White Sox Manager Search Thread
southsideirish71 replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 4, 2011 -> 11:44 PM) Making it to the dance and losing to the same team at home two years in a row doesn't normally make for happy fans. Me thinks there are some Maddon haters tonight in Florida. If anybody truly cares down there which is debatable. Simple formula Making it to the playoffs and losing 2 years in a row >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> the hot garbage we have been privy to the last 2 years here on the south side. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 01:50 PM) You know what would help with that? If the Federal government were to come up with some plan whereby they chipped in an increased amount towards covering state-level unemployment benefits, maybe along with some reforms to help people move back into the work force easier if they're trapped in "Unemployed need not apply" land. Hell, we could even have the government hire people to rebuild stuff, that would even take them off the unemployment rolls and make unemployment costs cheaper for other businesses. It seems like we have plenty of bridges and stuff that still need fixed. Why hasn't anyone proposed a plan to do that? I think the government hiring the people who are out of work and putting them towards rebuilding America is a great idea. I feel however that the unions might not be on board. Well let me rephrase that, they will be on board as long as this temporary force pays union dues. I think this, plus adding tax incidentives to companies that hire unemployed people, including a sliding scale of tax incentives for hiring the 99ers.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 08:41 PM) so much for being "job creators" Employed people historically are more attractive to potential hiring managers over the unemployed. In the IT industry how long do you think you can sit on the sidelines, whether it's your fault or not, and have value compared to another candidate who is employed and is working with the tech now. So the only way you flip this is if you make it worth it for the company. They need some sort of incentives or this will continue.

Not a big fan either. But considering that Ozzie and Walk are gone. He can have a lifetime contract for all I care.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 09:35 PM) I was there. I have a couple of things to say. 1.) Did the umpire go piss or something? Was that noticeable on TV? 2.) I had to fight tearing up when they took Buehrle out. It was awesome. 3.) That ovation made me seriously reconsider my stance that Buehrle is definitely coming back. That felt like a real goodbye. I was there as well. Morel gets the moron of the night award. AJ is trying to get the ball after the last out of that inning and Morel then throws it into the stands. -

QUOTE (Reddy @ Sep 26, 2011 -> 10:46 PM) OZZIE MAKES THE LINEUP CARD YOU ... oh man... and what about 38 home runs in '10 is declining to you? Dunn's inability to get the bunt down in the 4th inning is declining. -

QUOTE (chiguy79 @ Sep 26, 2011 -> 10:32 PM) This is just part of the mass exodus about to take place, sox will get a cheap manager to fill in while they cut payroll and try to reload. Q, MB and AJ will all be gone. Season ticket holders are going to be cut in half and avg attendance next year will be Damn Mayans and their long count calendar. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 26, 2011 -> 10:21 PM) Why would I be happy? He's a great manager. No surprise though. It was obvious he'd be gone for a long time. Get ready for a KW puppet. I'd expect next season most fans will turn on KW when we suck again. Hard to blame Ozzie for next year when he's sunning in Florida. And Jermaine Dye in his final season was a great defender. -

