  1. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 09:21 PM) I say let's get Reggie Sanders. The guy has a good season every other year, and he's due for a good year this season. He's 39, has major injury concerns and makes $5M this year. Fun.
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 09:13 PM) I think we have more blown saves already this year than we did throughout 2005. The pitching of this current team is no where near as good as the '05 team. It's not even close.
  3. QUOTE(Vance Law @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 04:08 PM) just like in 2005 Yes because this team is so comparable to '05. If the Sox could find someone to put up 23 HR and 84 RBI to fill the DH role like Everett did in '05 I would feel a whole lot better. Unfortunately Ryan Sweeney and Alex Cintron are not that guy so we'll have to settle for either having the worst outfield in baseball with Mackowiak/Erstad/Sweeney and Dye DHing or settle for a .480 OPS out of the DH until Thome is back.
  4. QUOTE(ScottyDo @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 01:26 AM) Ahhh, the voice of reason! Seriously, we're in 2nd place in the hardest division in baseball with virtually NO offensive production. I think we'll do alright without Thome for a little while, especially if any one of our boppers breaks out of it. Thome has been good so far but it hasn't translated into much production yet we're winning games regardless. Now if Thome is out for more than a month or two (which hasn't even been insinuated), then we might have a problem but I still don't think it would be cause to forfeit the season. That's probably why most all of the posts you see contain the phrase or implied ideal of "extended period of time." I don't think anyone believes 2 weeks without Thome would kill the Sox but 1-2 months on the DL followed by lingering soreness and muscle tweaks could very well cause this team to tank.
  5. QUOTE(CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 11:24 PM) Pay for the MLB extra innings on DirecTV . That will solve all your problems. Not if he gets CSN. All Sox games will be blacked out on Extra Innings.
  6. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 11:09 PM) Anyone (Kalapse) know Erstad's numbers since April 20th? 11h/31ab | 4 R | 4 2B | 0 HR | 6 RBI | 2 BB | 4 K | 1 SB | 1 CS | .355/.394/.484/.878
  7. Per the blog: Erstad, LF; Iguchi, 2B; Thome, DH; PK, 1B; Dye, RF; AJ, C; Crede, 3B; Mack, LF; Uribe, SS. What the f*** is going on here? Thome DHing, Dye in RF and 2 guys in left. It's madness. So Thome is healthy afterall?
  8. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 02:59 PM) Just do us a favor on this one though, please don't Simpsons it. If you don't like it, that's cool--but don't remind us a billion times. I'm liking this season, and it's still my favorite show. The only reason the Simpsons bother me so much is because they jumped the shark like 8 years ago and are just dragging it out at this point, it doesn't make a whole hell of a lot of sense to me. The sad thing is it's getting into Simpsons territory with the goofiness but I'll spare you any over the top b****ing especially since I don't think it's hit rock bottom yet. I don't really get how you could like some of these episodes after seeing the first 5 seasons though, it's turned into a completely different show. One more thing that's bothering me then I'll go away, when exactly is J.D. coming out of the closet? He's gotten so incredibly gay that I refuse to believe he's hetero. Atleast I have about 4 or 5 really solid episodes from this season to hang my hat on, that good comedy is still in there somewhere. And I've bitten my tongue the past few weeks because I don't want to get overly b****y about the show, I still have some hope that they can turn it around.
  9. .364/.444/.584/1.028 4 HR, 11 RBI, 11 BB, 14 SO, 169 OPS+
  10. They're not going to trade Anderson right now while he's probably the 2nd worst hitter in baseball ('stavo being #1) and having trouble getting along with the manager of the team, his trade value is at 0 right now. If anything he's sent down in order to raise his trade value a bit if he can put together some sustained success at Charlotte.
  11. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 02:12 PM) Dye to DH, Sweeney to RF. I don't see Kenny making a move for a bat unless Thome is shelved for something like... 8 months. Hello 4th place.
  12. QUOTE(Brian @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 02:08 PM) I laughed out loud at Kelso running out after Turk introduced him. And yes, Elliot has great cleavage. I find myself cringing a whole lot more than laughing now-a-days. I think the show has officially reached the designation of "flat-out stupid".
