QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 15, 2008 -> 10:44 PM) Hey AJP...please review the scouting report that says Cust is a great fastball hitter, but can't touch offspeed pitches! Sounds like Pedro Ceranno.

well it's not boring anymore.

1 of those runs shouldn't have happened.

QUOTE (Karko's Throat Skin @ Aug 15, 2008 -> 09:19 PM) This is a SUPER boring game. Guarantee there is an error by Uribe today. Good Call.

2008 Beijing Summer Olympics Thread

I can't believe Phelps last second charge, that was amazing. In slow motion I was even more surprised that the Serbian did not win. -
if we get a couple of others we could get 2 leagues going. right now with 15 or 16 it'd be one big league, or two small leagues.
-
We needed the Yankees to win their series with the Twins. Before their 9 game homestand happened I guessed they'd go 7-2 on it, possibly 6-3, and 5-4 if we were lucky. But I could easily see them going 8-1, 7-2 if now if we're lucky.

haha I might be able to back peddle as quick as Frank can run, but that was a nice hit.
-
still gotta go for Frank after all this time.
-
3's a great start.

I have yet to see Griffey play for the White Sox besides on highlights.

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 06:07 PM) Have you ever been there? Becuase there are come really beautiful areas. Yes I have been there, I live 30 minutes away from there. -
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 15, 2008 -> 04:05 PM) Experts counted us out before the season even started. Then we hold onto first for a long time and they come around. One even thought the Sox would run away with it in the second half. Obviously Minny has something to say about that, but I think we have the juice to do it we just need to DO IT! I was pretty angry when the person, (who I can remember his name, maybe Steve Phillips) said that we were going to win the division by 10 games or whatever. I knew that wasn't going to happen, so it was hard for me to understand why he'd say that.

MVP winners who didn't deserve it

QUOTE (Felix @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 07:24 PM) Justin Morneau. I think Jeter deserved it in 2006. Morneau had Castillo with a .358 OBP, Punto with a .352 OBP, Mauer with a .429 OBP, and Cuddyer with a .362 OBP. Anyone could get RBI's with that on base percentage in front of you. -
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 12:16 AM) Yeah, Seattle has no business being on that last. To be among the worst franchises in baseball, it takes a long period of being just plain awful. Even a team like Cincinnati finished only 2 games behind the eventual world champion Cardinals in 2006, as well as made a one game playoff in 1999. Teams like Kansas City and Pittsburgh have had no hope for over a decade. Even the one exception to this rule to some degree, the 2003 Royals, finished in 3rd place. I guess you could put the Nationals/Expos on this list too, although I think they have some hope as soon as Jim Bowden is fired. Yeah, and this question is so vague that there can be multiple answers. The common goal is to win the World Series, so does that mean since the Cubs, Indians, and Giants have the longest droughts, they're the worst franchises in baseball. Or the Marlins load up their team for a year and dismantle it after that, winning 2 World Series with no division titles, does that mean they're the worst team for cheating the system, and their fans, the fans never come to the stadium anyways. It depends what the variables are to decide who is the worst team, but for the most part Washington is going to be mentioned in almost every category.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 12:04 AM) Fixed. What's your deal with hating on Seattle, they came close to the Wild Card last year and many people, including some on this website picked them to make the playoffs this year.
-
QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 11:48 PM) Actually they tied with the 1907 or 1908 Cubs. But, they did set a 162 game schedule record. And yet, the Expos were arguably the favorites in the strike year to win a title. And in the next few seasons the Expos dumped all of their good players. Plus that's been 14 years ago, the Mariners were only 7 years ago. Sure the Mariners are one of the biggest dissapointments this year, but I have a hard time putting them in the mentioning of the worst teams in all of baseball. They have 4 90+ win seasons this decade. Granted they all game from 2000-2003.

He's taking the place of both Vazquez and Buehrle, we can't have pitchers up here that don't give up any runs, haha.

All-Time Worst big-name players of the Sox history

QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 10:42 PM) What about Crazy Carl? He was a pretty big name and never really did much with us. I thought about him too, but I guess he won a World Series with us. D'Angelo Jimenez is somebody who I expected a lot more from but never panned out. Jose Valentin sucked after his first year with us in my opinion. -
QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 10:40 PM) With Beltre, Washburn, Ichiro, Bedard, and Putz?? locked up with so much money invested in each guy, along with the fact that they traded their #1 prospect for that wuss-bag Bedard, makes me believe Seattle deserves some consideration. Although they set a record for wins in a season in 2001.

Washington by far. What about Milwaukee? They've been terrible for a long time until last year. I think it's been roughly 25 years since they made the playoffs.

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 11:29 PM) I'm still pissed about David Wells. I've never felt like a player disrespected the team and the fans more than he did by basically taking a year off, getting paid well, not giving a s*** and admitting it. Me too, I've never rooted for him since. -

Yeah I was just thinking Jamie Navarro, Todd Ritchie too. Wil Cordero or Ruben Sierra anyone? -

That would be pretty good for a late 90's to present lineup. I don't know if I'd go with Jose Canseco mainly because we brought him in after Frank Thomas went down, so we needed a replacement. Maybe the first time Sandy Alomar came he didn't live up to expectations, but his 2nd and 3rd stint with us, I think we all expected not a lot from him. Bo Jackson probably could be considered a bust with his time here. -
