QUOTE(Wedge @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 02:27 PM) How much was Paul worth before the postseason? I don't see why a great postseason should inflate anybody's value significantly. I'd say Paul's worth about $11-12 million/year to this team, especially considering the "new, steroids-free" landscape of MLB. That said, our pitching is our strength. I think for that kind of money, we can replace Konerko's production, if not his leadership/intangibles. See: Carlos Beltran

Rumor: AL Playoff OF tests positive for steroids

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 02:12 PM) Scott had an excellent post season. He loves swinging through high heaters though, that's his swinging strike out pitch I guess you could say. EDIT: I'm just saying he had a very good post season, I dont want this post to look like I'm saying he's on roids cause in no way do I believe that. You think Pods is on roids?!?! -
QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 01:54 PM) If Paulie leaves, what would we need to give up to get Mike Sweeney? That would be sweet IMHO....yes he has injury issues, but man if Frank came back at DH.... Pods Guch Frank Sweeney Dye Rowand AJP Crede Uribe SWEET FOCKING 3,4,5 for the table setters. What kind of prospects would something like that require? I would not mind giving up pitching prospects too for a Sweeney....thoughts? The Royals already turned down a Casey Kotchman for Mike Sweeney trade earlier this year. We have no position players in our system equal to Kotchman. Also Sweeney is in our division, so I highly doubt they trade him to the Sox. Sweeney can't stay healthy for a full season anyway, not to mention the fact that he's a liability at 1B and he's going to make $12.5M next year, f*** THAT. NO to Sweeney.

QUOTE(chisox72 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 01:35 PM) Hell no. Sheffield, while he may still be "somewhat" productive is an asshat. And in no comparison to AJ or Carl. While they might have both had reputations with very little real demonstration, Sheff has demonstrated it on more than one occasion. Be it in the media, with the fans, or just his demeanor. In a word, NO. Keep this jackass as far away from our team as is possible. Yes I agree, 34HR, 123RBI, 104R, 10SB and .291/.379/.512/.891, is f***ing pathetic. If that's "somewhat" productive I can't imagine what you would call productive.

You can find playoff pictures here.

QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 01:01 PM) Oh no, not the best right-handed hitter in baseball! Dear god no! This ain't happening due to cost, though. Albert Pujols >> Manny Ramirez

QUOTE(knightni @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 01:02 AM) Because The Count is "33". There's NO WAY that he is only one year older than me. He's gotta be near 40 like El Duque. El Duque is atleast 45 years old. No way in hell is that dude only 36. I'd say Contreras is around where they say El Duque is, 36yo.

Well if Pods hits all of next year like he did this postseason he'll hit 27 HRs, also if we resign Pauly and he does the same as Pods, he'll end up with 68 HRs next season. Not to mention Crede will hit 54 and AJ will go yard 41 times next season. That's 190 HRs from 4 hitters in the Sox lineup.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 12:49 AM) Let's just hope Joe sees the light and does what Uribe did last off-season. Dump Scot Boras then immediately sign a 3 year deal at a very reasonable price? Never.

QUOTE(knightni @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 12:40 AM) Isn't that the "Pirates of the Caribbean" theme? Bingo.

QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 12:31 AM) So you prefer giving that start to Anderson, who I really doubt gets 88 RBIs? Who would you target at OF if we go with worst case of Dye at 1B assuming Paulie leaves? Given we should be favored to be contenders again next year with our pitching, all we need is solid hitting, not extraordinary hitting. With Anderson, how do you know he will produce for sure in his 1st year in the league? I am not willing to take that chance....I want someone I can depend on to produce. And remember we do play at mini-Coors, so Burnitz or Jacque can definitely hit it out of our park quite a few times too. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 12:31 AM) Burnitz? :puke If Paulie leaves and it comes down to Dye playing first base, Brian Anderson will be out in right field. That's pretty much all there is to it. Why waste money on a bad free agent outfielder when you have a top OF prospect that plays great defense and makes next to nothing? SSH2005 Pretty much answers your question. I would vomit if I saw Burnitz in RF next year. Brian Anderson is our top position player prospect and the time has come for him to step in. If Pauly is resigned he can be the 4th OFer and Timo can take a hike (Though Timo leaving may be unlikely). If Konerko walks and Dye moves to 1B, it should be Anderson's turn to take a shot at a starting role. Brian Anderson is a far superior defensive player when compared to both Jones and Burnitz. Then when you factor in the money aspect, it almost becomes a no brainer. Anderson = $400,000 Burnitz = $5M+ Jones = $5M+ Give me BA.

I just watched it on Tivo. I can tell you one thing, 5 or 6 years from now when Pods is out of baseball because he can no longer steal bases, he can switch over to a career in modeling. And why the f*** didn't Widger talk? AJ answered like 8 questions and the Widge can't even get in on one? f*** Oprah.
-
Just say no to Jaque Jones, somehow he has become terribly overrated. We don't need a .782 OPS injury prone player patrolling right field next year. Burnitz is just not good. He's struck out 235 times over the past 2 seasons combined and hasn't put up 88+ RBIs away from Coors since 2000. He's old and bad, I really don't want to see him wearing silver and black.

QUOTE(knightni @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 12:11 AM) Depending on the $$ involved, I'd be interested in Piazza as a backup catcher with AJ and part time DH with Frank. I'm pretty sure Piazza is done as a catcher. He only threw out like 3 baserunners this year.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 12:02 AM) ^^^^ I'm saving them anyways, because this is once in a lifetime to see this stuff. But yeah, they seriously choked at the end here. The s***ty quality has forced me to do things such as this: BEFORE: AFTER: It's a b**** to have to do this to every damn picture.

I'm pissed at the AP. A lot of the pics they've been putting out of late have been seriously f***ed up. They have off points and lines on them, you'd think they'd have all high quality pics.

QUOTE(kevin57 @ Oct 28, 2005 -> 09:41 PM) Sorry...he deserves his props for fantastic post-season play, but if anyone tells me they were never frustrated by his offense during the regular season, then he's fooling himself. Hell, even Crede said he did not object to the boos during the season. He said he thought he sucked. Let's not ban because we don't like others' words, please. Never use the word Cred***re or Cru**y again.
-
QUOTE(kevin57 @ Oct 28, 2005 -> 09:34 PM) I was as frustrated at Crediocre as anyone else. Never a question about his defense, but unfulfilled batting average, definitely. I suspect, though, that he's getting into the "Garland" mode. That is, a player of great promise who FINALLY is realizing all that acclaimed talent. You should be banned just for using that word. That is sacreligious.

I have them somewhere on my laptop, I'll try and find them.
