Alright, Carlos needs to launch right here. It's been a while since he hit one and he needs to keep that OPS around .980.

QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 05:52 PM) I would be all for bringing Gooch back to play 2b and move Alexi to SS for next season. Let Alexi lead off then have Gooch hit 2nd. no

Oney Guillen 1-3 w/ 2B, R

Should have taken that 2 year deal from Colorado. His numbers would undoubtedly be better (he was never going to succeed at petco and the spacious yet homer friendly Coors is right up his ally) and there was like twice as much guaranteed money (it's always a good idea to get as much guaranteed money as possible when you're a 30 something Japanese player in his 4th year in America). And to think there was more than a few people on this board last season who were livid when he was traded.

QUOTE (shipps @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 12:55 PM) Yeah but Alexei has been a pain in the ass on the basepaths for the opposition and of course his defense including his awesome play he made at third base won me over. But I will admit that is a ton of points higher of an OBP(iam torn iamshack). Alexei's defense is ok, it's spectacular at times but he also makes a good amount of mistakes out there and his awesome play at 3B was just a chopper to his left, he showed nice range and all but come on. He still can't steal bases but his speed has been nice on the basepaths. He walked 1 time in August had a batting average that was 14 points lower than Quentin's and an OPS nearly 300 points lower. Alexei is awesome in clutch situations but that's sort of Quentin's specialty as well. Quentin is easily the best player for the month of August, it's not even close in my mind.

This Tigers Blog believes they have figured out the Elias Sports Bureau's formula for calculating Type A and B players. Toby Hall: 25.714, 33.334 points below the lowest Type B Ken Griffey JR: 68.816 TYPE B, 2.5 points below the lowest Type A Jim Thome: 66.000 TYPE B, 5.316 points below the lowest Type A Orlando Cabrera: 84.127 TYPE A, 13.379 points above the highest Type B Juan Uribe: 55.556, .938 points below the lowest Type B Joe Crede: 38.776, 17.718 points below the lowest Type B So assuming this thing is accurate Jim Thome is only a Type B, Juan Uribe is just below Type B and Joe Crede is going to net us nothing. Terrific Cabrera: 2 Thome: 1 Griffey: 1

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 12:48 PM) Does that matter when it comes to September call-ups? Yes

Carlos Quentin and his 1.130 OPS headlines this months group of candidates, the American League MVP hopeful has been red hot since the break and set some new season highs with his incredible August, which was arguably his best month to date as a Big Leaguer. Jim Thome lead the team with 9 HR while Nick Swisher tallied 7 (including a walkoff), Alexei Ramirez actually had his worst month since May in all 4 average categories but pounded 6 HR (a career high) and drove in 22 (the team high for August) and Paul Konerko finally sprung to life with a 1.074 OPS which is only 274 points higher than his previous monthly high for 2008 (June). The pitching was solid in August. Javier Vazquez bounced back posting a 3.72 ERA and 1.23 WHIP to go along with 37 Ks, John Danks had his second worst month of the year which just goes to show how amazing he has been this season, Gavin Floyd's numbers may not popout at you but he's been the stopper, he's coming up huge in a couple of starts when the team truly needed him the most last month, DJ Carrasco continues his excellent work in a setup role (that Oakland game not withstanding) picking up 6 holds and stranding 11 inherited baserunners and Bobby Jenks returned from injury to have possibly his best month of the year going 6/6 in save opportunities while allowing only 1 run. The player who receives the most votes gets a banner. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 09:03 PM) Has there been coformation Bowden is in fact getting the start? MLB.com has him as the probable pitcher tomorrow night. And I just read on SoSH that they have said on NESN that Bowden will start the game tomorrow.
-
Well to be fair he has been one of the best pitchers in baseball this season, it wasn't exactly a case of Cy-Mays or Cy-Nonameasshat. Didn't really expect to win this one, lets just hope the offense shows up against Bowden tomorrow night.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 08:54 PM) It takes awhile to regain the hitting stroke We don't have 2 to 3 weeks to wait for him to start hitting. The Sox can't afford to have him going 0-4 with 4 popouts to the right side. Also while struggling in the field.
-
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 08:49 PM) 9 hitters on the Sox and we have two hits total and people are complaining about Crede? He's by far the most worrisome hitter in the lineup, he looks absolutely horrible, at least the other 8-9 guys have had some good success of late. Oh and it was his f***up in the field that allowed the first run to score. Just saying.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 08:36 PM) Kalapse, where are you to comment on that weak fly ball by Crede to right field? Screw it, just trade for Huff and put him at 3rd base. His defense will suck, but it's not like it would be worse than Crede this year or Fields next year. 12 ABs since returning from the DL. 1 single 1 strikeout 1 weakass lineout to short 9 weakass outs to the right side (seven of them in the air)
-
Well I'm done for the night. I see no reason to watch the rest of this one.
-
Ugh. This is starting to get worrisome.
-
What the f*** is so great about the human error aspect of baseball? Personally I find it f***ing annoying.
-
QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 08:00 PM) they already did...obama biden 08!vote for obama if nothing else cuz he s a fellow sox fan! If you want to talk politics check out the Filibuster forum. This forum is exclusively for White Sox conversation.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 07:56 PM) Get out of jams? Didn't DJ say that batters are hitting .292 against him with RISP and 2 outs? That's just with 2 outs. The opponents line with 2 out and RISP is .229/.308/.386/.693
-
PULL the f***ing ball Crede!
-
This definitely feels like a playoff game.
-
A couple nasty ass K's right there for Javy. He looks GOOD tonight.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 06:46 PM) Crede just look ridiculous at the plate. Why couldn't he have just stayed on the freaking DL? Now 1-10 w/ a single and a K. He also has 1 official and 1 unofficial error since returning from the DL.
-
Good to see Javy put a hitter away with a pitch off the plate in.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 06:31 PM) What's the solution? Underperforming Fields, Uribe who everyone has apparently absolved after nonstop absolutely hating, or an All-Star? EDIT: yes that last word was meant to madden all, but the point stands. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 06:33 PM) Uribe. Historically he's very good in September. Oh my Jermaine.
