  1. Got one run, but you hope for two in that situation. It would be nice of Contreras to shut down the Indians early in this game, and let our team try to build a solid lead.
  2. I take it neither Iguchi or Thome's deep hit to center were close to going out?
  3. QUOTE(hi8is @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 09:57 PM) your always worried... about everything. I never said that I don't. The sad thing is that I'm not even close to being the most pessimistic person on this board these days. I honestly think some people expected the Sox to go 162-0.
  4. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 09:42 PM) The Sox already have a slick-fielding weak-hitting SS. I rather have the guy with the better arm, who has more power. Unless Izturis is considered a back-up at all infield positions, maybe taking Cintron's place for the better defense. I'm worried we'd give up an awful lot for Izturis.
  5. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 08:11 PM) Can't hold leads We've had problems holding leads all season.

QUOTE(beautox @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 07:58 PM) i agree do you know who we can all this blame this on....The Count's Agent, for dicking around both him and the sox. If he would've signed the deal before Garland, Garland's ass would've been long gone. Well, I'm not going to be Mr. Pessimist, and say that at least we have Contreras signed for 3 more years. As long as he can stay healthy, we'll have a lot of success with him on the mound.
  7. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 07:58 PM) We faced Jose Contreras? I'm pretty sure C.C. has been the best pitcher in baseball since he came off the DL.

QUOTE(beautox @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 07:55 PM) I seriously think the lack of use and lack of a "role" has been whats killing McCarthy. He's better suited for the starting spot, especially with his "feel" pitches (changeup and curve). It was one of the main reasons the Sox should have looked to trade Garland this offseason.
  9. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 07:41 PM) When I say shut out I am generalizing. Not literally, but you get the idea: we either rack 'em up or we're dismal. Think of it: two nights ago we were up 3-0 and they scored four runs. That was enough to beat us. Shutout, schmutout, you get the idea. How dare we score 3 runs against the hottest pitcher in baseball.

QUOTE(beautox @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 07:43 PM) Truthfully i think having a lack of a Complete CF is killing us, Mackowiak got hot with his bat, but sucks in CF, and Anderson is amazing with the Glove but is out matched at the plate at this moment its a catch 22(and not the ska band). I couldn't agree more with this paragraph. Even though our relief is weak, we still can win a lot of games with Jenks, Cotts, Thornton, and McCarthy being solid pitchers. However, the CF has to be out there every game, and it's just a terrible position for us right now. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 07:46 PM) But the fields, owens, rogowskis, haegers etc etc etc all qualify. Only Fields has real trade value out of that group of guys. Fields, Broadway, and Sweeney are our main 3 minor leaguers right now.

From everything I've been told within the Tampa organization, Crawford's not going anywhere. Ideally, they want him in LF, Rocco in CF, and Delmon in RF....with Gomes at DH. Gathright is the most likely guy to get traded....but he's awful. Crawford, in my opinion, isn't a very likely option to get traded to the Sox.
  12. QUOTE(Wedge @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 07:29 PM) Outrageous statement which may be true: If Chris Young had played thus far in the season in place of Brian Anderson, he would be struggling just as bad, if not worse. Young is better offensively than Anderson, but Anderson is better defensively. There's no doubt in my mind that Young would put up better offensive numbers in the majors if he got the ABs that Anderson has so far.

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 07:06 PM) Is that all it would take? If that is the case then count me in. We'd be giving up one of the better young pitchers in the game, and easily our best power hitting prospect. If you make a trade like that, you better hope the payroll stays above 100 million.

