QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 29, 2005 -> 07:11 PM) Yuck. If that's the case, then ya can't pick up a contract that big without some help from the team sending him over. But, if they were willing to pick up some of the contract, I'd start with a package of Konerko/Tracey. Hell, I wouldn't object to giving up someone like Josh Fields (yes, the first round pick) for Helton, if they ate a lot of it... Rockies have Ian Stewart as their 3rd baseman of the future. There's no comparison between him and Fields. If we get someone as top-notch as Helton, we're going to have to say goodbye to 2 of the 3: McCarthy, Anderson, Sweeney. Remember how much we gave up for Garcia last year?

First time the shift has worked for the Sox all year it seems.

QUOTE(JimH @ May 29, 2005 -> 07:09 PM) Yes, I heard some of the same stuff in Tucson. As bad as the Rockies are, they love Helton, he's the face of their franchise. They'd have to be bowled over and blown away to trade him and at least for now I also heard they do not want to pick up any of his salary, they've taken a lot of heat for doing that. Yep, it's one thing to trade Walker and Hampton. But Helton is easily the best player in franchise history, and they'd piss off their fans if they gave another team money to take him off their hands.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 29, 2005 -> 07:08 PM) Yikes, Pods GIDP He's really having a rough time at the plate in terms of making solid contact. His bat seems to be dragging through the zone big time.
-
As much as we've bashed them, good job by our 8-9 guys this inning.
-
Finally, Uribe just went with the pitch. I was scared Soriano was going to catch it. How about a hit-and-run with Pods here!
-
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 29, 2005 -> 07:04 PM) I didn't hear that. I believe you, but do you got an article link to where they said it? Because, I'm not suggesting the Sox pick up the whole contract. They've picked up a big portion of the salary before, with Walker and Hampton, no reason to think they won't do it again -- IMO. Sorry, no official link to that. That's just the popular opinion that I've heard from some members of the Orioles organization, a team which is very much trying to trade for Helton.

Great to see Rowand start to hit some doubles down the line like he did last year. However, I have a bad feeling we wont get any of the runners in here. Just hit a grounder to 2nd Crede!

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 29, 2005 -> 07:03 PM) Fabulous AB by Dye Agreed. He always looks great in Texas.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 29, 2005 -> 07:01 PM) AJ!!!!! And fathom, don't tell me that Kenny can't or won't do something (for better or for worse). We would have had one of Carlos Delgado or Larry Walker had either wanted to come here. Helton, Coors Field or not, is one of the best hitters in all of baseball. Obviously, money would have to come to us, but I'm almost 100% he's looking at Helton. Well, Delgado was a FA after the season, so there was no worry about his contract. As for Walker....the Rockies were willing to pick up a huge portion of his salary in a trade. The Rockies have already said they won't pick up any of Helton's contract if he's traded.
-
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 29, 2005 -> 06:58 PM) If Kenny thinks that a bat like Helton can put us over the top, he's going to go for him, regardless of his contract. Says who? It's one thing to make a deal for someone who has a big contract for the rest of the season. It's another thing to make a deal for someone who's still owed tens of millions of dollars. With that in mind, we're better off keeping PK for the rest of the year instead of being stuck with Helton's huge contract.
-
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 29, 2005 -> 06:55 PM) I know it seems unrealistic... But I bet Williams is looking to Colorado at Helton. And yes, I know the contract structure. Kenny isn't a stupid man, he's definitely looking to upgrade 1B and 3B, especially if the duo there continue to be absolutely dismal offensively. Helton's not a reasonable option. He's also having a terrible year (for him), and it's likely teams with bigger pockets will go after him.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 29, 2005 -> 06:54 PM) The only reason our lead will stay at 3.5 games -- Roy Halladay is pitching a gem against the Twins and has a 2-0 lead into the 9th inning. It's sad when we're hoping not to lose ground instead of trying to advance our lead. Reminds me of KC from a few years ago, as well as when the Cubs were like 6 games up at the ASB about 4 years ago.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 29, 2005 -> 06:53 PM) That he needs a rest and gload will do nicely hopefully on Monday. We face Washburn on Monday. PK better be playing.
-
QUOTE(JimH @ May 29, 2005 -> 06:50 PM) They're making Park work, that's good. We can work a pitcher all we want, but we need to score some f***ing runs. We have a lot better chance at scoring than if we have to face Shouse and Cordero, etc. BTW Jim, not trying to pick on everything you say. Just voicing our frustration.
-
QUOTE(JimH @ May 29, 2005 -> 06:48 PM) Yes, you are. Look at the defensive side of things, he brings that every day. No question his market value is lower now than say, 2 years ago. Agreed his defense is solid, but he plays a power position. You don't see many teams who would want a 3rd baseman based on his defense.
-
QUOTE(JimH @ May 29, 2005 -> 06:45 PM) You couldn't be more off base here. Oh am I? He's no longer going to be a cheap player after this season, and he's having a terrible year this season. There's not going to be a big market for someone who hits 15 homers and can't draw a walk to save his life.
-
Swing the f***ing bat Pods! Enough with taking called 3rd strikes.
-
It's a shame when our pitchers have to be perfect in order for us to ever get a comfortable lead.
-
Uribe's trying to pull EVERYTHING!
-
One thing I've never understood is how we never have Crede playing close to the line. Soriano is going to pull the inside fastball by Garland about 100 percent of the time. I watch a lot of Texas games, and other teams usually have their 3rd baseman very close to the line for Soriano.
-
QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 29, 2005 -> 06:39 PM) Why do you guys think Crede has so much trade value? He plays good defense but he can't hit for s*** and 3rd base is an offensive position. Crede has absolutely no trade value. He's no longer considered young, especially with his arbitration clock so far along.
-
If we lose 1-0, then we don't deserve to win this game. If Garland can get out of this inning with only letting one run score, he did a great job.
-
QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 29, 2005 -> 06:38 PM) Garland's only weakness -- he has no strikeout pitch. That is exact the situation in which he needs one. Earlier this year, Garland was throwing that slider under the hands of the lefty batters. I would have liked to see him try and throw that on Nix with a 3-2 count. God knows any Sox hitter would have K'd on a pitch like that.
-
Garland got away with that pitch there. The one pitch that he always seems to have problems controlling is that changeup.