  13. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 02:05 PM) Yes, you'd hear some names thrown out in the press, but simply consider this...with that gigantic of a production loss, who would be available that we'd even have a shot at? And beyond that, how much do you give up? Say hypothetically I found someone who would give me a player who could put up the same production Carl Everett gave the Sox in 05 out of the DH slot, but it was going to cost a major pitcher to pull it off. Along the lines of Gio, or maybe a couple of lesser guys instead. Is it really going to be worth trading away all of that depth we just built in our minor leagues for an in-between guy, which is probably all that will be available unless the Braves tank? If the market is that weak to where the best available bat is a well below average offensive player then I guess you go out there with your best possible in-house options and pray that if the team does tank they tank hard so the soon-to-be free agents can be dealt at the deadline for young pieces. Losing Jim Thome is basically a worst case scenario for this offense.
  14. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 01:53 PM) Can someone name me a bat at the level of anything remotely close to Mr. Thome which might actually be available on the trade market? Hell, if it comes down to Thome being gone for a long time, the biggest bat available on the trade market could well be Jermaine Dye. It would be impossible to fully replace Thome's offensive production but something would need to be done. At this point in the season it's not widely known who is available exactly but I'm sure if Thome did hit the DL we'd hear some names thrown out there in the press.
  15. To add some actual discussion to this, if Thome does hit the DL with a rather serious muscle pull I fully expect a move to be made, there are no position players in AAA with a .700 OPS right now so expecting any of them to come up and produce at even a mediocre rate is probably asking a bit much. Dye would probably be moved to the DH spot considering his age, defensive abilities and injury concerns (that's if he's healthy of course). That would make the outfield Ozuna - Erstad - Mackowiak, quite possibly the worst in baseball. Considering an abdominal strain could linger throughout the year especially with Thome's violent swing a bat would probably need to be brought in to make up for the loss.
  16. If Thome is out for any extended period of time this team is pretty f***ed.
  17. QUOTE(Balance @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 11:52 AM) Keri Russell is OK. Last night's episode was similarly OK. Yeah, this. I'm starting to think it's over, there was a nice 5 year run there though.
  18. Isn't there anything else to talk about? The fact that there have been about 30 threads started on the subject of Erstad/Anderson is actually pretty sad. Anderson just looks terrible and at this point I'm not even sure he's as good a player as Erstad. The whole subject is just tired and played out. The biggest tragedy involving the outfield is that KW refused to upgrade it this offseason instead going with 2 players who are incredibly similar to each other, one being 8 years older and incredibly injury prone, the other has attitude problems and appears to be a terrible offensive player incapable of making any sort of adjustments at the plate. Then you have the below average insanely oft-injured LF/leadoff hitter to finish of a trifecta of crap.
  19. Just another reason to hate Michael Vick. That whole family appears to be pretty f***ed up.
  20. QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Apr 26, 2007 -> 03:51 PM) the title of the thread says day/night doubleheader scheduled, but I havent seen this anywhere. On whitesox.com it stated that the two teams have yet to determine a make-up date. Is it actually possible they try to run this back tomorrow?? That would certainly be a nice afternooon/evening. There will be a day night double header on July 24th.
  21. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 26, 2007 -> 03:19 PM) Definitely not. Neither will PK, Pierzynski, or Erstad. Crede will not make the game tonight also MacDougal and Aardsma are also unavailable out of the pen
  22. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 26, 2007 -> 03:00 PM) we have ONE win against a LHP (gooble) from what i heard. L - Sabathia GAME #1 W - Sowers GAME #3 L - Santana GAME #5 W - Kennedy GAME #8 L - Sabathia GAME #11 W - Robertson GAME #16 Key being games STARTED by a lefty. 3-3
  23. QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 26, 2007 -> 11:52 AM) Maybe if anyone cared enough to even worry about it. A-Rod and Thome put up some sweet numbers that week. Mark with a one hitter probably would not have won. I'm just surprised it is his first weekly honor. AROD: 27 AB, 5 HR, 13 RBI, .370/.393/1.000/1.393 Thome: 11 AB, 3 HR, 4 RBI, 15 BB, 1 SO, .455/.741/1.273/2.014
