  1. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 11:39 AM) With the exception that it should be "formerly," not "formally." You have to realize who made it. The king of misspelled words...
  2. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 11:30 AM) i cant take credit for making it, but I WILL take credit for showcasing it. I know who CAN take credit.
  3. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 11:27 AM) I will tell you what. Bartolo is a freak. He is pitching into the 10th and still throwing 96 mph, thats unbelieveable. The guy is a horse, and I really wish we would have held on to him. The Sox offered him the biggest contract in team history and he turned it down. The deal was in Bartolo's hands and he said no.
  4. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 01:12 AM) He's the one that always loses bets to me I don't like the Bears but there is no way they're the worst team in the league... I know, the Dolphins are MUCH worse.
  5. Maybe it's the fact that he's the polar opposite of a lot of the boring ass announcers that you hear around baseball (ie: Seattle, Pitt :sleep ). Rex might be dumb when it comes to Baseball strategy and if you want to learn about baseball stay far away from Angel broadcasts but the one thing you can't argue is that he is entertaining.
  6. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 12:06 AM) I'm still semi surprised. No doubting he sucked in the preseason, but no one is going to tell me that he's worse than Kittner. My guess is the Bears plan on waiving Kittner later on and will be adding a veteran whose cut. Maybe even a guy like Rohan Davey. Once again, IMO you really have to live in Chicago to get a feel for what's going on with the Bears. Hutchinson being cut was not a surprise to anyone I know that follows the Bears, the writing was on the wall. Kittner is better than Hutch, there I said it. Kittner is still on this team because he was Turner's QB at Illinois a few years back, he knows the system and is pretty well suited for that #3 spot. Kittner will not be cut, I'm certain of it.
  7. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 12:05 AM) Yes...in fact Mike Caruso would be a better announcer than the Wonderdog I thought so, I always hated Hudler but the more I listen to him, the more I find myself appreciating his idiotic yelling and dumb senseless comments. PS. I'm gonna ignore that Caruso comment.
  8. Big Daddy Vladdy to the plate. Is it wrong that the more I watch Angels' games the more Rex Hudler is growing on me?
  9. Is anyone gonna mention that Kielty went yard... yeesh.
  10. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 11:51 PM) And then is it three and out in the ALDS?? I'm not one of the doomsayers around here by any stretch, but the self confidence that this team had (and we had in them) the first 3.5 months of the season is AWOL. Before the break, we looked to be THE TEAM, the story of the year, yada yada. Now we're just looking like one of the also-rans, limping into the playoffs with a too much self doubt for Ozzie to brush aside with a couple of jokes in the clubhouse. That said, I think they can shake off the funk and get past the first round. If they can channel 88 years of fan and franchise anguish and just fire on all cylinders for a couple short series' then maybe we'll see the team do us proud. We're just shy of the centennial of the 1906 'Hitless Wonders' championship team, but I think that's close enough so what the hell, let's do it again. Over?. . . Was it over when the... Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? HELL NO!!
  11. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 11:41 PM) I meant it sounds like some peoiple here are putting their hopes on a Frank comeback. Says a lot about the overall confidence in our team. It's not that these posters have a lack of confidence in the team, it's that a lot of us have grown up watching Frank and would want nothing more as Sox fans than to see him finally get his ring and to have him be a major contributor in getting to the WS and god willing, winning the WS. He's worked his ass off his entire career with one team, he deserves this and as fans of the team, we have watched him perform day in and day out for the past 15 years, to finally see him accomplish something of this magnitude would be remarkable as fans of this club and fans of this great ballplayer.
  12. QUOTE(SnB @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 11:38 PM) this was a huge game the sox needed a stopper and big mac comes through way to go kid Big? Big? Tall, yes. But Big? No.
  13. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 11:35 PM) This actually surprised me. I don't know if he'll be able to pick up somewhere else or not. If you lived in Chicago it would not have surprised you one bit. I was 100% certain that this was going to happen. There was no way he was going to hang around as the teams 4th QB, he's that bad.
