  1. I'm shocked that our only runs at this ball park only scored via the homer. We've always talked about the homer or nothing approach, but it really is amazing to see this year.
  2. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 2, 2007 -> 09:20 PM) 21 year old, throwing a lot of strikes with out pinpoint control will give up homers. It happens. He is attacking the zone, and not backing down. He will learn control. In a perfect world he would of had more time in the minors to refine his craft. But he gives us the best chance to win in the 5th starter. And shows a heart of gold, and plus stuff. Yep, which is why you want to see him maybe develop more cut or sink to his fastball as he matures.
  3. QUOTE(TheOcho @ May 2, 2007 -> 09:19 PM) I'm willing to wait another 80 or so years. I would like to enjoy good baseball in the wait tho... and this is not good baseball. I really hope that come July, I'm not in root against Cubs mode compared to watching every second of the Sox game. We desperately need to find a way to come back from this road trip still within 5 games.
  4. Is Aardsma in the doghouse? Seems like he's being used a lot less frequently. I hate seeing MacDougal on the mound two straight games, especially in trailing situations. I'm a big fan of MacDougal's, but you have to be careful with him.
  5. QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 2, 2007 -> 09:14 PM) Well, we were one of the best offensive teams in the league. We were pretty awful during the 2nd half of last year.
  6. QUOTE(TheOcho @ May 2, 2007 -> 09:14 PM) My god... '05 seems so long ago... Learn to appreciate the stars alligning perfectly.
  7. QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 2, 2007 -> 09:12 PM) God I hate our team right now. We're getting what we deserve for bringing back this aging offense almost in tact from last year.
  8. Gotta keep the ball in the park. Looks like he's pitched great, but the main negative with Danks so far is his homer ratio. Oh well, the more we lose, the more heat that will come onto KW for neglecting the 2007 Sox.
  9. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ May 2, 2007 -> 09:06 PM) Crede - broken bat pop up to first Sweeney - broken bat dribbler He might break 100 bats if he played all year. He's nowhere near strong enough for this level right now.
  10. How many times has Crede popped up this year? Also, it's a sad statement when Ryan Sweeney is our best hitting prospect.
  11. QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 2, 2007 -> 09:00 PM) its pathetic when the cubs offense looks head and shoulders better than ours. It's amazing what spending money on upgrading your offense can do for your talent level.
  12. Iguchi is 2 for his last 20. This offense is so f***ing bad. AJP should be hitting 8th, not 3rd.
  13. How far were the homers, and on what type of pitch did Guillen homer on?
  14. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ May 2, 2007 -> 08:00 PM) Mack is not an everyday player. Don't worry, Pods is a quick healer. He'll only be out another month. I think Barbaro heals faster than Pods.
  15. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ May 2, 2007 -> 07:28 PM) Good idea, since hte last person posting on soxtalk that kind of bulls*** made it a national story... Yep, I'm keeping this to myself until it becomes public. When the names from this story are released, I'll simply say yes those are the guys I was referring to or they aren't.
  16. QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 2, 2007 -> 07:13 PM) Hard to believe, but we will only be 1/2 game ahead of the Cubs if they hold on and we lose our game today. Why's it hard to believe? If they get the pitching they've had all year, they're going to be fantastic. Their offense is coming around, and they're not going to lose every 1 run game all year. Their lineup is damn good this year.
  17. QUOTE(SoxPride56 @ May 2, 2007 -> 06:57 PM) They have to break out sooner or later, right? maybe I should have made my prediction AFTER seeing the lineup... Scary thing is this might be our best possible offensive lineup right now.
  18. There's a couple of golden boys of baseball that wouldn't shock me if there names come up. I actually heard a fascinating story about three well known players recently, but I'll just keep them to myself for now.
  19. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 2, 2007 -> 06:15 PM) People are STILL paying attention to the gun on Sox games? No matter what channel we are on, that gun is WAY off. Come on guys, your smarter than that. Doesn't matter about the gun then as comparing the velocity to other starters (using the same gun).
  20. Outside of a few games this year, PK and Dye have been rally killers. At least with Thome, we had someone who could get on base twice a game no matter what.
  21. QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 2, 2007 -> 05:42 PM) Once again, dont read the comcast gun. Javy was above 90 the whole night. Fair enough, but that must mean that Buehrle is throwing 93 mph because he's been 2 mph slower than Contreras when pitching at the Cell (which you'd assume is the same gun). I'm pretty confident in Vazquez. Contreras is the pitcher who I worry won't make it through this season due to being ineffective.
  22. QUOTE(bulokis @ May 2, 2007 -> 04:00 PM) I agree with you on the Thome trade. After we won, we won with clutch hitting and pitching. Then KW traded for Thome and the dynamics change that KW want HR again. KW conflicted himself by getting a HR player instead of a doubles guy for example in Overbay. On base and slugging percentage is overrated. People tend to forget how much Rowand sucked at the end of 2005 and during 2006.
  23. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ May 2, 2007 -> 03:24 PM) Look what happened with Buehrle pitching the Royals game...nobody wanted him coming out for the 7th.(I won't list posts from the game thread) All he did was get 2 strikeouts throwing 9 pitches in a 1-2-3 inning. I personally didn't want Ozzie bringing Javy out last night, but it's a crap shoot. He gives the benefit of the doubt to the pitchers. I don't always agree, but it probably evens out over the course of the year as far as it working and not working. 2005 it worked well.....2006, his pitching decisions were a disaster....20007 = too early to tell
  24. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ May 2, 2007 -> 03:23 PM) What exactly are the positives surrounding this team? We have a decent pitching staff....that's about it. No speed, no fundamentals, aging veterans, mediocre defense. But we have a power bullpen! (I like the arms we have, but they are giving up too many big runs this year) I don't know what direction this organization is going with the offense, but since the start of the 2nd half last year, they all seemed to have aged about 5 years. Just not a lot of bat speed. You figure that next year, we'll have Thome, PK, and AJP in the lineup for sure. After that, there's going to be a lot of other changes. On the bright side, at least it's fun to see Danks develop in front of our very eyes.
  25. QUOTE(Jimbo @ May 2, 2007 -> 03:12 PM) He was still pitching fine and who cares the odds of us getting a run after the 7th was zero to none anyways. big picture Big picture? You mean not having to have a starter throw an extra 20 pitches. Vazquez has thrown a ton of pitches over his career, and you're alrady seeing signs of his stuff declining. His fastball was in the 89-91 mph range last night. I really never thought I'd see the day where Mark Buehrle was throwing 2 mph slower than Vazquez and Contreras.