Fields and McCarthy. To be honest, I think Rocco is more likely going to be available for a trade.
  15. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 03:52 PM) Sure, and for every legitimate post here, there are five or ten extremist, reactionary posts. Players get thrown under the bus here (and I'm assuming most other baseball MBs) whenever they make a mistake. When Ozuna misplayed a fly ball in LF in Kansas City, people here wanted him banned from the outfield. Nevermind the fact that it was extremely windy that evening. Nevermind the fact that Ozuna hardly ever plays at all. Off with his head! When Anderson failed to produce at the plate, people here wanted him sent down to the minors. Nevermind the fact that it was not even two months into the season. Nevermind the fact that he's a rookie. Nevermind the fact that his defense in CF has been stellar. Off with his head! :rolly I agree that Pods does not play CF well. But the notion that he's completely incapable of playing the position is complete crap. The reports we all saw about Pods was after the season. Typically, the reactionary posts subsided, and it's easier to evaluate a player's ability then. And yes....in a perfect world, Ozuna should never play in the outfield again, and Anderson should be in the minors right now.
  16. QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 03:53 PM) Ive heard that before and always ignored it. I cant tell you how GREAT I feel, when I see a grounder roll roll easily under the outstretched glove of a helpless cub, as the other team scores the winning run. Theres a small rush I get, I admit. I'm right there with you. I hate the Cubs, and I'd be lying if I said it didn't make last night a little more pleasant for me to see them lose. Especially after the whole s*** with Barrett and Zambrano, I'm kinda surprised that there aren't more people talking s*** about them on a regular basis. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 03:55 PM) I think the part I miss about Frank the most (since he can still hit hr's) would be when he would be totally overmatched at the plate as a pitcher was dead on making perfect pitches and he'd just have one of his ugly swings where he just tried to slap the ball over the 2nd baseman or 1st basemans head (or dump it into CF). He was the best I ever saw at taking a great pitchers pitch and depositing it in for an ugly single. VINTAGE FRANK. It was so odd to get burned like that last week when he had the same hit against Jeff Nelson.
  17. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 03:39 PM) There are gaping holes in our team and they are named Politte, Anderson and Uribe. Teams aren't in the market to be trading. Realistically, only 3 teams are completely out of it already (Pitt, Florida, KC). Good luck trying to find a lot of talent on those teams that could help us out. The only person who I think would be a good fit on any of those teams, and could realistically be traded, is Roberto Hernandez. Last time I checked, his ERA was well under 2.
  18. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 03:33 PM) Right, and Brewers fans are credible scouts. Just like the "scouts" here at Soxtalk. :rolly I honestly don't think this should be in green. When legitimate posters on soxtalk make an observation about a player's ability, they're usually pretty well-informed. We see these players perform every single night, and we're able to form our opinion that way. And the reason that butchers in the outfield are able to play LF is that it's the easiest position in baseball. That's why guys like Manny, Pods, Adam Dunn, and C. Lee are out there. Also, if you put Pods in CF, every single to center is going to allow the runner to go from first to third.
  19. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 03:28 PM) Won't happen, but I did read Ozzie is planning to get Gload some PT on the upcoming homestand. I assume it's cause you think he won't sit Konerko. The only reason I'm hoping for this lineup is that PK is struggling right now, and lefties destroy Byrd.
  20. This is the lineup I'd like to see tonight: Pods, Iguchi, Thome, Dye, AJP, Crede, Gload, Mackowiak, Cintron
  21. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ May 30, 2006 -> 04:08 AM) Well, well, welll, so suddenly everyone is on the 'Uribe's hitting sux' kick eh? I was saying it all of last year, but since he was lighting it up for a while, no one listened. There is nothing in his approach or form that should make him a good hitter. When he gets hot it's the ball hitting his bat, not the other way around. You mean the same person that so many people on soxtalk said they would hate to lose in a possible trade with Tejada?
  22. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 03:17 PM) He misplayed a few balls in CF last year and people here stuck him with the "he sucks" tag. We're seeing the same thing now with Mackowiak (who rarely plays CF) and Ozuna (who rarely even plays). In other words, it's typical Soxtalk. Every scouting report from Milwaukee fans said that Pods absolutely sucked in CF. Not only that, but playing CF just increases the chances of him hurting himself. I'm almost positive that he hurt his groin last season in one of his rare CF appearances.
  23. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 12:02 PM) I am going to be different and NOT say bullpen. I have been apalled by the complete lack of fundemental baseball over the past few weeks. As a matter of a fact, I will go out on a limb and say the Sox will be on the outside looking in for the playoffs if they keep playing this style of baseball, no matter what is done with the bullpen. Well said. I agree that we're not going to make the playoffs if we continue to play the same brand of baseball, and get similar execution. We're a power hitting team who tries to play small ball, and it doesn't work that well. I absolutely hate how we try to bunt in front of Thome. He's definitely not the type of guy who's going to hit you sac flies. Rather, we should try to save the outs, and just let our 3-4-5 get as many ABs with guys on as possible. The main reason why I feel CF is our most glaring need is that we need to get some production from the bottom of the order. If you start getting guys on for the top of the order, that's when we can get big innings going.
  24. QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 02:24 PM) I watched last nites game, and Im not sure if the guys are tired, or what. Hafner hit a smoking shot towards DYE, and he misjudged it, having let it bounce over his head (he wouldve had it). Luckily, he didnt score. There was another shot hit towards Mackowiak, and he totally misplayed it and it went soaring over his head for extra bases. These guys have to turn it up a notch ...........way too much of this the last month, and uncharacteristic. Defense has lost us a couple games already this year.. In both instances, why not blame Garcia for throwing meatballs down the plate to great hitters? Both of those balls were rockets. Dye had no chance on Hafner's double, and Sizemore's triple was hit very hard. Yes, our defense over the past few weeks has sucked (it started in the 6th inning of the Sunday Cubs game, and it seems like everyone has had some issues....besides Anderson).
  25. QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 01:41 AM) has he given up any earned runs? >i dont know why hes struggling so much this season. supposebly he doesnt have enough confidence.he had a GREAT season last year and pitched in the f***in playoffs. how much more confidence do u need?? I think if you asked everyone on this site who was the one player they were sure wouldn't match their numbers from last season, it was Politte. According to one statistic, he was the luckiest pitcher in all of baseball last season. Just be grateful he was so good for us last season.
