Broncos Darrent Williams
Kalapse replied to LowerCaseRepublican's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
http://www.profootballtalk.com/rumormill.htm QUOTE(profootballtalk.com @ Jan 1, 2007 -> 06:10 PM) WILLIAMS DIED IN JAVON WALKER'S LAP A league source tells us that the current talk in team circles is that Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams expired in the lap of receiver Javon Walker after being shot early Monday morning in a limousine. Williams, we're told, expired instantly. Also in the limousine were linebacker D.J. Williams and receiver Brandon Marshall. Two others who were riding in the vehicle with the Broncos players were shot, but Walker, D.J. Williams, and Marshall were not injured. Initially, it was feared that Walker also had been shot, but it was determined that the blood on his clothing was from Williams. (We really couldn't think of a more delicate way to report that specific fact, and we continue to feel nauseous about the entire ordeal. We've heard good things about Darrent Williams from members of the media, and our thoughts are with his family.) We're told that local police have strong leads as to the suspects, and that arrests are expected to come sooner rather than later. Apparently, the bullets were fired by a group of men with whom the Broncos players had squabbled at a New Year's Eve party hosted by one or more members of the Denver Nuggets. -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 1, 2007 -> 09:56 PM) I'm pretty sure I've read a couple different stories about the team putting Anderson in a dress, but that was basically because he was a rookie. And then there's Buehrle and his legendary shaving cream pies... He was dead sexy in that ASU cheerleader's outfit.

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Dec 31, 2006 -> 06:06 PM) Someone wanna tell me how that's an incomplete pass in the Denver/San Francisco game? Because this is some of the worst officiating I've ever seen.
-
So who is going to get the largest contract out of that Free Agent class? Johan Santana or Miguel Cabrera?
-
Milledge has been available ever since he pissed off the Mets veterans and coaching staff.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 31, 2006 -> 01:09 AM) If the team comes out and wins, all the complaints will vanish. That won't keep people from sending JR death threats up until April 2nd.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 31, 2006 -> 01:02 AM) I wanted to pull my hair out with the call about the payroll and the Royals, and even Rongey gave him the $104 number, and he came back about the money we get back from Javy and Thome. How these dolts get on the air is beyond me. That was pretty funny actually, Rongey told him the Sox' payroll was at $104 then he countered by saying with the money from Arizona ($2M but he doesn't know that) and the money from Philly ($5.5M but he doesn't know that either) the Sox payroll is about $85M which is incorrect. Though $85M is quite respectable and closer to the mets than the Royals, the payroll would actually be $96.5M when factoring in Thome/Javy money.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 31, 2006 -> 12:48 AM) Except to alot of people, it is. Wite is 100% right. I drove down to Grandstand today, and on the way I made the mistake of listening to White Sox Weekly or whatever it's called. I don't want to come off as a White Sox snob, but holy s*** people are dumb. Half the calls were about how JR should sell the team, he is too cheap, the payroll sucks and he closed "the window" too soon. Imagine if they were to trade Buerhle... You have to think about the casual fan. There are way more of them then guys(and girls) that roam these message boards that can be considered "die-hards" I caught a few minutes of that trash on my way to work this morning, I was embarrassed to be a Sox fan honestly. I love the fans that b**** about cutting payroll saying that JR has and always will be a cheap bastard, these are the same people who have no clue where the Sox finished in total team payroll last season (#4, right behind LAA.) Rongey is bad enough on his own but when you mix in a good amount of baseball retards it gets to the point where I want to rip my stereo out of my f***ing car and chuck it out the window. According to one caller the White Sox payroll next season will be closer to the Royals' than the Mets' because Reinsdorf hates the fans. The Sox had a higher team payroll than the Mets last year by the way. I still don't understand the absolute obsession with the magical 'PAYROLL NUMBER'. All these 'fans' want the Sox to spend $120M next year and add on every year after that, I don't give a s*** how much the team spends just as long as money doesn't get in the way of keeping this team in WS contention I'm happy. Why spend money just to spend money? Seems a bit pointless to me. I'm convinced that if Buehrle is dealt JR/KW will have attempts made on their lives.

