QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Jan 15, 2008 -> 02:43 PM) If they wore a Sox uniform I loved them. You can't "hate" any Sox or former Sox player. Now if you say "disappointment: that's a different story. Maybe in your twisted mind. Just because Timo wore the silver and black while he stole close to a million dollars from JR and the Share Holders doesn't mean I'm going to hate him any less. Donning a Sox jersey for a couple of games does not make a player impervious to the disdain of the fans.

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jan 14, 2008 -> 05:44 PM) I think KW has one more suprising major move before Soxfest (At least i hope...) and a day or 2 before Soxfest KW will have ALL the new players in the city for a press conference. (Cabrera, Linebrink, Quentin, Swisher, Ramerez, [Colon, Bedard, Roberts?] ) don't.have.the.bullets

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jan 12, 2008 -> 12:54 PM) If this A) helps the Brewers win the NL Central, and B ) helps keep the Cubs out of the playoffs ... Welcome to Milwaukee and the NL, where you will see Jon Rauch this year but not Jim Parque. Mike Cameron has spent the last 4 years of his career in the National League and since hitting that homerun off Rauch 5 years ago he's 0 for 4 against him with 2 Ks.

QUOTE(The Beast @ Jan 12, 2008 -> 12:54 AM) If we cut Uribe in Spring Training, what would we have to pay him? $4.5M He'll either be dealt before the season starts or start the year on the bench as the backup INF, he won't be released.

QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jan 11, 2008 -> 10:58 PM) You sure???........ and fixed. But as far as WCIU finally though. I'm in the minority who loves WCIU because I live in the area, it comes out the most clear on screen, and theres not much screwups you see (CSN, ESPN) on the network. But all in all... good. Except the 10 times a game where they come back late from break and we miss the first pitch or 2 of the inning.

QUOTE(BaseballNick @ Jan 11, 2008 -> 04:09 PM) I can't imagine the award would be given to someone who was "nowhere near the best offensive 3B". Joe hit .283, 30HRs, and knocked in 94. That's not a bad line at all. When you compare it to what guys like Brandon Inge put up, it actually looks pretty damn good. Joe Crede was given the award just to spite Alex Rodriguez who's OPS+ was 27 points higher than Crede's. That's a HUGE difference in productivity. Joe Crede was one of the better offensive 3B in a down year for the position but he was nowhere near the best.
-
QUOTE(BaseballNick @ Jan 11, 2008 -> 02:56 PM) Joe Crede won the Silver Slugger in 2006 and we know what he brings to the table defensively. If Joe is 100% healthy, then he's worth Ervin Santana in a trade. Santana didn't exactly wow anyone last year. Still one of the biggest jokes in MLB award history. Crede was nowhere near the best offensive 3B in the AL in '06.

QUOTE(Whitewashed in '05 @ Jan 9, 2008 -> 04:14 PM) Not that its important, but isn't that list missing some and a little wrong? We shipped Anthony Webster with Rupe and Francisco to Texas in 03. Majew got traded in 04 for Everett the second time. We also traded Alex Fernandez and Humberto Quintero for Jimenez in 02. Not a big deal, but just wanted to note it. There might be more missing. Reifert's list only includes pitching prospects the guys you mentioned are all position players.

It's a f***ing joke that Tim Raines didn't get in. Best leadoff hitter in NL history.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 08:53 PM) You haven't given your take on the trade. I'm curious to see what you think... I love it. Player for player it was a steal. Swisher is my kind of player, high OBP, big power potential, young, versatile and a quality character.

QUOTE(JFields27 @ Jan 5, 2008 -> 02:59 PM) I was just over WSI and some guy posted that his friend heard this on ESPN Radio I just say wow, and would have to let it sink it to get my true feelings about it but from first looks I think i like it, though idk if that leadoff spot was taken care of. Rodriguez isnt ready i dont think either. Per ESPN via imaginary radio.

