QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 2, 2007 -> 01:53 AM) I don't give a damn if Sweeney has started off slow at Charlotte. This is bulls***. He needs to be in the lineup every day, he's the top position prospect in this organization. It does NOTHING for him to sit there and watch. And he gets benched for Mackowiak, too. Mackowiak is ass against lefties. I'm not saying I blame people for wanting Sweeney. It's more just a pathetic representation of this roster right now.

The 3 AL Central rivals all lead late in the game.

QUOTE(BearSox @ May 2, 2007 -> 01:44 AM) I like the fact that Dye is batting 3rd and Kong 4th. Crede is getting a half-day off by DH'ing. This lineup isn't that bad except for the lack of Sweeney. Kinda funny that people are begging for a hitter in the lineup that can't even hit AAA pitching. When you're struggling, you can't be benching Erstad, who is your best hitter. Another craptastic WHIP outing for Gavin Floyd.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ May 2, 2007 -> 01:33 AM) Wow, Ozzie, you are a complete moron. Am I the only one who wouldn't have a problem if he quit tomorrow? I pray he quits before we go young.

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 07:26 PM) Erstad and Jones are pretty much the same age. Is Jones a long-term answer, any more than Erstad? No. Therein lies the dilemma. We don't want to be the KC Royals and keep putting band-aids on problem positions, with the "veteran of the moment" filling as stop-gaps while younger players mature and are promoted from the farm system. Not only that, but Jones has a pretty decent-sized contract which goes through 08 and I don't even think he's homered this year. Younger and faster? Well, Jones and Erstad would have been better additions 3-4 years ago, when they were in the prime of their careers. Of course, adding older veterans like Dye, Iguchi, AJ, Hermanson, El Duque, Vizcaino, Pods, etc., paid huge dividends. Almost all of those players were outside of their 27-29 year "peak" years and beginning to reach the downsides of their careers, but it worked out for us. In many ways, a player like Murton or even overpaying for Baldelli makes a lot more sense than Jacque Jones or Geoff Jenkins or Pat Burrell, etc. And you also have to figure that acquiring Jones would leave KW strapped to make ANY moves at the deadline after we've had more time to analyze exactly what needs to be added to jumpstart our team for a playoff run. Jones would only be necessary if Thome's injury acts up and causes him to miss more than two weeks. We wouldn't have to give up our top prospects in order to get someone like Jones. We'd have to give up way too much for Rocco or Murton, and neither guy is worth their asking price. Of course, KW could have avoided this mess if he would have found us a LF/leadoff hitter this offseason.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 06:45 PM) If you go after someone, you go after an outfielder that could play a couple positions that way he fits in with Thome out as well as once he gets back. Jacque Jones would be the perfect fit right now
-
QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 06:41 PM) I am again amazed at the willingness of our fans to undervalue our own players. Pods is now more more of an injury risk than Thome. They'll both be back soon enough to help win a championship. No need to panic You don't consider Pods to be an injury risk now?

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 04:00 AM) http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines Okay, now we will have two weeks of criticizing Sweeney and/or Terrero for not being BA, lol. If Terrero plays and plays well, it will be because Ozzie likes him and he's Hispanic. If Sweeney doesn't excel, it will be because Ozzie doesn't like "white" players (see Tracey, Borchard, Anderson, McCarthy, Rauch). And everyone forgets we ran Miguel Olivo out of town, he wasn't white, lol. Of course, Ozzie's greatest compliments over the last four years have been directed at Buehrle, Crede, Konerko, Thome and also Ryan Sweeney to a lesser extent...OH, and I forgot Erstad and Rowand. But Ozzie's definitely crazy and a reverse racist, right? The reason we're pissed off that Terrero got called up is because he's putting up horrible numbers right now, and has been especially awful over the last two weeks. If he plays well, then that would be a great surprise. However, I think it's embarrassing that this organization can't field a single replacement to have four at-bats a day and do nothing else.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 03:07 AM) No you can't. How much did the Sox pay El Duque, $4-6 million? El Duque gave the Sox 120 innings of a 5.10 ERA, not to mention what he did in the playoffs. What El Duque did for the Sox in 2005 was much better than the average fifth starter around the league. My question is this -- when was the Sox lost a bidding war to a player that they realistically wanted? Then again, that's not really a fair question, either, because most of that is based on speculation, not real facts. The Sox really wanted Pierre this offseason, but were basically eliminated as soon as Soriano got the monster deal from the Cubs. I thought El Duque signed like a 3 yr , 15 million dollar deal. He was so bad at the end of 2005 that he had to get removed from the rotation, and he wasn't going to be a starter in 2006 even if the trade never happened. Of course, he made up for any negatives with that one inning in the playoffs. However, I don't think KW believed he'd have to trade him after one season. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 03:03 AM) You are obviously setting a bias by asking about a specific dollar amount and you intentionally include the "not associated with our team" because Konerko was the obvious answer. Well, I apologize for that then as I clearly meant to ask about free agents not associated with our team. I think the lack of answers either way shows that the Sox don't get into bidding wars for high priced talent.
-
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 02:53 AM) Christ, can you be any more pickier? Here's a fact, a majority of these free agent signings the past couple of offseasons for more than $6 million a year have SUCKED. I'm glad we didn't win the bidding war for Odalis Perez or Matt Clement. Same with Dave Roberts and Juan Pierre. Here's a question for you; when's the last time a Sox free agent signing was a total bust? Navarro? How's it being picky to know about a free agent we signed that wasn't on our roster the previous year? Navarro definitely was a bust, and you could theoretically say that El Duque was as well. Dick Allen always talks about how lucky KW got in 2005 as the moves he wanted to make didn't happen for a reason or another, and he was able to make a much better move as a result.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 02:23 AM) Right now, this team is not a .500 team. Without Mr. Thome, and with none of their best 4 other hitters doing anything reasonable with the bat, and with virtually no youth on the field it seems...this team is a below .500 team. If they put Thome in this lineup, they are a slightly above .500 team...if a few people start hitting then we'll see, but right now, this team is not a .500 team. If the Twins and Indians continue to get quality outings from the likes of Ortiz, Silva, and Carmona, we have no chance this year. The Indians are playing good baseball right now.
-
QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 02:06 AM) For Konerko against the Angels and Orioles...and Garland/Contreras/Vazquez, essentially, as they decided to stay here instead of testing the market. Why would we re-sign Jose past 2009 and Konerko past 2010? Both of those contracts might end up being difficult to move...in fact, Konerko's deal is the only one I worried about in the previous five years (when he was really slumping, like he is now), along with the El Duque contract. Is Contreras signed for another 2 full seasons? And obviously I meant a bidding war for a player not affiliated with our team.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 01:55 AM) If you honestly believe Anderson will be hitting .290 with 90RBI, perhaps you should learn a little something about the game before you post bunk like that. His swing isn't conducive to hitting for a high average. He'll be lucky to hit .260 next season. I believe many here could easily live without Crede. If Fields once again figures out how to play baseball I'll have no problem shipping Crede out. If Fields doesn't turn around his swing/attitude right now, his stock is going to plummet. People in the press box in Durham this weekend were shocked at how bad he looked. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 01:57 AM) And since Williams has been here, the Sox have definitely shown they are not willing to spend money. Sorry Fathom, but I beleive you are way off here. We don't spend big money on free agents. If you look at how things are setting up, we're going to have a lot of positions opening up in the next two years that if we want to compete at a division winning level, we're going to have to go outside the organization. If KW really doesn't want to re-sign Buehrle, Garland, or Contreras, then I don't see how we're going to have a lot of trade chips to acquire offensive help. When you can't call up a single player to DH from your system, it makes you worry about your offensive prospects. When's the last time we got into a bidding war for a player and won once it go over 6 million a year?

QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 01:50 AM) but as i mentioned, anderson really struggled playing once a week or so. i dont see how sweeney will do any better. but i have to admit, i was pretty impressed with him when he was called up last year. like ozzie said, he plays the game the right way. i remember him really hustling, going 1st to 3rd, etc. Screw playing the game the right way....that should be everyone in your system. We need people that can hit, and Sweeney is still pretty far away from hitting at the big league level. The ball just doesn't jump off of his bat yet.
-
We're going to be hearing that injury excuse for a long time now as a reason Walker should still have a job.
-
QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 01:45 AM) correct me if im wrong, but we dont have a backup center fielder now or do we? if so, i dont see how perez or fields can help us right now. we need someone to backup erstad, unless we want to see mack out there. it was to hard for anderson to play once a week, so calling sweeney up, who is younger and has less major league exp. makes no sense. so, my guess is that it will be terrero.(sadly) It will be Sweeney. There's no f***ing excuse for Terrero to make this team other than the fact that Ozzie likes him.
-
QUOTE(Haaarold @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 01:32 AM) All you Anderson bashers have your heads up your rears, and obviously don't know a thing about the game aside from what you read in the newspaper or on this website. Your the same bunch that wanted Crede gone mid-way through the '05 season... now you can't live without him. Yes his his bat is slow, but aside from the Pujols' and the Sizemores' and a few other select players around the league, there aren't too many guys coming up from the minors that immediately make a huge impression after only one season. A year from now when he is gone and hitting .290 w/ 90 rbi's and playing a gold glove caliber cf you 'll be complaining how stupid KW was for moving him. Learn a little something about the game before you post bunk like that. Not sure he could even put up those numbers in Little League with his current swing. I'll be so proud of Anderson if he can go down to the minors and excel.
-
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 01:27 AM) What's he heartless about? Any word? Sweeney going up? Who knows...just an observation of how he looked. I don't want to state anything I'm not confident about, but it wouldn't shock me if this was something heads was referring to earlier.
-
QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 01:27 AM) Its good to see the scouting department finally get called out in numbers. They are lousy. Same for minor league instructors. Our only fundamentally sound players are from other teams. Also the only guys with fastballs above 90 mph seem to come from other systems as well.
-
I heard it might be a back injury, not sure though. The reports this weekend about Fields aren't promising. I was told he looked as heartless as a professional player can look with all of his errors caused by being lazy. He swung and missed numerous times this weekend.
-
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 11:59 PM) As well as they should. That's quite a bold statement with little to no factual evidence. Why do people think this is the complete end of Anderson? What if Mack or Erstad gets hurt? (assuming it's not within the next two days.) What exactly has Eduardo Perez been up to lately? Does he still want to play? I fully expect Sox to go into rebuilding mode after this year. I don't see any situation where we bring back Buehrle or Dye. With that in mind, unless we're willing to actually spend enough money to be competitive, we'll be looking to trade Garland and Crede this offseason.
-
An embarrassing couple of days for the organization.
-
QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 11:00 PM) I forgot about Pods coming back also so somebody will be going down to the famr right? Maybe Logan? At least another month for Pods is back. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 11:02 PM) It's the right move. Anderson was doing very little, if anything, to help this team. However, as I driving home from the game, listening to the news, I immediately knew we wouldn't see Anderson in Chicago again, unless its with the opposition. A shame, but I just think the bridges have already been burned. I just hope this is the end of seeing young guys get in the doghouse for some reason and not be able to get out of it.
-
Here's the big issue: if Anderson has no future with this organization, then we're really going to regret it when we going into full rebuilding mode after this year.