Notes from Phil Rogers' Sunday Tribune Column
Kalapse replied to Al Lopez's Ghost's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(SEALgep @ Dec 30, 2006 -> 04:27 PM) That's cool, more depth. Decent backup in case Gooch were ever to be injured. The Sox did not sign Eric Young they signed Ernie Young. Eric is the infielder who played for the Cubs, Ernie is the 36 year old career minor leaguer who played for Charlotte last year. -
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 29, 2006 -> 08:04 PM) Care to explain. Not that I'm trying to sound like a smartass, I'm just bored so I got the time to read a well thought out post. It's the one thing I've heard consistently from people around the Sox organization, that KW and Ozzie aren't exactly big fans of Miguel these days. They were enamored with him following his Oakland days but have soured on him to the point where KW doesn't want Tejada in his clubhouse and Ozzie doesn't want to coach him.
-
QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Dec 29, 2006 -> 07:32 PM) And somebody will tell you real soon that Tejada will NEVER play for the Sox. It'll never happen, this is basically the only thing I'm certain of as a Sox fan anymore.
-
QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Dec 29, 2006 -> 01:55 PM) We can probably get Baldelli for Broadway and Haegar. TB wants pitching and with all the moves KW made we have enough to spare. Like most of you on here I would keep Anderson as a 4th OF as there will likely be a great chance that Baldelli gets hurt or Pods sucks ass again. KW often did this with Rowand, replacing him and making him that 4th OFer. I like Baldelli, he is that Grinder type that KW and Ozzie obsess about, not only is he a great defender, but he is also a solid hitter and he would round out our lineup very well. Go for it K-dub Some time in the New Year I'm going to put together a little essay for everyone on 'Player Value' just so I don't have to read such things anymore.
-
QUOTE(greg775 @ Dec 29, 2006 -> 01:23 AM) The Trib columnist was saying BMac was a good quote and had a head on his shoulders and wasn't afraid to speak his mind. Probably pissed off KW. I was not a big BMac fan but resigned myself to the fact he was gonna get his shot next year after the trade of Freddie. Once we dealt Freddie, BMac should have been given his shot. If McCarthy's talking pissed anyone off it was Ozzie.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Dec 28, 2006 -> 06:55 PM) hmm, career stats say... no I think I've made it pretty clear over the years that I'm not the biggest Buehrle fan around these parts but with that said I'd take Buehrle over Zito if given a choice between the 2. Just watching 15-20 of Zito's starts per year for the last 3 seasons or so I just don't like what I see and his peripherals back that up. He's never come close to matching the numbers he put up in his cy young season.

QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Dec 28, 2006 -> 04:19 PM) Why do you say that with such certainty? Mulder DID grow up a Sox fan, and he wouldn't be the first person in recent years to turn down more money from the Rangers to play for the White Sox (Dye). Lets say Mulder has a 2 year $12M offer on the table from the Cardinals, what kind of discount do you suppose he would accept to come to Chicago? An equal offer of $12M or maybe $10M? If he would accept a 2 year $12M deal from the Sox why the hell would they do that? Why would the Sox want to pay Mulder $4M in '07 to play 3 months and $8M in '08 to such a huge question mark?

