QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 12:25 PM) I want to punch Selig in the face. The man is in his 70's but comes off as though he's in his late 80's.
-
Does anyone actually like Steve Phillips or at least feel he's even marginally intelligent? Just once I'd like to hear someone attempt to defend the man.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 12:18 PM) Why exactly are they letting the clock go down. They know who they want to pick. This is dumb. ESPN is in full control of this thing.
-
Dear god I hate Bud Selig, he can't retire soon enough. YOU DON'T NEED A f***ING CLOCK!
-
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 12:03 PM) How fast does the draft usually move? Well with the conference call a pick was made every 8 to 10 second or so. Now that ESPN has taken it over they'll probably allow 5 minutes in between pick. EVEN THOUGH THERE IS NO TRADING OF PICKS ALLOWED! A team doesn't need anymore than 10 seconds to make a selection, that's why they have a f***ing draft board.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 11:33 AM) I was looking over an episode list of The Simpsons and found that the last time the show was even remotely funny was at the beginning of Season 11 which was Oct. of '99, 6 f***ing years ago, that was also 130 episodes ago. Also I'm being extremely lenient with this as well, I think the first maybe 6 episodes of that season were kind of funny. It's sad when a show overstays it's welcome by 6 years and 130 episodes. 3 years later, the show is still on the air and the f***ing movie grossed over $526M in theaters worldwide. What's this world coming to?

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 10:31 PM) Hell ya. Need a huge game from Count tomorrow, as this pen is just about done. Well Jose has gone at least 7 innings in 5 of his last 6 starts including two 8 inning performances so the Sox have the right man going to the bump tomorrow. Also; Alexei was just incredible in the field tonight, big props to him. -
QUOTE (G&T @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 07:35 PM) 518 was the official distance. Actually that's not the case, it was his 518th career homerun. From the way Hawk and DJ are talking here in the 6th the official measurement was under 500 feet but thus far they've yet to give a number. (from what I've heard at least)

He has not stranded 7 of his 15 inherited runners.

Of the 12 runners Masset has inherited this year, 8 have scored.

It just missed that LCD screen on the fan deck.

QUOTE (watchtower41 @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 01:53 PM) There was a thread that was made a stickey for over a month to write him in... I'd love to post the dozen or so other threads about how he's not on the ballot, yada, yada, unfortunately this place doesnt ever have a working search function. What's the use in being a fan? I love baseball, and I love the Sox. I love to watch the Sox win. Everything else becomes secondary. Would I like to see Quentin in the All-Star game, sure, and I realize the kid can do no wrong in White Sox nation right now. It's not like I am bashing CQ. There are bigger fish to fry. Nobody asks the negative poster's about Contreras being washed up or claiming Thome should be released what is the use of them being a fan. If being a baseball fan is all about supporting marketing for your team, then I bought season tickets for the wrong sport. I'm not sure anybody would want to be Brooks right now with all the negative comments coming from the media about our marketing campaign. As fans what fish should we be frying exactly? What resources are we wasting on supporting Quentin's All-Star bid that we could be allocating eleewhere?

QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 11:33 AM) Alexei and Count. With consistent playing time, Ramirez is showing signs of being a productive and exciting player. Count is also showing signs of putting 2007 behind him. Yeah but the question isn't "who played pretty well for the final 2 weeks of May" it's "who was the most productive player for the entire month of May." For as well as Alexei played over the final 15 games of May his line wasn't anything amazing (.308/.327/.481/.808, really good but not crazy productive) meanwhile Quentin was single handedly winning at least 8 games for the Sox over the course of 30 days and greatly exceeding Ramirez's productivity over a much larger timespan.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 11:03 AM) Right. The better question is "Are hitters with a better IsoD generally more productive hitters"? That's sort of where I was going with that. Well if you have 2 players with very similar OBP and SLG numbers but one has a .050 point advantage in batting average, you go with him since a single > a walk. Example 1: Player A: .300/.380/.500/.880 Player B: .250/.380/.500/.880 It's player A all the way. Example 2: Player A: .300/.330/.500/.830 (IsoD = .030) Player B: .260/.370/.500/.870 (IsoD = .110) Now who are you taking?
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 10:52 AM) Well, in most cases, yes. I think that depends on slugging though. I'll take a guy with a .380 OBP and a .320 BA if he slugs over .475 or so versus a guy with a .400 OBP and a .275 BA that slugs the same all day, every day. That's not what I meant. "Better" in terms of plate discipline. The higher the IsoD the "better" that hitter is at drawing walks that doesn't necessarily mean a player with a high IsoD is a more valuable hitter than someone with a low IsoD.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 08:23 AM) What is IdoD? IsoD = Isolated discipline. OBP - AVG = IsoD It shows how heavily weighted a hitter's OBP is by his batting average. The greater the difference between OBP and AVG the better.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 06:55 AM) Ensberg drops off at 32 and it could be PEDs. Another guy goes from a non starter to leading the league in HRs, and that specualtion is wrong. Flawless logic.
-
QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 01:03 AM) Josh Hamilton I assume. Who was the last Negro League player to play in the major leagues? Nope. Think blacker and crazier.
-
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 11:17 PM) I'll go with JD to be different since his numbers are so similar to Carlos' outside of RBI's, which are a bit arbitrary since Carlos cleared the bases by the time JD batted, and the defense for #23 was pretty good last month. As for pitcher, that's a VERY tough choice. I went with el titan de bronze because you can't vote for the ENTIRE bullpen (not just the big 3, although they were the best), plus going 3-1 in a month with our offense is an incredible feat. I can't tell you what he did in just the month of May but for the season Carlos Quentin's "clutch" splits are incredible. For as close as CQ and JD's stats are for the month of May Carlos was getting it done when it meant the most. .360/.469/.660/1.129 in 64 PA w/ RISP .412/.565/.706/1.271 in 23 PA w/ RISP & 2 OUT .371/.463/.743/1.206 in 41 PA Close & Late .361/.451/.770/1.221 in 71 PA during innings 7-9 .385/.468/.923/1.391 in 47 High Leverage PA (+ 6 homeruns) Not really trying to put down Dye, I've just been dying to post CQ's splits. He's been at his absolute best in clutch situations.

Voting will end on Sunday June 8th at 10 PM CT It was a pretty good month for a select few hitters while the pitching was just unreal with 4 starters and 3 relievers earning nominations. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 30, 2008 -> 10:31 AM) Iguchi really looked like he had slowed down. Defensively he had lost a few steps and offensively his bat looked slow. Not to mention the Sox had a guy in Danny Richar that they liked a lot (and to an extent still do). Also, the guy is only hitting .258 on the season, which is about as productive as he was with the Sox last year (he hit .251 with the Sox in 07). However, he did have a nice tenure with the Phils (.300 with an .803 OPS). Bottom line the guy is clearly on the decline. He was also a pending free agent and due to a stipulation in his contract the Sox would not have received any compensatory draft picks had he walked in free agency. Since the Sox were completely out of it at the time they had absolutely nothing to lose when trading iguchi, if Richar fell flat on his face in his short time in the bigs and the Sox felt Iguchi would still be a productive major league ballplayer they could have just re-signed him over the offseason when he filed for free agency. Somehow I doubt Iguchi's current .657 OPS and deteriorating defense would make this team a whole hell of a lot better.
-
QUOTE (stretchstretch @ May 28, 2008 -> 07:38 PM) you have to wonder though after winning the WS with Boston why they immediately traded him off Well for one; they didn't. Boston let him walk in free agency then went out and signed Edgar Renteria (who, on paper at least, was a superior player) to a big money deal. So in his career he's been traded twice, both times in his walk year, first by a s***ty Canadian team with a tiny payroll and second by a team with a couple very good young middle infield prospects and a need for starting pitching.

QUOTE (Nunnigan @ May 28, 2008 -> 01:25 PM) Oh how about.... Sign Quentin to a long-term extension! The risk faaaarrr outweighs the reward with a move like that.
