  1. --------------VS----------------- Buehrle(14-6,2.99) Vs Dominguez(1-3,4.40)
  2. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 05:50 PM) Can it be a visor? /shocked /disappointed Whatever cranial accessory that would fall into the same classification as a hat that you wish to consume over a webcam mind you is alright by me.
  3. This is Bookman. That is not the same guy that's on the Aflac Commercials
  4. Orton + starter = Addy + hat Unless he chickens out...
  5. QUOTE(the People's Champ @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 05:05 PM) whats with everyone jumping on Jenks' nutz. He is good, but he isn't proven, and has no experience. Let the kid learn a little first. Hermie has over 30 saves and only 3 blown, all that with a bum back. I gotta go with what works. If it aint broke dont fix it. Hermanson - 22 Jenks - 9 Jumping on Jenks' nuts? I think the consensus is for Hermanson to remain at closer seeing how he's gotten us this far and has yet to falter. Jenks can stay in his setup role and when the time is right the closer's role may open up for him.
  6. QUOTE(SEALgep @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 04:59 PM) His price tag will be much lower than PK's, with a higher average from the left side. The money saved could still be put to use for the power you're looking for. Erstad Vs Konerko is + 12 poinst on the BA and - 28 HRs from a major power position. Erstad has zero power. The power lost at 1B would be extremely hard to make up for at another position.
  7. QUOTE(WinninUgly @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 03:55 PM) It is all about the stretch run. The writers don't remember how a pitcher performed in April and May. They rememeber what the guy did in Aug and Sep, and Halladay killed E-Lo during that timeframe. That is also how Santana won it last year. Whoever has the best Aug and Sep will win the award. Right now I would say the voting would be: 1. Colon 2. Rivera 3. Buerhle 4. Garland 5. Santana The worst thing for the Sox is that Mark and John will take votes away from each other. Jon
  8. QUOTE(JoshPR @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 02:50 PM) Upside = Contreras Stuff = Contreras Price = Contreras Loaiza is making $2.9M this season on a one year deal. Contreras made $7M this year and $8M next year, with some of that being picked up by the Yankees. How is Contreras cheaper?
  9. QUOTE(WSNS-TV44 @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 02:47 PM) It's going to be between Garland and Colon. I can't see "Lindsay" Johan winning the Cy Young if the Twinkies don't win the wild card. Just like Halladay winning the Cy Young in '03 right?
  10. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 02:45 PM) Give me an actual reason to watch. I think the Bears got a steal in Orton, and think he can stick around in the NFL. A much better choice the Hutch, just a filler that going to be in there to basically not turn the ball over, which he obviously could not handle. At least now we will have something to hopefully look forward to. I think the defense alone is reason to watch. They're gonna be fast and rushing unlike they've done the past couple years. We're actually going to go for sacks this year instead of the "sacks are overrated" philosophy.
  11. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 02:34 PM) How do you figure Low expectations, if he does well I'll be ecstatic. I've been calling for Orton to be the starter and I have faith in him but if I set my expectations to high and he falters I'll be pissed. Expectations low meaning a better chance of success.
  12. People have been talking about Buehrle, Garland, Halladay, Colon and Santana as the Cy Young candidates for this season so I wouldn't exactly call Santana a sleeper. He's been comming on for the 2nd half just as he did last year, he has a leg up on the rest just do to the fact that he's won a Cy before.
  13. QUOTE(WSNS-TV44 @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 02:24 PM) I hope it's something special.Orton could achive greatness if he gets the chance. Is Hutchinson gone? Huh!Is the sky blue? There's about a 1% chance Orton does anything of substance this year.
  14. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 12:26 PM) The player's were smart to vote to waive playing that makeup game @BOS on Labor Day. Hypothetical WSox 94-67 vs Cle 94-68. WSox own H2H 10-3. IF WC If WC > WSox then WSox forfeit BOS game & have 1 gm playoff vs Cle. ** It would make no sense to play @BOS when you can host Cle. If you lose @BOS then you still have to host Cle. They currenty own the H2H tie-breaker vs CLE & the best rec in the AL. So right now wrt to WSox the gm @BOS is meaningless. The players did NOT vote to forfeit the game. From Reifert's blog: You're way behind in the News.
  15. Hermanson. He has yet to severely falter.
  16. Da Coach said on the Score earlier that Orton should start. The Bears are going with Orton, this could get real ugly or this could be something special. His depth chart looks like this: 1.) Orton 2.) Blake 3.) Kittner
  17. QUOTE(That funky motion @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 08:18 AM) How long is Blum signed for? He's a FA after this season.
  18. QUOTE(That funky motion @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 07:56 AM) Thats a lot of money for a utility role player. Dont get me wrong,Uribe shined in this role and I have no problem with it. I just dont see it happening. $3.15M for '06 and '$4.15M for '07 does not seem too excessive, especially considering how often he'd play, giving three guys a day off during the week he'd be playing constantly.
