  1. That's exactly what they do, all the time. The downside is you don't know if there's going to be a trade, the Twins assumed Soriano was going to be traded so they put out a claim. When you claim a player to block a trade there are some down sides: 1.) If you claim a player with a big contract simply to block a trade you could be stuck with that players entire contract and no use for him (ie: Randy Myers, Jose Canseco) 2.) You could piss a couple of teams off by claiming their players for no reason. This leads to bad relationships with other GMs which is something you don't want.
  2. Jenksy looks wicked against the Twins right now.
  3. QUOTE(spiderman @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 12:28 PM) Why would the Padres, currently up in the division by 6 games, trade one of their few offensive weapons ? Plus, if they were open to trading him, wouldn't they want major league talent back ? The Padres have been looking to unload him all year, they've gotten close a couple times. he's a FA at the end of the year and most likely he won't be resigning with the Pads. They're trying to get some good pitching for him, anything close to major league ready. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 12:29 PM) Isn't Giles a UFA after this season? Maybe they know they won't resign him and just want something in return. Yes and yes.
  4. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 12:08 AM) Jose Vizcaino is/was a middle infielder. Was on a Championship Yankee team, spent the last few years with Houston. Where the f*** is my head? How is it possible for a person to mix up Ricardo Rincon and Jose Vizcaino?
  5. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 12:05 AM) I meant Jose Vizcaino. The point is that Chipper Jones, David Bell, Joe Crede, Mark Bellhorn... These aren't stellar defensive players, and Bellhorn isn't as bad defensively as some would think. How do you compare a RP to a 3B defensively? That makes no sense.
  6. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 12:01 AM) That's not the point. Well then who exactly did you mean when you said "Jose Vizcaino" did you mean Jose Valentin? Because he f***ing sucked at third.
  7. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 12:00 AM) Confirmed! In the Trib! (Of course you need to register, but if you're a Sox fan, c'mon.) Ha, still have my bugmenot login going from when we rigged the polls.
  8. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 11:55 PM) Mark Bellhorn is comparable to Geoff Blum, Chipper Jones, and Jose Vizcaino in terms of his defensive ability at third base. Joe Crede compares to David Bell and Tomas Perez. Jose Vizcaino can bearly field his position when he's pitching, how do you expect him to play thirdbase well?
  9. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 11:48 PM) none. I'm not 100% on this. You'd figure Roto would have something on this by now, plus they havn't even mentioned this on any of the sportscenter updates.
  10. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 11:45 PM) Yeah, Bradley needs surgery. A torn patella tendon will do that to ya.
  11. QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 11:28 PM) Just thinking of players that are out there for the taking because of being DFA'd by their former teams. List Includes: Scott Speizio Mark Bellhorn Danny Graves :puke None of these really excite me.
  12. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 11:25 PM) Could this have to do with Pods on the DL? Doesn't that open up a spot or something? Pods is on the 15 which means he's still on the 40 man roster. This move has nothing to do with him.
  13. Has anyone else even hear this yet? I've yet to see it anywhere.
  14. QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 10:56 PM) I just posted over there to see if anyone knows anything more over there. Doubt it, but we will see. Its not like this is a contest, I just want to know what is going on. Dolgin has mentioned it twice now, but hasn't really elaborated. Where is Levine when you need him? It's just the fact that they're usually way behind on any new news.
  15. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 10:54 PM) Exactly. Maybe you're right on him being outrighted. CNN/SI's list of Sox transactions. But how can the Sox not have updated his status on their website when it happened on July 13? Especially considering they have Brian Anderson listed on the 40 man. BA has been on the 40 for a while now.
  16. QUOTE(GoSoxGo @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 10:26 PM) According to Brian Dolgin on the Sox post-game show, minor league pitcher Matt Smith was outrighted to Charlotte so the 40-man roster now sits at only 39. Could this mean a move for a bat is coming? He copied the exact quote from GoSoxGo. He even had a hyperlink for Matt Smith.
  17. And they now have a thread. Just put up.
  18. QUOTE(3E8 @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 10:49 PM) Anything about this at that other Sox board? No but they're always behind.
  19. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 10:41 PM) I just emailed Dolgin about it, lets see how fast he gets back to us He's got nothing better to do, you should get a response within the next few minutes.
  20. QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 10:07 PM) Why add the +1 just put 163- sox wins- indian losses. Does it really matter?
  21. QUOTE(letsgoarow @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 10:02 PM) whats our magic number and how do u calculate it???? 30 162 - sox wins - cleveland losses +1 = magic number
  22. As a Sox fan, what are you most concerened about? Offense 70.7% Injuries 13.8% Indians 10.3% Twins 3.4% Bullpen 1.7%
  23. Mark :cheers Offense :cheers Bullpen :fyou :fyou :fyou
