Official 2011-2012 NFL Thread
southsideirish71 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I find it absolutely a joke that Downers South, Downers North, Hinsdale South, Marist and a whole slew of other high schools in the area have a superior playing surface than the professional team. Why do they do it, well its cheaper in the long run and safer. Yet once again, we have painted dirt that players slip on like its ice skating. Now granted, the actual play that Cutler broke his hand might not of been on that Knox slip. Knox might not have slipped because he was on a patch of painted dirt. In the end though, its a well known fact about the playing surface at Solider field. Next summer we will go through the same run around where people try to tell us that painted dirt is safer than field turf. -

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Nov 20, 2011 -> 05:51 PM) That's obviously is not on Cutler. For some reason the local high schools have all converted to field turf meanwhile the pro team believes painted dirt works better. -

The Walk Off granny off of Goose. I was at the game. I remember walking out of the stadium and it was rocking. The next time I witnessed the stadium rocking like that was during the 2005 playoffs. -
Well looks like the protestors were nice enough to move the van for the media.

Exotic animals escape Ohio farm; owner found dead

QUOTE (MEANS @ Oct 19, 2011 -> 03:50 PM) why do these animals have to be killed? Why can't they just tranquilize them? Was a reason given? These are Lions, Tigers, Bears, and other nasties. This is not a coyote in your neighborhood picking off a poodle. These animals can and will kill people. The police's number one priority is to protect the people first. They dont issue Tranq guns to the local police officers. So as much as seeing the Lion get killed is sad. It would be worse the Lion picked off a few 4 year olds while they waited to get the non-lethal weapons. So as gruesome as it is this was the wise decision. The bad guy here was the mope who offed himself and let the beasties out. -
Well the company got me an HP laptop a while back and I have had enough of some of the undocumented features in Windows including blue screening when you disconnect a USB to Serial connection. I have loaded Ubuntu on my laptop and things looked good. Then I tackled the integrated 3G card, a Qualcomm Gobi card. I got it up and running but lord what a pain. It involved loading modules, binding them to a USB tty and then loading a process to load and flash the 3G cards firmware. Finally I can use the 3G connection. This is where a mac would come in handy. Linux is nice and serves its purpose, it however at times is a pain in the ass when you have something out of the ordinary to enable.. Well on to VMWare workstation 8.

Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 11:44 PM) I believe in the badger. What he says goes on this topic. Badger if what Cowley writes is true, isn't that alarming behavior by Coop? What if it isnt true. What if it's make believe from a guy with a limited education, his spawn, and his lackey. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 11:30 PM) So you think Coop's behavior is warranted and FINE? Or you just dispute what Cowley wrote. Why would a well paid reporter make s*** up? He wouldn't lest he get fired. I give the article my applause. Here is the previous suntimes special reporter and a few of his opinions on the subject. I assume you applaud these as well. http://www.aolnews.com/2010/03/23/ill-say-...o-fire-guillen/ http://www.sportsjournalists.com/forum/ind...ic=38362.0;wap2 http://www.sportsjournalists.com/forum/ind...ic=32019.0;wap2 -
Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 11:29 PM) 1.) The article is in a MAJOR NEWSPAPER. The reporter's job is at stake. If article is true and why wouldn't it be, then I am horrified at Coop's smarmyness. BAD! 2.) Milk, a respected poster called you out pretty bad today as well. You are not a perfect poster by any means. 3.) Ozzie did not do what it alleges Coop of doing. Coop is doing a behind the back stabbing. That is SAD. And no ballplayer on the White Sox will respect that kind of behavior. Like I said, Cowley got a MAJOR SCOOP here if it's true. And he should be fired if it's not true, so it's likely true. I LOVE the Oz text to Coop. Your entire schtick has got to be an act. Because If it isn't this is a cry for help. -

He was one of my favorite players. This screams of ownership micro-managing more than anything. How is Robin qualified to do this. -
QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 05:49 AM) I think it is much closer to thank him for operating a company where his engineers could develop all those neat new toys. And a fairly decent comparison would be Masaru Ibuka, and Akio Morita of Sony who invented the Walkman. That was the first truly portable device for listening to your choice of music. As cassettes changed to CDs then MP3s the style of devices changed, but it would be unrealistic to believe that Jobs gave us portable music players. Jobs didnt invent portable music players, but again Apple changed them. If anyone remembers working with the first MP3 players. The UI was challenging, no playlists, no video. So again, its not invention its innovation.

QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 05:58 AM) And who made a greater impact on getting computers into homes, Apple and closed source, expensive hardware and software that was incompatible with anything else, or open source IBM which allowed computers at half the price? I would say while Xerox Parc invented the mouse and the GUI, it was Apple that drove this out and forced competition to innovate as well. Windows is a byproduct of this innovation and drive into the market place. Originally Apple was closed source, but OSX is based on UNIX and is hardly closed source now. Competition is a great thing for innovation.

RIP Steve Jobs. Steve Jobs has passed away. Whether or not you are a fanboy or an ardent hater of all things apple. Sad to see someone who helped to innovate and change computing go so young. Apple will never be the same.