I did a little research. For 90 of his 150 games played last season Swish had someone other than Jack Cust hitting behind him. Swisher 2nd w/ Piazza 3rd: 2 G Swisher 2nd w/ Kielty 3rd: 3 Swisher 2nd w/ Chavez 3rd: 15 Swisher 2nd w/ Johnson 3rd: 7 Swisher 2nd w/ Bradley 3rd: 2 Swisher 2nd w/ Cust 3rd: 18 Swisher 2nd w/ Stewart 3rd: 2 Swisher 3rd w/ Johnson 4th: 7 Swisher 3rd w/ Bradley 4th: 1 Swisher 3rd w/ Chavez 4th: 18 Swisher 3rd w/ Cust 4th: 42 Swisher 3rd w/ Piazza 4th: 14 Swisher 4th w/ Johnson 5th: 5 Swisher 4th w/ Chavez 5th: 1 Swisher 4th w/ Ellis 5th: 1 Swisher 5th w/ Ellis 6th: 1 Swisher 6th w/ Crosby 7th: 5 Swisher 6th w/ Kielty 7th: 2 Swisher 6th w/ Ellis 7th: 1 Swisher 6th w/ Johnson 7th: 1 Swisher 6th w/ Scutaro 7th: 1 Swisher 6th w/ Hannahan 7th: 1 Times hitting behind Swisher in 2007: Cust: 60 Chavez: 34 Johnson: 20 Piazza: 16 Crosby: 5 Kielty: 5 Ellis: 3 Bradley: 3 Stewart: 2 Scutaro: 1 Hannahan: 1 The Swish/Cust combo was first seen in game #68 but it didn't become a regular occurrence until game #77 but even then they weren't hitting back to back all that often. On August 7th (Game #114) they were matched up almost permanently.

After Swisher's phone dropped him a second time they just sort of ended the interview. About 5 minutes late Swisher called back off the air to apologize, twice.

QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Dec 28, 2007 -> 12:43 PM) I always liked Miguel Olivo also. He is far better defensively than Hall and adequate with the lumber. Plus he isn't coming back from shoulder surgery. Hall was a flop last year Miguel Olivo is a terrible defender.

The White Sox and Alexei Ramírez agree to 4 year deal

QUOTE(BureauEmployee171 @ Dec 21, 2007 -> 11:58 PM) My best estimate is that a 47 would serve a role that player who is no longer with or will not be with the team had. And - it's much more possible Ramirez starts the season in the minor leagues. And I have no fear of what I say - because nothing that I say is libel, nothing is illegal, nothing is against MLB or club policy. I know the difference between important information & information to be given to the public. Would you like me to say that OFP on Ramirez is 75 just to make you feel good? You'll quickly find out the truth & my words won't have much acclaim. Speaking matter of factly is never an issue. Thanks for all the information you've provided. Honestly, before today I really didn't know anything about the guy, it's good to have someone around with your resources and insight to shed a little light on moves like these. -

QUOTE(jenks45monster @ Dec 21, 2007 -> 11:41 PM) Lived up to expectacions yes, became superstars, no. I just think that he won't live up to this superstar attention he is receiving. That's sort of the point if they weren't superstars in Japan then there's no reason to believe they'd suddenly find super stardom over here. Ichiro and Hideki were above average to great players over there and they've been above average to great over here as well. Iguchi was a pretty good player over there, was expected to be about an average offensive player over here and lived up to those expectations. Taguchi and Shinjo were ok starting players over there, expected to be nothing more than role players over here and what do know they lived up to those expectations. If you're going to go by how past Japanese position players have faired in the US when projecting Fukudome's transition to the American game then there's a damn good chance he's going to be a pretty good player over here similarly to how he was over there. Hell I think Shingo lived up to expectations just fine, he was never expected to be a star closer over here but for 1 season he was pretty damn close. He was older and approaching the end of his career, signed a short term, cheap deal with a US team and held his own for a whole season. Look no further than the Dodgers' closer, Saito for an example of a Japanese player who has long exceeded expectations and has become one of the best closers in American Baseball. Just going off the top of my head I can't think of many Japanese players (pitchers or otherwise) that have been busts in the United States. The Japan/US transition has actually worked out rather well. -

QUOTE(jenks45monster @ Dec 21, 2007 -> 11:32 PM) Agreed about Fukudome. He was overpaid but at least 8 mil. IMO. And in the end most Japanese players are no more than decent in the Big Leagues, with the exceptions of Ichiro and Hideki Matsui. Aside form Kaz Matsui how many Japanese star position players have been disappointments in the United States? Guys like So Taguchi and TaYoshi Shinjo were never all that good in Japan, they pretty much lived up to expectations in the US. -
Posting an .872 OPS in your first 166 big league ABs is pretty damn impressive especially when you're 23.

Levine said it was $4.75M TOTAL which does not sound right at all. I'll just assume he misspoke and it's actually 4 years, $19M.
