  1. For whatever reason I really don't think this signifies an iminent trade nor do I believe there's anyone else in the minors besides Tracey and Montero who would be trusted in mopup duty even.
  2. So does this mark the return of Sean Tracey or are we going to play the Montero game again?
  3. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 05:08 PM) As much as I wanted this to happen, it still saddens me. He was so integral to last year's run, and he was a class act while trying to get through this year. It's sad to see him go. Good luck wherever you go, Cliff. Could not agree more. Clifford never blaimed anyone else for his struggles and refused to make excuses. I'll never forget his spectacular 2005 campaign and his remarkable standing backflips.
  4. per the Score Cliff Politte's career as a pitcher for the Chicago White Sox is over.
  5. QUOTE(Frank the Tank 35 @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 04:44 PM) Some person over at the mlb board said Politte just got DFA'ed. http://www.forums.mlb.com/n/mb/message.asp...g=65653.1&ctx=0 ...so hopefully the polecat will be the first to be traded. There's a reason why most people don't bother reading the MLB boards. News of a Clifford DFA would not surprise me one bit but this is about as unreliable of a source as you're going to find.
  6. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 04:47 PM) i guess kalapse was right all along How many times has this phrase been repeated on Soxtalk? 60-70 times? When will you people learn?
  7. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 04:22 PM) Fine, I'm annoyed enough to say it. Think the Mets would do Milledge, Heilman, and Sanchez for Buehrle? you did not just go there
  8. Fruit on the bottom . . . hope on top.
  9. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 02:59 PM) I'm not sure about that last part, but much of this staff really did pitch over it's head last season. Garland was an All-Star, Contreras was nearly unhittable from August-October, B-Mac had a very good rookie campaign, Hermanson was a stud closer, Politte was a rock-solid setup man, Freddy had his best year since '01, and Mark had arguably his best season ever. Mark's a cokehead? Dude, nobody is above becoming a drug addict.
  10. Perhaps Mark Buehrle is following the career path of Dwight Gooden afterall.
  11. QUOTE(Contreras @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 09:59 AM) If we're going to be asses and call it an undefeated streak, it's a lot longer than 17. What is it? 25? 26? Something like that? No, it would be 17. What exactly do you think this streak has been? The last time he lost a game was 17 starts ago, he's had a bunch of wins and no decisions since then but did not lose a game. That my friend is an undefeated streak not a win streak. But I guess I'm just an ass for wording it properly.
  12. Can someone define the word "Ozzieball" for me? Thanks.
  13. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 02:24 AM) Isn't Bittner originally a Sox castaway (part of the Scho deal) and IIRC we recently picked him up as a FA. In fact I think the Angels were pretty high right after they acquired Bittner (if I'm thinking of the right guy, we send him, Scott Dunn and maybe someone else). You are correct I think we drafted him somwhere around the 10th round in '01 he Gary Glover and Dunn (whom I believe is sucking ass in Tampa's pen currently) netted us Shoeny. I was surprised to see we picked him back up for the simple fact that he's only like 25 years old still and I know the Angels really liked him at one point in time.
  14. The odd thing about Sandy Alomar, the guy has had 59 PAs this year and has not walked even once.
  15. So when the hell did we acquire Tim Bittner? Yet another Angels castaway.
  16. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 01:55 AM) Actually, that usually means he's gone in the near future. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 01:56 AM) That mean's he's gone, in all honesty. I'm well aware of the scary past connection players have had to the player rep label (Shoenweiss we hardly new ye). I'm trying to think positively here guys.
  17. QUOTE(greg775 @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 01:46 AM) But it's still a catch 22. Why can't the guy Ozzie brings in from the bullpen get the job done? If the player (pitcher) comes through, we're not talking about this. It's about putting your players in the best position possible to be successful and IMO Guillen did not do that today.
  18. QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 12:50 AM) I prefer Undefeated Streak if you're going to pick on the "Win Streak" naming. There we go, that's the perfect one and of course I left it out.
  19. This product that was on TV was available for four easy payments of $19.95. I would like a product that was available for three easy payments and one complicated payment. We can't tell you which payment it is, but one of these payments is going to be hard. The depressing thing about tennis is that no matter how much I play, I'll never be as good a a wall. I played a wall once. They're relentless.
  20. Well he is the Sox' player rep so he's uh, got that uh, goin' for em I guess.
  21. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 11:13 PM) Yeah, that's it, all right. Had nothing to do with wanting to know the answer to the question because I didn't find it elsewhere. :rolly 15 day DL. Teams don't generally place players on the 60 unless the guy is going to be to out for a few months for sure and they are in desperate need of an extra spot on their 40 man roster.
  22. Win Streak Non-Losing Streak. Lossless Streak. Win/ND Streak. Non-Loss Streak.
  23. QUOTE(greg775 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 11:01 PM) I'm saying the big picture is more important than "game strategy." You think if we examined Cox's games we couldn't find screw ups aplenty? The players like playing for Oz apparently and his enthusiasm is a big reason we kicked ass last year and if not for Detroit would have nothing to complain about yet this year despite a team that has a weak bullpen (except for Bobby) and some everyday personnel problems (no bat in cf; starting pitching being good, not great this year). I would take Oz over Cox. The only guy I might want instead of Oz is Piniella and like any manager he doesn't win when he doesn't have talent either. Is it too much to ask of Ozzie for him to simply learn from his mistakes? He seems to love to overmanage the pitching staff, no matter what Hawk says and tonight was another example of it. Either you pull Contreras after 7 solid innings of work or you let him pitch the 8th, it makes no sense to pull him after he allows a leadoff single. If you're going to use Brandon McCarthy then use him, he's not a friggin' ROOGY though his 1.08 WHIP and .194 BAA vs lefties is pretty bad I guess. Ozzie out smarted himself today, it's something he seems to do quite frequently.
  24. QUOTE(My Dixie Normus @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 10:50 PM) That is incredible. Pete Rose and Ty Cobb would have been fined for every game they ever played in. Who the hell is Bob Watson anyway? Did he ever play baseball? Actually he played 19 very unspectacular seasons in the bigs mainly as a 1B, his major claim to fame was scoring baseball's 1 millionth run in 1975. He became the first black GM in baseball history when he was named GM of the Astros in '93, he also won a World Series as the GM of the Yanks in '96. He now serves as Major League Baseball's vice president in charge of discipline and vice president of rules and on-field operations.
  25. QUOTE(greg775 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 10:51 PM) Bobby Cox is so old our players would lose games out of boredom just looking at that guy. That's some excellent analysis. He'd also pull Podsednik for jogging to ball hit in front of him like he's done to Andruw Jones and other players througout the years.