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Dec 28, 2006 -> 05:01 PM) Garland is a FA in 2 years, Contreras as well. The Sox will have to sign someone long-term unless they want to go extremely young and unproven. I highly doubt they will resign Conteras being that he'll probably be 48 in 2009. Garland or Buehrle are the obvious choices, unless the young talent (Floyd, Haeger, Sisco, Gonzalez, Broadway, etc.) progress much faster than expected. The Sox were also a team that wasn't going to trade away 2007 talent. The market changed that. The market will change the Sox thinking on long-term deals for SP or else the Sox wont be able to contend for a while. So you honestly believe the Sox would be willing to shell out 6 years (even though they refuse to go any higher than 3 years with pitchers) and $100M+ to Buehrle? Given the organizations history of giving out contracts and their continued stance on pitching contracts I don't see how anyone could believe Buehrle will be retained beyond '07. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Dec 28, 2006 -> 05:04 PM) Is there ANYTHING to suggest that the White Sox are actively attempting to pick up Roger Clemens? I mean, it's all well and good for you guys to say, "I'd love to have Roger," or "It's dependent on picking up Clemens," but are the wheels even turning on that? Clemens' name has not come up in any substantial rumors this offseason. He will not be pitching for the Sox next year it's really as simple as that.
-
QUOTE(NCsoxfan @ Dec 28, 2006 -> 01:49 PM) He also wouldn't be the first to successfully come back from surgery. Yeah, no s***. Now would you pay him $1.67M a month over the next 2 years? Sounds like a waste of money to me.
-
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Dec 28, 2006 -> 01:47 PM) Cintron is Uribe with little power, a bit more speed but very little glove. No way is he considered for the spot of SS over Uribe unless he's in a Dominican prison. Why yes, I did plagiarize off of Kalapse. You forgot the consistently higher batting average but other than that you hit the nail on the head.

MARK MULDER WILL NOT SIGN FOR ANYTHING LESS THAN $14M OVER 2 YEARS, HE'S NOT GOING TO TURN DOWN ~$12M OF GUARANTEED MONEY FROM THE RANGERS/CARDINALS JUST TO PLAY FOR THE SOX. $14M over 2 IS INCREDIBLY EXPENSIVE FOR A PLAYER WHO'S AS BIG OF A QUESTION MARK AS MULDER IS. QUOTE(NCsoxfan @ Dec 28, 2006 -> 12:37 PM) He is only 29, and wont turn 30 until August... And people are saying he is washed up!! He wouldn't be the first pitcher to break down completely in his late 20's.
-
QUOTE(IowaSoxFan @ Dec 27, 2006 -> 10:00 PM) In the current market, that ends up being pretty cheap. See Gil Meche - Ted Lilly No it's not cheap, not even when compared to those 2.
-
QUOTE(NCsoxfan @ Dec 27, 2006 -> 08:59 PM) Regardless of how adamant you are against Mulder there is no denying that he has a chance to return to his form while he was with Oakland. All this at a RELATIVELY cheap price, while costing us zero prospects. Everyone has their own opinions, but it seems well worth the risk. Some pitchers do come back and return to form - it is not unheard of. Seeing how the Cardinals and Rangers are offering somewhere in the neighborhood of $12M-$14M over 2 years the Sox would probably have to go to $15M just to get him interested. That's what? $15M for 9 months (at the most) of Mark Mulder. That would mean paying him about $5M in '07 and $10M in '08? How is that cheap? That's an insane gamble for someone as questionable as Mulder. You can say he's cheap over and over until you actually break the money down.

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Dec 27, 2006 -> 07:26 PM) Anybody get that website to work at the end of beautox's last video? I'm interested to see it, but can't get it to come up. http://spazout.com/roomba/
-
QUOTE(greg775 @ Dec 27, 2006 -> 08:48 PM) If Cintron had 10 stolen bases in limited duty, couldn't he add some speed to the lineup if our regular ss? Dump Juan. You can post it as much as you want but the only way Juan Uribe isn't the starting SS next year is if he's in a Dominican prison.
-
QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Dec 27, 2006 -> 04:13 PM) yup, hopefully he has a good year for us then its like thanks a lot for everything and let him walk. sign michael young, thats what we need to do. Michael Young isn't much of a SS right now and will only get worse with time, I really don't see him as being a long term solution at SS for the Sox so if they did go out and sign him after this season (which I really don't see happening) they'd still need to find someone to play SS while Young takes over for Iguchi at 2B.