Love the moron beat reporter who couldn't wait for Guillen to finish his conference. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 26, 2011 -> 07:00 PM) I believe they are now the most popular flat screen manufacturer or something like that. I wanst buying into Vizio at first but they get pretty good reviews. I have been buying Vizio for a couple of years. Very happy with the brand.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 25, 2011 -> 05:47 PM) Missed most of the game. Cutler been bad? 2 bad throws. And a bunch of stone handed receivers. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 21, 2011 -> 02:40 PM) And because they've done exactly that before...with the Williams kids. Well to be fair, the last time they drafted one of Ozzie's kids he didnt exactly leave on the best of circumstances. They drafted Carrie Schueler for the love of god, nepotism doesnt really matter here. Carrie however didnt get a twitter account and start making comments about front office personnel's dinner companions.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 09:47 PM) You don't think Ozzie resents the fact KW is his boss? Ozzie was a good baseball player; Kenny a nothing. Ozzie has a huge ego like most baseball players do. KW did nothing on the field in Oz's eyes IMO. You have jumped the shark.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 06:57 PM) So does mine. Sergio has blown five saves hasn't he? He's 29 in 34 opportunities. Bobby was 27 saves with four blown last year. Remember that stretch last year when even as fatter Bobby, he was on a roll? Oh yes, people will tell me Bobby also sucked in games he lost or whatever. Matt Thornton really did a nice job in the role this year as well. I'm not ripping on Sergio, I like him a lot, but the man has blown a few games as most all closers do. Bobby is NOT the devil. Why would your head hurt when I point out those stats?? Some people act like Bobby never was productive in a White Sox uniform. Ever? Now somebody is going to respond and say 27 saves last year were totally worthless or misleading or something. I don't get it. Yes he's fat like Dunn. His production even last year, his worst in a long time, was 50 times better than equally fat Dunn. BTW, Juan is up to .286. For non Sabes people, he's putting together a nice average. So who is a better pitcher, the 4.44 ERA pitcher who has crazy run support and somehow gets 17 wins, or Zach Grienke on the Royals with a 2 ERA and 13 wins. I mean it must be the mythical pitcher with the 4.44 ERA. Because he won 4 more games right, Zach Grienke must not know how to win. This is what happens when you take a single stat instead of using more stats to add dimension.
-
Happy Birthday to both of you. Remember Felix, the refs are still out to get the bears.
-
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 10, 2011 -> 05:11 PM) Do not be so quick to dismiss Juan. I am betting he won't be back in 2012, but 45 RBIs for a lead off batter isn't bad Well father time is not kind to speed players with other limited skills. He can be a beast in the workout room, however I see a bench spot on someones team in his not so distant future. He might start on the 2012 marlins if a certain manager is there.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 10, 2011 -> 05:03 PM) I think De Aza has damn near as many extra basehits as Pierre does in like 500 less at bats. Screw xbh, it's better to hit then use an out to move them into second and then hope for the best.
-
Congratulations on #2000, Pierre

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 10, 2011 -> 12:33 PM) SABRmetrics has jumped the shark. If you watch and understand the game you know Pierre did his job. You also know that the Tigers are simply better than the Sox. This is a game which has historically captured raw data and has presented certain statistics to determine value throughout a players career. I believe in fact that they have peddled cards with a picture on the front and a select set of stats on the back. So what I don't understand the resistance to taking the same raw data and or statistics to derive other output from it. Nothing wrong with adding dimension to data that is already being collected. Baseball seems to jumped on board, so what's the issue. -
Welcome back to American League Baseball. Yes we are now playing again with all 27 outs.

Aj doesn't plan on giving up playing time

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 8, 2011 -> 11:12 AM) I think catching is the least of our problems. AJP is not a problem. Maybe pitchers who can't control the running game are? The cathcer and pitcher must work together. We have seen some improvement from Tyler Flowers this year, but I am not ready to annoint him our new back stop. I remember it wasn't that long ago when folks were calling for his head and saying he would never make it at the big league level. He could really benefit from another year workig with AJP. Catching is one hard position to find good position players let alone quality ones. AJP brings a lot of good to this team You realize that Hawk is not an impartial observer of AJ right. When AJ throws to the wrong side of the bag, or super high where the tag cannot be applied. Hawk goes into a rant about how the pitcher can't hold the runner. Now sure, some of the pitchers are a bit long in their deliveries. But lets look at our rotation. Floyd is probably the slowest to the plate. Danks and Buerhle are lefties and have decent moves as per Danks, and a great move with Buerhle to first. Peavy is a lot of things, but he is pretty good at holding runners. So one out your 5 guys in the rotation is poor on holding runners. Yet Hawks pet gets the benefit of the doubt because it cant possibly be the fact that he threw it to Alexies side of the bag, or its thrown too high. It must of been the pitcher holding him. -

QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 09:56 PM) I mean really, wtf? Well Flowers will get to face the token lefty here and there. You can't sit a proud vet like AJ. You can't pinch hit for a future HOFer like vizquel. Ozzie Baker needs to protect his vets from the injustices of youth. -

QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 09:28 PM) If we can go 20-3 in the remaining games, all we need Detroit to do is go worse than 11-10 for us to take the division. Well my plan involves an Alien conspiracy and pods. Now before you say no, hear me out. We take a pod and give it to Verlander as a pillow. Once he is taken over, the rest will fall. Now plan B involes Zombies, I would personally rather go with plan A as Aliens can be killed with the common cold and zombies require a head shot. Who is with me. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 09:27 PM) Tyler Flowers' batting average is free falling right now. He just needs to keep working on making contact. Well planting his ass on the bench after AJ showed up is not the formula for getting this kid to make contact. Maybe we can promoted the AAA hitting coach before someone from the georgia region decides to empart his knowledge of the dark side to him.
