White Sox VS. Red SOX -Game thread (Sep 5th)

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 5, 2005 -> 04:54 PM) Why would you even bother leading off the base so much? He does it all the time. He comes so close to getting picked off on just routine moves over to 1b. However, before we all freak out too much, I don't think that move will be that important in the outcome of this game. -

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 5, 2005 -> 04:53 PM) Prepare for the 5 Minute breakdown on sportscenter tonight about How Curt Schilling is back and he was able to shutout the White Sox. Who cares, if we don't score runs against him, then he deserves it. -

QUOTE(daa84 @ Sep 5, 2005 -> 04:53 PM) completely inexcusible to be picked off there. He's been picked off more this season than any player I've ever seen since I've been watching baseball. -

Unbelievable. He's become totally irresponsible on the bases. -

Pretty good AB by Uribe there. It was nice to see him lay off 3 straight splitters in the dirt. I know the results weren't good, but it's still nice to see better focus at the plate. -

He might be only throwing 88-92 mph, but our hitters are making it look like 96 with their swings. Has McCarthy thrown a change-up yet? -
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 5, 2005 -> 09:51 AM) I'd think Konerko 2003 and Konerko 2004 would be right there as well. There were signs that PK was turning it around, especially in the 2nd half of 2003. Also, PK is a known quantity. Cotts never gave a hint that he could be this dominant over such a long period of time. Underachiever or not, I just know that he went from someone who you had to worry about throwing 10 straight pitches over the batter's head to a pitcher where we're all whining about that he should be in the game.
-
Neal Cotts has the greatest turnaround from one year to the next of any Sox player in recent memory.
-
Isn't he around 20 straight outings without allowing a run? The one constant criticism I've had of Ozzie is that he doesn't put enough faith in our bullpen. I understand resting your bullpen....but too much rest can be bad also.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Sep 4, 2005 -> 10:08 PM) My prediction: LF Pods 2B Harris DH Everett 1B Konerko CF Rowand RF Perez SS Uribe 3B Blum C Widger I guarantee Gload is at 1b tomorrow, and PK won't be playing in the field. Also, I think we should rest Pods. If we're not going all out tomorrow, then there's no reason to risk injury to him.

Timo, Gload, Rowand, PK, Dye, Blum, Widger, Uribe, Harris

Even I think that's too pessimistic. If these games don't matter too much vs the Tigers, then why should we have worried that the Indians were making up ground against us when they were facing them? The Tigers are a team that I'm shocked we've played so well against, as we don't really match up well against them. I'm not surprised we struggled against Bonderman, as we don't do very well against top-notch righty offspeed stuff.
-
I'm not exactly the easiest person to make happy, but I'm thrilled with this wknd series we just had. We just took any momentum the Indians might have had, and shoved it where the sun don't shine. Our pitchers definitely seemed to have a swagger about them this week. It was great to see hot swinging players like Young and Pena do nothing against our guys.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Sep 4, 2005 -> 09:32 PM) A win's a win. We're not bringing many regulars to Boston tomorrow. It's not exactly going to be a measure of anything. Yeah, winning tomorrow would be more like a bonus to me than anything else. We should have a contest to predict tomorrow's starting line-up.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Sep 4, 2005 -> 09:20 PM) You feelin a little bit better now fathom? If we went .500 the rest of the way, the Indians could only lose 4 more games. Yes, I'm feeling much better. I saw a team this wknd that went out and just dominated the games like they knew they had to win them. The Tigers had no chance this series. There was definitely more of a sense of urgency in this team. We now have 3 four game sweeps in the 2nd half of the season.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 4, 2005 -> 08:58 PM) For those who can't/arent watching, Oz went out to the mound, looked at Jon, and the camera caught Jon saying "One more." Oz turned around, and walked back to the dugout. I love it. Too bad he didn't say "Strike this mother f***er out!"

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 4, 2005 -> 08:44 PM) I never said anything about Politte. I know, but that would likely be who's brought into the game. Tigers have a lot of righties in their order today.
-
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 4, 2005 -> 08:41 PM) I pull Garland here, or after he allows his next baserunner. Politte really worries me right now. He's been off on his pitches for about a month now, and his ball has been tailing up and in to righties. He's given up like 4 homers in the last 30 games or so because he missed his location.

Indians are rallying off of Rincon.

4-3, going into bottom of the 7th in Twins game. BTW, is it me, or has AJP K'd a ton lately?

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 4, 2005 -> 07:57 PM) Pablo makes a nice play, and I'm happy. I switch over to MLB Extra Innings to see Shannon Stewart with a HUGE, two out, bases loaded single driving in two. 4-3 Twinkies!!! About time Stewart did something to help the Sox! Thanks jphat for your updates also. I'm stuck at work, and boy does it suck not being able to watch the game.