  14. QUOTE(JoshPR @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 11:31 PM) That's were scouting comes in. I don't think the SOx have been the most productive in that sense. You do mention some good names. But how long has it been since the Sox drafted, Developed an impact player? A so called Stud? 1989 And that was Frank Thomas and Early 90's when Maggs came around and still Maggs wasn't an impact palyer Like Frank You're 100% correct, I just felt someone had to argue for the other side. The Sox haven't had a whole hell of a lot of great players come out of their system, it's really quite sad. With a guy like Chris Yound down there I'm both excited and cautious at the same time.
  15. QUOTE(SnB @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 11:25 PM) that has bob gibson style epic proportions written all over it
  16. QUOTE(JoshPR @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 11:24 PM) I meant to say Drafted and Developed to the Bigs. Sorry i got a call on my Mobile and shortened my answer Johan Santana and Travis Hafner weren't even originally with the Twins and Indians. Not all teams draft and develop their best players.
  17. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 11:22 PM) When our hopes fall on Frank coming back this year, we've got serious problems. Nothing is falling on Frank's shoulders here. It would be a great addition and would most likely help the team but by no means are the Sox relying on a healthy Frank Thomas.
  18. QUOTE(JoshPR @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 11:13 PM) Developed through are farm The Sox picked up Jenks when he had fallen out of good graces with the Angels. They changed him to a reliever from a starter and helped him through some troubles, he now looks like a promissing major league talent. Cotts was picked up from Oakland as a pretty OK prospect, the Sox took him in and groomed him for a year in AA then another two years in the majors of development and he is now one of the most dominate lefty relievers in the game. Garland was picked up from the Cubs when he was in A ball. He was a 1st round pick with good potential but still needed to be groomed. He spent 2.2 years in our minors and another 3.8 in the majors with the Sox, developing. The Sox may not have drafted and developed these players but they sure as hell did develop them.
  19. QUOTE(JoshPR @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 11:09 PM) WHY?? Good scouting and development of the farm that why. The Sox haven't been let's say.. Hmmm that good at it lately. After Buehrle and Rowand who else has been developed? No one. Developed? Well, you said developed and not home grown so... Jenks, Cotts, Garland.
  20. QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 10:58 PM) The Indians are probably worthy of a thread. I'd love for some of the people I really respect on here to compare our teams and tell me what's up with the Tribe. Is this a powerhouse squad that slumped early and now is gonna storm to the World Series title via either the division crown or wildcard? Or is this team a hot team that will falter soon? Are these guys the new Twins, set to dominate for years to come? Thanx. They don't have the same formula as the Twins. The Twins had great starting pitching, a great bullpen and an offense that came up with timely hits. The Indians have an above average mashing offense, a bullpen that is currently ranked number 1 in the league and average to slightly above average starting pitching.
  21. One thing for BMac, he needs to eat a couple burgers and hit the weights. He's skinny as a rail. We should keep him in Chicago just to beef him up a bit with all the great food this town has to offer.
  22. QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 10:43 PM) The offense has been playing better and Dye and Rowand have been especially hot.. If we could keep these two hot through September I smell good things for this offense. The only thing was that we got 10 errors in 3 games and they cost us two games but I dont worry too much about that. That isnt like our guys and I'm sure they'll turn it around. The infield at Texas is absolute s***. The Rangers' players are used to it now but the oppoonents that don't play there often have trouble fielding there.
  23. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 10:44 PM) I'm getting a lot of answer, and that's all well and good. But, I'm not getting what I want. Someone just say yes, he'll be the next Santana Johan Santana ain't got s*** on Brandon McCarthy.
  24. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 10:40 PM) Of course injuries could happen again this year, and it's not like Urlacher missed the whole season. Is Bradley going to be a difference maker straight away? These are the type of questions the Bears need to answer. The Bears were 5-4 with Urlacher and 0-7 without him last year. Urlacher is the heart and soul of this team. Last year was the first time in his career that he missed a game, I don't expect him to miss much time this year.
