  1. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 4, 2007 -> 03:01 PM) I think it's pretty clear Rollins is the MVP as is, but when you look at Holliday's Coors Field/away splits, it becomes even more obvious that Rollins should win the award. 2004 HOME: 1.009 OPS, 10 HR, 31 XBH AWAY: .654 OPS, 4 HR, 17 XBH 2005 HOME: 1.002 OPS, 12 HR, 29 XBH AWAY: .729 OPS, 7 HR, 21 XBH 2006 HOME: 1.132 OPS, 22 HR, 48 XBH AWAY: .818 OPS, 12, 36 XBH 2007 HOME: 1.157 OPS, 25 HR, 58 XBH ALSO: 4 HR in 14 ABs (nearly a 2.000 OPS) @ Citizens Bank Park (no more than 1 HR at any other park) AWAY: .860 OPS, 11 HR, 34 XBH So he's a pretty decent offensive player when playing away from Coors/CBP but when hitting at either stadium he becomes a monster. I'll be legitimately upset if this man wins the MVP. Coors is such a joke, a cavernous stadium that plays like a bandbox. Doubles, triples and homeruns galore. If this bothers you then definitely avoid Tulo's splits as well.
  2. I've been updating the list periodically and I believe everything is up to date, if anyone hears any news of re-signings or options being picked up don't hesitate to post it in this thread so I can keep this list as accurate as possible.
  3. Picking up Uribe's $5M option is not the only way to bring him back. You use the $300K buyout then offer him a 1 year deal worth $1.7M + a s*** load of offensive incentives and a $5M-$6M team option for 2009 (along with a $500K buyout). He gets $2.5M guaranteed in the deal with incentives that can add on another $3M and he gets another contract year to prove he's worthwhile long term investment..
  4. Felipe Lopez is not the SS for a World Series team, secondbase maybe but he's one of the worst defensive infielders in the game, not exactly what you're looking for from the #1 or #2 most important defensive position on the field. And again you're then paying $4.5M to a 2B who's coming off a terrible season and doesn't really have a solid history of productive play to fall back on.

I tried opium but it had no effect.
  6. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 12:35 PM) How is he defensively? I really don't know, at this point in his career. I don't mean 5 years ago, I mean now. Top 3-5 in baseball and the best available in free agency IMO.
  7. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 12:23 PM) Andruw Jones will not be coming here... Its between Rowand and Hunter. I say like 60% Rowand and 40% Hunter. I've been reading many articles saying he lives or grew up in Arlington, Texas. And with the Rangers trading Texeira they have pleanty of money to spend. Now if Hunter wants to take less and play in a field he is most comfortable, he will likely pick the White Sox. Rowand - 30% Owens - 30% Hunter - 20% Jones - 8% Cameron - 7% Patterson - 4% Erstad - 1% And there will be no discounts.
  8. Felipe Lopez is going to make somewhere between $4.1M-$4.5M next year and will be a free agent at seasons end.
  9. He only has 4 years of service time so he has 2 arbitration eligible years remaining.
  10. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 11:01 AM) Andruw Jones. pfffft. Who cares? Let's stick to the real headliner free agents... I mean, Ross Gload is available, for crying out loud! Get it done KW! No he isn't.
  11. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Sep 20, 2007 -> 04:25 PM) Contreras will be back in 2008. Most GMs will be calling about Garland since he much younger. Im guessing it will be Buerhle, Vazquez, ?, Contreras, Floyd. I really think Danks will benefit after a season in triple-a. I expect KW to go after a decent #3 via free agency... maybe take a chance on Schilling, Rogers, Colon or even bring back Garcia to a 1 year deal w/ a club option. Danks will be our call-up starter just like McCarthy was in 2005 as El-duque was often injured. Its definitley encouraging to see Contreras pitch well these last 4 games. There are no #3 starters available in free agency. There's a bunch of 5's, a group of 30 somethings coming off serious injuries and a couple 40 somethings who are old or hurt. Colon is no where near a #3 anymore. He's started a total of 27 games the past 2 seasons with a combined ERA over 6. Rogers will be 43 and coming off a season where he made only 9 starts. It's probably time to call it quits. f*** Curt Schilling. Garcia just had surgery to repair a torn labrum and won't be back until August of next season. The Sox had better not be looking to free agency in order to fill major holes in the rotation, there's NOTHING out there this year.
