QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 03:32 AM) This is a focking dumb move. Wee Wee Willie cant hit. And dont give us last years stats. Last year means nothing this year. If he batted 400 last year and then 170 this year, he still sucks this year. Wee Willie cant steal either. I understand the entire chemistry thing, but come on. Let Anderson give us a shot in the arm. Lets see what the kid will do. Just when you thought they made enough dumb decisions, Timo at DH, Timo at 1st, Timo leading off. They decide to bring up "Its my time now" FOCKING STUPID I just don't get our mentality right now. Ozzie sure seems concerned about not bringing in any new blood. In reality, I think the thing our team really could use is a boost from someone new.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 03:33 AM) Guys almost everyone in the media reported that Vizquel was headed to the Sox this november. Bruce was not the only one. I'm not sure why everyone hates him. Find me the last time he was right on any trade? Considering it's his profession, he sure doesn't have a very good grasp of the baseball industry. He should be known as Captain Obvious.

QUOTE(spiderman @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 03:32 AM) Let's just hope that Kenny Williams can find a way to upgrade the team further before August 31st whether it be Griffey Jr. (beware of all the rumors that keep coming up - if something happens, great!, otherwise, carry on, there's nothing to see here) or some other upgrade. Yep, and I really hope KW doesn't think Willie Harris is a logical option to replace Pods in LF!

QUOTE(WhiteSoxAaron! @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 03:31 AM) Fathom you seem cool Wow, you must be a newbie. Complimenting me probably won't get you very well-liked on this board. I'm sorry, I'm on the record as saying I won't be in gamethreads during the playoffs.

QUOTE(WhiteSoxAaron! @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 03:30 AM) but we can still get him right? Yes
-
QUOTE(WhiteSoxAaron! @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 03:28 AM) when will we find out who will get him who else wants him? and what is the chance of us gettting him? should I get my hopes up? Until you hear something that suggests the Reds want to trade him, carry on with your regular life.
-
QUOTE(Tadahito Iguchi @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 03:26 AM) I'm not understanding why they didn't put a claim on Griffey. You can't risk the Reds telling you to take him, and getting stuck with his whole contract.

QUOTE(WhiteSoxAaron! @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 03:24 AM) Ya well is there any news on this? I am new hear so tel me how this place is, I hated whitesoxinteractive everyone said you guys are better? anyways is there any news on this trade? In reality, not a damn thing besides Griffey Jr. cleared waivers.
-
Until I hear anything that suggests the Reds ownership seriously wants to move Griffey Jr., I'm not getting my hopes up regarding this trade.

QUOTE(GBlum27 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 03:18 AM) GRIFFEY CLEARED WAIVERS THANKS BRUCE YOU ARE SO INSIGHTFUL I know some people defend Levine on this site, but he's one of the worst "inside" guys in baseball. I can't remember the last time he was on top of a trade rumor.

Anything on Sportsnite?

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 03:06 AM) Taking Rowand out of a GG position and sticking in a 35 year old injury plagued veteran who's bat would do wonders for our team, is recipe for disaster. Especially when that 35 year old veteran is your best hitter and owed a buttload of money over the next 25 years. Trust me, I agree with you. However, I don't think there's a chance in hell KG Jr. would play LF. Even Ozzie was considering playing Rowand in LF before the season.
-
QUOTE(bigred3535 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 03:05 AM) I'm surprised this has not been posted: On Sportscenter before the Cards game they said Griffey had passed through waivers and the Sox and Reds were still working on a deal, although Griffey had not been approached about waiving his no-trade clause yet. Was this what Gammons said? If so, it didn't seem like he had any inside information regarding a deal.
-
QUOTE(aboz56 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 02:56 AM) if Hermanson goes down, we are in deep trouble late in games. I guess we'd use Cliff as the closer, but that makes it essential for Cotts/Marte/Jenks to be able to handle the 7th and the 8th. I surely don't trust Jizz or Adkins. If Hermy went to the DL, who would be called up? Doesn't seem like Baj is going to get a shot, although he is the logical choice. Viz's role would definitely be upgraded.
-
QUOTE(WSFAN35 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 03:01 AM) Neither does having a $16 million a year player. Yeah, since the Reds have so many other starts that can attract fans? I can see it now " Come one, come all....come see Eric Milton make a run at the most homers allowed in a season!"
-
What really annoys me is that we have, according to most scouting experts, one of the most MLB ready minor league outfielders in Brian Anderson. The leadoff spot in the order is incredibly overrated, especially in the AL. Just cause we can put someone with speed at the position, it doesn't mean s***. A guy with no speed who can get on base at a high clip is more valuable than someone with good speed who can't even obtain a .300 OBP.
-
QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 02:58 AM) He has played the outfield a total of 105 times with a FPCT of .992. He's never played in LF!
-
QUOTE(VAfan @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 02:56 AM) So what is hanging up this deal? I think it is money. I bet if the Sox took on all of the non-deferred portion of Griffey's deal, that the Reds would say okay. They might even accept something other than Chris Young if we'd pay all of Griffey's $12.5 million/year through 2008. The Reds ownership is looking to sell the team. Losing their marquee player doesn't exactly raise the team's value. That's why they didn't make the trade a few weeks ago, and that's why I don't buy any of the new news.
-
QUOTE(aboz56 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 02:55 AM) Does this confirm a DL trip for Pods? I think everyone assumes it's going to happen.
-
QUOTE(sircaffey @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 02:50 AM) Griffey in CF is better than Pods or Carl in LF, but with no experience in LF, we really don't know how Jr. would adjust to LF and i dont know if that is something Ozzie/KW will want to do while we are charging for the pennant. Carl/Pods in LF, Aaron in CF, and Dye in RF w/ Jr. at DH is the best lineup... Everett at less than 100 pct in the outfield is a recipe for disaster or an injury. If he does play more than a few games in the outfield while he's still not 100 pct., then we might not have to worry about who would play in the playoffs.
-
QUOTE(Sox Hustler @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 02:52 AM) God dammit, this type of news pisses me off. We have 2 good minor leaguers raking the damn ball down there, who can field well, but don't call them up. Give one of them a chance for gods sake. Pedro Lopez wasn't supposed to be here but he did for a short time and made the best of it, let Anderson or Owens get a chance geez. I was watching the Braves game today during our rain delay, and it was awesome to see the energy they were playing with thanks in large part to their young guys. We have a 12.5 game lead....we can afford to give a legit prospect like Anderson a shot.
-
Wow, where are the same people that were so happy to see Harris get shipped out of town a few weeks ago? I definitely dislike the idea of putting a player in the field at a position they've never played before. You're just asking for an injury to him or another player. How would you feel if he collided with Rowand cause he had no clue what he was doing?
-
QUOTE(agame @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 02:48 AM) If we somehow got Griffey, what would be our best (playoff) lineup? Someone would have to sit during the playoffs which would be unfortunate. I figure you can't bench Pods because of speed, A-Row because of defense, Griffey's bat couldn't start on the bench. That leave's either Everett or Dye of which I think Everett would win by a bit IMO. What do you guys think? Everett would be on the bench in that case. If you're facing a tough righty like Clement, then Dye would sit. Also, who's to say Pods gets close to 100 pct again this season?

This is like Cubs fans comparing D. Lee to A. Pujols. Who gives a s***, any team would want either of these players above almost anyone else.
