY what these guys were this year. We went over a 2 month stretch in the 2nd half last season where we didn't overcome a 2 run lead
  11. It's kinda ironic that the best motivating Ozzie did all year was when he gave the Twins players the nickname "piranhas".
  12. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 27, 2006 -> 03:24 PM) Police report on now. Any update would be appreciated.
  13. QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Sep 27, 2006 -> 03:14 PM) The report on yahoo said he took 5, and then attempted to take two more. I think it's horrible that some of you would consider this to be an attempt to grab attention, thats insane guys, faking an attempted suiced, please, this is hardly a joke. There's some confusion with the report, as some people think it's meant to say he had only take 5 of the 40 pills until last night, when he emptied the bottle and ingested the 35 other pills.
  14. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Sep 27, 2006 -> 03:01 PM) I hate to say this because of the outcome but it's true: we won last year because we rebuilt ourselves in the image of the Minnesota Twins. This year, with the addition of Thome, we fell in love with the big bombs and COMPLETELY abandoned what got us to the dance last year. Ugh.....I simply can't believe how people think that the problem with the Sox this year was their lack of smallball. The Sox offense in 2005 sucked, and the only reason is seemed like smallball was working was that our pitching staff made every run we score seem so important. When we have a lineup with guys like Pierre and Lugo next season, I can't wait for people to complain that we don't have enough power consistent through the lineup. Our starting and relief pitching got us to the dance last year...end of story.
  15. If all it took was McCarthy and another prospect, I do that deal in a second.
  16. And why is Ozzie leaving all of our starting pitchers in for so long right now? If he wants to keep saying how fatigued they were, then just let these guys throw 80 pitches now, and then put our extended bullpen into the game.
  17. Not promising that Fields can actually hit the tough lefties in our division if he platoons next season. I guess I shouldn't be shocked that one of our prospects looks overmatched in the majors.
  18. I think the most consistent member of the Sox organization this year has been Hawk....we're eliminated from the playoffs, and he's still complaining about how the umpires are out to get us.
  19. This is absolutely embarrassing. If our starters aren't going to give a s***, then let guys like Haeger and Tracey get a start. If we lose every game the rest of the way by 10 runs, is there any chance that the media might actually question why Ozzie and Cooper have a job?
  20. I'm so thankful we're giving our young guys some playing time....that young catcher we have tonight has quite the future.
  21. QUOTE(daa84 @ Sep 26, 2006 -> 07:33 PM) ive said it before...i want 0 part of chris stewart near the big league team next year... I definitely agree. We need a back-up catcher who can bat righty and have a chance against tough lefties like Johan, Liriano, and C.C. I definitely don't want to see Stewart get that role next year, and we better not bring back Sandy.
  22. It was surely frustrating, but at least we stayed in the race up until the last week and a half of the season.
  23. Why in the world is Garland still in the game? Is Ozzie trying his best to get Garland's ERA over 5?
  24. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 24, 2006 -> 08:55 PM) Reading Yahoo, looks like Sweeney had one hell of a day. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/boxscore;_ylt=...F?gid=260924104] And Ozzie will still play Pods in LF tomorrow over Sweeney!
  25. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Sep 24, 2006 -> 08:51 PM) Buehrle is another person I wouldn't doubt has injury issues. Like Cotts, his follow through is completely different than last season. Not concerning his arm action, but the degree to which his back arches. I've now changed my prediction that we will see either Contreras, Thome, or Buehrle have some type of major surgery this season. Contreras and Buehrle = back, and Thome = wrist.