  12. Updated standings: W L LB GB Tampa Bay 63 90 -- -- #1 Baltimore 65 87 3 2.5 #2 Chicago Sox 66 87 3 3 #3 Florida 66 87 3 3 Pittsburgh 66 87 3 3 Kansas City 66 86 4 3.5 #6 Houston 67 86 4 4 #7 San Francisco 67 86 4 4 Washington 68 85 5 5 #9 Cincinnati 70 83 7 7 #10 Texas 70 83 7 7
  13. And Floyds mental issues are no where near as severe as Greinke's. Didn't he miss most all of last season after having a mental breakdown?
  14. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 19, 2007 -> 11:10 PM) But what if others have made stupid decisions in front of you. SAM BOWIE! HAKEEM OLAJUWON!
  15. Here's my brand of "logic and reason": With the top pick you can take whoever you want, no limitations at all. With the #9 pick you can take anyone you want except the 8 players who were drafted before your turn to choose. So with the top pick you have unlimited flexibility but with any pick after that you're limited in your choices more and more. IMO having greater flexibility in the selection of talent is an outstanding card to hold. Being handcuffed is not fun.
  16. QUOTE(michelangelosmonkey @ Sep 19, 2007 -> 10:54 PM) Just so I understand...it's evidence that bothers you? Facts are boring? The same evidence over and over again that means nothing to me. Yes. I personally love the idea of the Sox being able to choose WHOEVER THEY WANT, they can take ANYONE. Past trends be damned. If KW wants he can take the guy who is considered the top rated prospect in the draft or the 13th but by golly he'll get his man because the Sox have the #1 pick. And that makes me happy. There's also like 10 other reasons I have for wanting the top pick, if you'd like you can go through the 30 other game threads this has been discussed in as well as the catch all thread and the 48 other random threads that contain these same arguments, I'm sure you'll find my thoughts on the matter in there somewhere.
  17. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 19, 2007 -> 10:43 PM) It's boring to you because you or somebody else often states glee in the Sox losing and I cannot stand on letting the comment go by, especially on a White Sox Website where people understandably in my mind should want the team to win. I notice there are never any new threads on here anymore. It's all about the draft. A one-day draft in June in which the Sox will draft some name we will not hear from for at least 2-3 years if at all. I figured it out. You're an instant gratification sort of guy, if you're not getting the payoff RIGHT NOW you don't want it at all. I bet if I offered you a choice: 1.) you get 20 bucks right now or 2.) I'll give you $120 in June of next year you'd take the 20 now. Since the draft is 8 months away and any draft pick would take at least 2 years to develop in the minors you just don't want to think about it, you'd rather have the payoff of a win during a few meaningless games over the stretch run of a terrible baseball season even though a few losses RIGHT NOW could pay off 3 years from now. And when I talk about the boring aspect of these debates I'm mainly bothered by the constant listing of past draft picks, it gets old. We've all seen the names and we don't f***ing care. Just because you throw the names Bullington, Bush, Smoltz and Buehrle out there ever 30 minutes doesn't mean anyone's opinion is going to change.
  18. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 19, 2007 -> 10:41 PM) One pick -- and no way that pick will sign until the deadline day if at all -- is not worth all this in my opinion. Why do you keep saying this? Apparently you've done some research. When was the last time the Sox had a top 10 pick go unsigned? How often do their 1st round picks go unsigned? When was the last time a #1 overall pick went unsigned? How often does that happen? Do you even know what happens to the draft pick if it goes unsigned?
  19. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 19, 2007 -> 10:39 PM) I'm just pointing out that you guys have the radical position on this issue, not me. It depends on what kind of person you're asking. You cited sports radio hosts and random ass fans, it doesn't surprise me one bit which side of the issue they'd come out on.
  20. It never fails. A new day, a new game thread, exact same arguments, exact same points being made on both sides and exact same people standing on each side of the issue. Dear god this is getting old and oh so boring.
  21. Now Sports Radio Shows (the lowest form of entertainment known to man) is the ultimate judge in this matter? Yes, this makes sense. How 'bout I call into ANY Chicago sports radio show and start asking them questions about Ehren Wasserman, Jack Egbert, Oneli Perez and Chris Carter? Players who will be contributing to the success of the White Sox starting in 2008 and beyond, they won't have a clue who any of them are. Believe it or not, these sports radio hosts don't put a whole hell of a lot of time into research, it's not all that important to them and more often than not these hosts are just f***ing idiots.
  22. QUOTE(SEALgep @ Sep 19, 2007 -> 10:18 PM) Left center #500 You sir, are a liar.
  23. All he does is pull the ball, he's lost that good oppo power stroke when was the last time he hit a HR to left field? Jim will get to 34 just as long as the final 10 games are all blowouts, if the game is close and Thome comes to the plate . . . forget about it, he'll K every time.