  19. QUOTE(Adam G @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 04:30 PM) I heard it, he was on the Tom Sher (sp?) show earlier today where he said just what was posted. The Griffey rumor is "red hot" right now and he thinks that Griffey might be in a Sox uniform by this time tomorrow. The players have been agreed on, the Sox bumped up their financial offer, they need Griffey to come out publicly and say he's in favor of this so the Reds' fan base doesnt hate the new management. QUOTE(Frank the Tank 35 @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 04:30 PM) Yeah I heard it twice today on ESPN1000. It was some Saturday programming with Tom Cher (sp?). They were on till about 2:00 pm. They had their original interview with Bruce sometime in the noon hour and then replayed it right b4 they were done with the show. I'd call this confirmation.
  20. QUOTE(quickman @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 04:25 PM) The reds board is laughing at us. Unless people actaully hear this then I suggest not beleiving what some idiot on the main board says. Its stupid. I ask again...Has anyone on this board actaully heard Bruce levine report this? Please step forward. I'd say people are most likely getting this info from the MLB boards or the ESPN boards. I don't thing Levine said any of this.
  21. QUOTE(Frank the Tank 35 @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 04:11 PM) Wow, Bruce Levine reported several hours ago that the Sox bumped up their offer for KGJ. I'm surprised nobody's jumped on the rumor here. I guess everyone's kinda lulled into a sense that nothing's going to get done. They're offering to take on more of KGJ's contract. Bruce said that both sides have agreed on the players involved, and the only step necessary would be for Junior to publically ask for the trade so that the owner could say he gave Griffey want he wanted and doesn't look like the bad guy who traded him. Bruce said that as soon as that happens a trade could be consumated by tonight or tomorrow (obviously something would have to be done by Wednesday). I'm assuming everyone here will take a "believe it when I see it" approach, as will I. lmao
  22. QUOTE(quickman @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 03:48 PM) bench Brian Anderson right now! Don't let him hit again until the deadline passes. Brian Anderson can't be traded anyway. Just ignore it anytime that his name is brought up.
  23. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 11:40 AM) Not only does Orton NOT put you in the best position to win ballgames, but you risk screwing up what looks to be a future NFL starter. Rarely do rookie QBs put you in the best position to win ballgames and this is no exception. Hell, the Niners are starting Tim f***ing Rattay over consensus #1 selection Alex Smith. Is Alex Smith more talented than Rattay? Absolutely. Does he stand a good chance of getting killed behind that OL and suffer a 2-3 year set-back as a result? Yes. Alex Smith is their future. Likewise, it would appear Orton is the Bears future signal-caller. You do not put these kids out there to get killed. Let's face it, the Bears are going NOWHERE this season. Nowhere. Putting Orton out there does nothing more than risk injury, confidence, and maturation set-backs. Let the kid watch the NFL from the sideline for a year, get in there for a few snaps and compete for the job next season. The Bears are not in a situation where they HAVE to play the rookie QB...so why do it? To finish with 4 wins on the year? No thanks. 1.) I do not buy into the hype that this team cannot win. 2.) Tim Rattay would start on this Bears team. He's better than all four of our QBs right now, if we had him, I'd want him to start. All I'm saying is that he's going to start this year sooner or later, I'd much rather have it be sooner rather than later. But in the end we'll see what happens when the season starts, all we can really do right now is wait and see.
  24. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 11:06 AM) No. No. No. :headshake You do NOT start rookie QBs in the NFL unless they are primed for Hall of Fame careers. After Ben's season last year, everyone thinks it's ok to start rookie QBs. Well, it's not. Ben's size and refined talent last year made him a good candidate to start some ballgames, but the Steelers still started the season with Maddox at #1 on the chart. Ben was a rare exception. No rookie quarterback ever put up the numbers Ben did in the history of the NFL. The last rookie quarterback to ever suceed like that before Ben was a guy the went by the name of Dan Marino. GROOM ORTON!!!! Luckily, this is exactly what I think the Bears will be doing. Blake should be the starter and Orton should take some time to learn how the NFL works. I could care less about Rothlesburger. We have three possible starters right now. Hutchinson, who sucks major ass and would most likely hold a sub 30 QB rating for the season, plus go down around week 3 after getting destroyed on a blitz seeing how he has NO feeling in the pocket at all. He couldn't dodge a rush to save his life. Jeff Blake, who we signed a week ago and sucks almost as bad as Hutch, except is about 3000x the jackass. Orton gives this team the best chance to win. He's a rookie, oh well, so let's groom him like every other QB we've groomed. I just don't give a s***, the O-line will keep him safe to an extent. He'd be starting by week 7 as is, Hutch will be going down this year early and Blake will either be extremely bad or be a total tool and get pulled. Orton will be starting this year, it's just a matter of when. Usually when you keep a rookie QB on the bench to groom him you have a serviceable veteran QB to start while the rookie watches from the sidelines. This is a unique case in which the rookie is probably the best quarterback on the team.
