  1. Good for you Jim...keep going towards 50/500.
  2. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 06:55 PM) Podsednik is getting a lot better at getting the runner to third with 2 outs, don't you think Ha, great post
  3. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 06:55 PM) Well the Sox will be 1-4 against Boston and NYY with Contreras and Buerhle each getting 2 starts. I think this should end the "Detroit can't beat good teams" crap, because apparently the White Sox can't either. I think it also sets up ESPN as being all east coast all the time. I despised the comments from people about the Tigers not being able to beat good teams. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 06:55 PM) KW should be placing a call to inquire about Schmidt or D Train.... or Soriano
  4. QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 06:51 PM) As I'm sure there wasn't a baseball expert out there who picked the White Sox to beat the Red Sox in the ALDS last year? We're just plain bad right now, not just the pitching, the defense, its just not there. The two main ingredients of the 2005 team. CWSOX45 I'm not an optimist at all, and I thought we were clearly better than the Red Sox going into that series. The big problem we have right now is that the Red Sox, Tigers, and Twins are significantly better this season than they were last year. Like you said, this is a totally different team we have this season, so there's really no track-record for how we'll perform the rest of the way.
  5. QUOTE(quickman @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 06:49 PM) Yea well he seems to be bad alot. In fact I would say we couldn't count on him to pitch a good game right now. Say what you want about his competiveness and continue to back him up but quite frankly I view him as Unreliable at this point in time. Now in addition to him the sox are completely lacking focus. They feel the slide happening. There heads are not in the game. No fundelmentals, and poor defense. This team needs a spark, and I think it's more likely to come on offense than it is defense.
  6. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 06:48 PM) I was reading a scouting report that said he's actually been throwing harder this year. He was at 87 mph today. Let's not be like Cubs fans and act like the only way a pitcher can get roughed up is if they're hurt.
  7. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 06:47 PM) Honestly guys, did you think we were going to go cruising along winning EVERY SINGLE SERIES without having serious roadbump again? This stretch for us is brutal with Bos, NYY, Det, and I am likening it to last season's mid-August stretch. Let's just get through it, salvage some games where we can, and get back to gaining our confidence back with a relatively easy last part of the month and august schedule. We're not playing National League teams anymore. There's not a baseball expert alive who's watched our series vs the Red Sox and Yankees and thought we were a better team. The scary thing is that we've had our 2 best guys face both teams in the 5 games so far.
  8. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 06:43 PM) Its incredible how much Buerhle becomes batting practice when the Sox commit a miscue in the field lately. I think there may be something wrong with him. He's struggled before, and snapped back, but I can't ever recall him getting hit as hard as he's been the last 3 or 4 starts. Or maybe he just hasn't had a team like the Royals to face to get him back on the right track. I know he faced the Cubs, but that was a solid line-up they had that day, and the wind was blowing out.
  9. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 06:42 PM) Yeah, I'm sure he doesn't care. After those first two runs, he said, f*** it, I don't care if we win. I love blaming only the pitcher when he got pathetic fielding behind him. Buehrle might be a lot of things, but there's no bigger competitor on the Sox. QUOTE(quickman @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 06:44 PM) buehrle is Horrible. Nothing else to say about him, except as I predicted last week we would be 6 games out after the tiger series and fighting for the wild card spot. the ship is sinking and we will need a trade big time to infuse some light in this team. 51 pitches is not that many pitches for buehrle, could be he is hurt. He's not hurt....just bad today.
  10. QUOTE(That funky motion @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 06:40 PM) National game. What else is new this year. Playing dumb. We were great on national games this year.
  11. QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 06:40 PM) God this is f***ing ridiculous. This team looks f***ing horrible. Ozzie needs to start kicking these guys in the ass. This series is big too, I dont buy that "It's only July bulls***" We have a 5.0 game lead in the wild card, and now it's going to be 4.0. Not to mention a 4.5 game lead in the AL Central. Do people really expect an "Ozzie rant" to impact this team that much? No manager in the world could win with this horses*** starting pitching we're getting.
  12. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 06:39 PM) Buerhle has a shot to give up double digit runs for the second time this month. Yep....and he made the all-star team? Pull PK, Thome, and Dye.
  13. This is the worst we've played all year. The Yankees and Torre are shoving it up the Sox ass right now.
  14. QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 06:35 PM) I never expected our starting staff to repeat its success in 2005, but what I've seen so far this year sickens me. It makes me appreciate how everything fell into place last year even more. Go no further than looking at Cliff Politte for how magical of a season it really was.
  15. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 06:33 PM) Well, KW supposedly did call the Marlins about Willis so it sounds he sees the problem and isn't content with our overpriced crap. Where did you see this?
  16. I think our bullpen is pretty deep right now. It's not their fault that Ozzie has absolutely no clue how to use guys like McCarthy or Cotts (both should be allowed to start innings and face 5 or 6 guys in a game). In the past few months, we've only lost a few games due to our bullpen. Now, our starting pitching has been a much different story.
  17. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 06:32 PM) economically speaking, a sunk cost is unrecoverable in other words, I couldn't disagree with fathom more Trust me, I don't agree with what I said, but it's the reality of how baseball works. There's been way too much talk about how this is the greatest rotation in history. The whole Vazquez trade has really been a disaster so far.
  18. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 06:31 PM) That's stupid. Make improvements no matter how much money we've got invested in the starters. Standing by while watching this mess is retarded. I know you've been saying we need to add another starter. While I admire your passion about doing this, it's very unlikely.
  19. QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 06:27 PM) come on Kong, you got jammed by the same pitch twice, pathetic. His bat speed has been non-existent for 2 weeks now.
  20. QUOTE(atrain081 @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 06:26 PM) it just looks like our starters are tired out there. i wouldn't mind trying a six man rotation for a little bit and see if that doesn't help any I don't buy the tired excuse at all. Especially coming off of the all-star break. As I've said all year, with the money we have invested in these 5 guys, if they continue to underachieve, we don't deserve to make the playoffs.
  21. On the bright side, maybe we'll be forced to make a move in the next 7-10 days if we get destroyed by the Yanks/Tigers. I can't believe how much our starters have underarchieved over the past few months. QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 06:23 PM) I was hoping that after the all-star break our starters would regain their true form....now I'm starting to get extremely concerned... Did you see the teams on our schedule to start the 2nd half?
  22. Man, does our starting pitching absolutely suck right now.
  23. QUOTE(rangercal @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 06:18 PM) you cried all year in 2005. I think we did all right that year. That was last year, where our pitching was sensational. My grandma can coach a team effectively if the starters will consistently give you 7 innings, 2 runs.
  24. QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 06:17 PM) my god, none of the breaks are going the SOx' way so far, get the f*** outta the way Giabmi. The Yankees are creating their breaks so far. You don't see them taking called 3rd strikes, etc. They're playing very focused baseball so far, as they know how important this series is.
  25. QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 06:16 PM) Perhaps because one is a rookie and the other is a veteran unlikely to improve? Of course there's a double standard. Well, it's the 2nd half of the season, and we're facing the toughest part of our schedule. I don't care if he's a rookie or a 20 season veteran....he needs to play better, smarter baseball.
