8/18 Game Thread: Indians @ White Sox, 7:10pm CT

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 18, 2011 -> 09:40 PM) If we lose tonight and dip one below .500 does that finally show everybody we're not a contender? Teams that trot Adam Dunn and Rios out there every day cannot expect to win anything of significance. I think it's that simple. Add our other guys who are having bad seasons and u get this putrid attack. I am looking forward to the end of the Guillen era. No manager besides him and his gut would continue to bat Dunn 4th with the way he has hit this season. Rios keeps finding himself into the lineup for whatever reason. Guillen was given the green light to ignore contracts, yet keeps trotting out the same guys who have destroyed our season. -

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Aug 18, 2011 -> 09:18 PM) The Indians radio crew making note of the significant hitch in Gordon's swing. Everyone sees it except for his deerstand buddy who cant get through to him. -
No wonder our farm system is in a Shambles

Our inability to invest in the draft and the international signing period has had ripple effects on this organization. The minor leagues are for two purposes. One is for internal candidates to re-stock at positions that turn over due to free agency or age attrition. The other is to be used as value for a trade. Other teams have seen this and have spent accordingly. We have a very high payroll and in large its inflated due to the inability to find replacement candidates from within. Alex Rios would of never been on this team if we could of found a candidate for CF within. Its like a company ignoring the R&D department and getting passed by in the industry due to another competitor finding a cheap and better way to build a widget. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 17, 2011 -> 10:00 PM) What they need to do is find a way to get Omar off the roster. Outside of Pierre, Omar might be the most respected player in Ozzie's eyes. And he controls the roster for whatever reason. So he ain't going anywhere.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 17, 2011 -> 09:57 PM) Much better at bats in the 9th inning, but couldn't get the big hit tonight. Really wouldn't mind seeing Kuhn up here giving us another lefty bat that can face these tough righties. Typical sox. They free swing all game long, then with 3 outs left we suddenly find focus.

So we have less than 24 hours to learn that sinkers that start at the knees are hard to hit. Because we are getting another steady diet of that.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 17, 2011 -> 09:49 PM) No chance with this lineup. Lucy, Beckham, Morel and Dunn? May as well have had 4 NL pitchers in there. There's just no way this team is going to go on the run with so many replacement or below replacement level players offensively. Well imagine the flexibility that September will bring when Viciedo comes up and gives Guillen another pinch runner.

Guillen, kw, and walker all having jobs with this team next year is saying let's see how low we can drive attendance. It's the equivalent of having sex with your bosses wife on his desk in the middle of the day and when he walks in, ask him for a raise and be firm that 20% is a slap in the face for all the hard work you put in.
-
Well Justin Masterson versus our offense doesn't project well.
-
Hawk spends way too much time praising the competition. It's almost like if he makes the into some indestructible super team it makes finishing 3rd okay. We saw this with the twins, now I have heard more this week on how great the Indians are.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 17, 2011 -> 09:30 PM) Everyone swinging at the same pitch that hasn't been called a strike all night. Hopefully we don't see Lucy too much. Well it's real simple. What's the probability that the low pitch from a sinker ball pitcher is going to be a strike. Now all he does is set and forget.
-
Hawk cherry picking stats again.
-
Flowers should be pinch hitting for the pitcher here.
-
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 17, 2011 -> 09:24 PM) why are they afraid of Marson? We always treat certain scrub players like they are arod. Then challenge the real Arod with a base open.
-
Next start when Carmona faces a team that doesn't swing at sinkers that start off at the knees, he gives up 4 runs.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 17, 2011 -> 09:12 PM) Another defensive swing by Morel in a hitter's count. That's why you have two homers on the season. Maybe he can go to camp Georgia, sit in a deer stand with the Jedi master. This type of one on one has transformed beckham into something. Use your aggressive feelings boy. Balls dnt hit themselves. Working the count will not save you.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 17, 2011 -> 09:00 PM) Even if we lose tonight, just have to shake it off and win tomorrow. Cant win them all and thats why winning last night was so important because the Sox cant blow games they are leading late. You realize that the season ends in a month and a half. We don't have a lot of time to leapfrog two teams. So yes you have to win as many as humanly possible due to the hole we put ourselves in. 500 or around baseball gets us tee times the first week of October.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 17, 2011 -> 09:00 PM) Have you seen the starting pitching we'll face the next 10 days? If we're still within 5 games after next Sunday, it will be a moral victory. Does it matter. This team has turned Bruce Chen into Johan Santana. We make crap pitchers look awesome.
-
3 runs. We are hitting our ceiling for runs this offense is capable of scoring.
-
It must frustrate our pitching staff that there is no margin of error. It's either a qs or a loss.
-
We have to lead the majors in losses when our pitchers have a qs.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 17, 2011 -> 08:49 PM) Quentin making no adjustments up at the plate. Our hitters couldn't have a worse game plan tonight. Like they plan.
-
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 17, 2011 -> 08:46 PM) Carmona's got some wicked s*** tonight Everyone has wicked s*** when they face us. A free swinging team like ours. Just keep throwing the sinker into the dirt and let the sox magical approach take it the rest of the way.
-
A competent offense puts up a 4 spot at least on Caromona.
-
Our hitters seem so confused that pitchers don't throw straight batting practice style fastballs to the game. I mean the balls seems to move and change speeds. Opposite field is out so you can't go there. And the goal seems to be to aggressively swing at anything near the plate so you can get back out in the field fresh.
