Gordon "Slayer" Beckham Signs for 2.6 Million
Kalapse replied to chisox2334's topic in FutureSox Board
It's a lot harder to find a good SS than a 2B, if Alexei could handle SS then it opens up a whole lot more options for this team next year. If you leave him at 2B then you have to go out and find a starting SS which isn't exactly easy. -

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 12:33 AM) Just another note on the hot athlete topic, Alicia Sacramone does not look nearly as good with her hair down. Google confirms. I tend to disagree. http://www.nbcolympics.com/athletes/athlete=622/bio/ http://teenvogue.typepad.com/photos/uncate...olympics3_2.jpg The one on the first page of Google images could just be a bad pic. -

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 11:00 PM) First off, I was just using FP because we were discussing them as baseball players, not just offense. Secondly, I was using lg-OPS, not OPS, therefore A-Rod is higher. If you're going to reference lgOPS then say you're using that stat, I'm not psychic. If you're going to use defensive metrics to prove a player's worth in the field then at least go with win shares or something with a hint of accuracy, FP is garbage. And Pujols' lgOPS has been higher than A-Rod's for the past 3 seasons and since we're talking about RIGHT NOW and not career accomplishments that would mean Pujols has been the superior hitter. -

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 10:39 PM) It's kind of like comparing Kobe and LeBron- you can't go wrong. Pujols has a better FP yet 1B'men usually make less errors than 3B'men. A-Rod has the better OPS liftetime yet Pujols has the better AVG and OBP. A-Rod obviously has the HR over him, though. Your obsession with fielding percentage is disturbing. Right now A-Rod is a mediocre 3B while Pujols is probably the best 1B in the National League (and it has been said that he plays a mean SS in practice.) Pujols has a 74 point lead in career OPS so you're wrong on that one. Albert Pujols is just an incredible hitter, possibly the best all around hitter I've ever seen. Just take a look at the all-time leaders in career OPS: 1.) Ruth - 1.164 2.) Williams - 1.116 3.) Gehrig - 1.080 4.) Bonds - 1.051 4.) Pujols - 1.043 That's crazy. -

Personally, I think Pujols is better than Alex Rodriguez. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 09:51 PM) That one gymnast on the US (Sacramone, I believe her name is) is the hottest gymnast I can remember. And she's 20 so it's not that creepy. -
QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 06:57 PM) he was pretty good at the beginning of the year, he fell flat on his face right around the beginning of June and has sucked for the most part ever since (outside of his starts against the A's, and ironically KC) And against Texas where he went 7 innings allowed 3 runs and struckout 10.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 06:45 PM) Shapiro wouldn't have a choice. The Red Sox have the better record between the two, so if the good Sox made a claim it would be either a deal with us or no deal at all. The Red Sox offered an organizational player, not a prospect, per Theo Epstein. Byrd would have cost nothing at all yet the Sox didn't even put in a claim. It's probably because KW can't add salary, as there would be no other reason not to add Paul Byrd right now. We have nothing worth noting in the minors. Paul Byrd cleared waivers last week right around the time Contreras was cleared to start on Saturday, meaning at the time the Sox had 5 starters already. He wasn't going to claim a player that he had no room for.
-
If you're Mark Shapiro and you get very similar offers from both the Red Sox and White Sox which team would you rather send Paul Byrd to? Considering the player being dealt, there's not going to be a huge difference between offers if any at all.

I really thought Swisher would be better than this, he's been the most disappointing position player in MY eyes this season. I figured he'd be an .850 OPS, 30 HR guy. I was skeptical about Alexei Ramirez's chances of having any major league success this season, he looked 20 pounds underweight and completely overmatched for the first month and a half or so, I didn't think he had much of a chance of turning it around this year. I wanted him playing everyday at short in Charlotte. I thought Javy would post an ERA under 4, wrong on that one. I'm having trouble thinking of anything else though I'm sure there's something I'm missing.

If anyone hasn't voted yet I suggest you do, Jermaine Dye is in line to become the second back to back POTM leading vote getter of the season. Buehrle needs 3 votes (with someone other than Jermaine getting the other 3) to overtake Jermaine and get himself a month long banner otherwise we probably won't see a new one until September.

After Washburn and Byrd, KW is looking at this list

QUOTE (YASNY @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 01:07 PM) Of all the players you mentioned, Swisher is only one that cost us anything that may prove to be of value from our farm system. Cabrera cost an established ML pitcher. Quenten cost a single A 1b ( who on here wouldn't make that deal again? ). Alexei was a FA pick up, as was Linebrink and Dotel. Griffey cost a couple of guys who didn't cut it in the bigs ... though Griffey ain't cutting it either. Technically Linebrink cost us a 2nd round pick and the Cabrera/Garland deal should be a net gain prospect wise when both hit free agency after this season. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 06:51 PM) It's fairly simple actually...Alexei needs something sexy to spice up his line. In other words, he needs the batting title. Which he still needs to qualify for. In order to qualify he'd have to average 3.1 PA for every game the Sox play this year (162). 3.1 PA per game comes out to 501 total PA over a 162 game season. Alexei currently sits at 331 PA, with 45 team games remaining (not counting the makeup game) Alexei will have to average 3.8 PA per game and play everyday the rest of the way.
-
Even with the injury to Longoria, the 2 will probably finish the year with a similar number of plate appearances seeing as how Alexei didn't play much for the first 2 months of the season and he bats at the bottom of the order. Longoria is sporting an .885 OPS and 22 HRs, he's also an All-Star and a GG candidate, good luck beating that.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 05:10 PM) Move AJ out of the f***ing 2 hole for christ sakes, and you wonder why Quentin doesnt have the RBI's Hamilton has. AJ as a #2 hitter: .281 .306 .399 .705 Cabrera isn't exactly helping matters either with his .269/.327/.352/.679 on the year and .620 OPS since the start of July. It's just not fair, Hamilton gets Kinsler and Young and Quentin gets Cabrera and Pierzynski. Ouch.

Maddux wouldn't come here anyway (he really only wants to play for the Padres or Dodgers) plus he sucks and Washburn would get absolutely destroyed in the Cell with his ultra flyball style.

Who would you give up for another RH reliever?
Kalapse replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Josh Fields, Brian Anderson and Jerry Owens would all have to pass through waivers before being traded. None would make it through. -
Offman said with confidence that Philly will chip in half for his option year.
