  1. QUOTE (JoeBatterz @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 02:15 PM) Read this blurp from below on ESPN Insider. We could do worse than settling for Garland if we can get him for cheap. TRADES: Could rant prompt Garland departure? Jon Garland | DiamondbacksJon Garland ripped into his teammates after the Diamondbacks' loss to the Rockies on Wednesday, and the East Valley Tribune says the comments could result in him being shipped out of Arizona. The D-backs misplayed several balls behind Garland, who likened his teammates to the Bad News Bears. Garland already has been the subject of trade rumors, and this could only hasten his departure. Keith Law's Take Garland can eat innings"He's an above-replacement-level innings eater. Plenty of teams need the bulk innings even if it's from a guy who has to be a little lucky to be league-average. If he hates their defense, he should shudder to see ours. If we do pick up a pitcher, I hope we aim higher.
  2. Dye should be our DH starting next year. If I had to bet which one will product better with the stick for the next few years, Dye would get my vote. Jimmy is a standup classy guy, however we need to balance our ability to be sentimental with our ability to compete for the next few years. I don't think that Dye gets a full time RF gig being that he is so defensively challenged. Maybe if someone needs a stick so bad.
  3. Buerhle's perfecto is that much more impressive considering the defensive handicap we throw out there on a daily basis.
  4. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 02:19 PM) resign Thome thread on Monday, cut Thome threads on Friday. Thats f***ing hilarious I don't know who wants to cut him. But if I had to choose between Dye or Thome as my DH over the next few years. Dye gets my vote.
  5. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 02:17 PM) Good thing the offense decided to take the day off here.... Hopefully its just a half day, and they show up tonight.
  6. QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 02:15 PM) There are brutal ABs Our guys are just hacking away today. Considering his pitch county by the 3rd innings, it a joke that he is still out there in the 8th inning.
  7. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 02:13 PM) Three runs could be made up....BUT..... If we take pitches, and don't try to do too much we can score against Verlander and the Detroit pen.
  8. QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 02:10 PM) Verlander has had poor control and we still haven't been able to hit him. Even with poor control throwing 95 and above he is hard to hit. The way to beat him, is to exit him from the game and play against their bad bullpen. We did a great job early in the game of raising his pitch count. The minute however we went behind we started hacking early in the count and basically have kept him in the game.
  9. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 02:05 PM) Yes, He had opportunity to do major dmg today and couldnt get it done. Oh Major Damage. Sorry for your scale. Considering we have one run, and he plated it. I wouldn't say he sucked. But thats just me.
  10. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 02:02 PM) Wise had one of our three hits. It's not his fault that Gordo, Thome, Paulie and Lexi sucked today. Pods wouldn't have made them hit. Gordon sucked today? I guess sacrifice flies hit themselves.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 01:59 PM) Just got to a computer today to see what's going on. I can't believe Pods isn't playing in what is such a big game. I don't care if it's a doubleheader...he needs to be playing both games. Dewayne Wise made a catch, didn't you see.
  12. Nothing like leting crappy crappy hitters beat you. 3-1. He keeps getting killed on the side arm action. Yet keeps going to it. Unreal.
  13. Now Contreras is becoming a submarine pitchers and he goes to 3-0. Come on now.
  14. QUOTE (DanksFan @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 01:53 PM) no s***, our approach has been horrendous the last couple of innings. The minute we are down, and its past the 5th inning we start to press and start to initiate action early in the count.
  15. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 01:44 PM) Verlander will take the 7th and I wouldn't be totally shocked to see him go 8 if the 7th is as easy as the 6th was. This is why we have a hard time coming from behind late in games. We start hacking early in counts and making quick outs.
  16. I am glad we are working the count to get to Detroits terrible pen. If we keep hacking like this we are keeping him in for a while.
  17. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 01:30 PM) True, but Contreras was really good in the minors and Colon wasn't all that impressive. At least, we should hit their starter. Colon is also a guy that is fastball heavy and doesn't feature a lot of secondary pitches. A moving 95 mph fastball is hard to center up ( old colon ). An 88 moving fastball when you are looking for it is not as hard.
  18. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 01:22 PM) Jose wouldn't be in this mess if we had an average right fielder defensively. Ugh. I hope we resign Dye, I hope its as a DH.
  19. I hate that side arm stuff from the Count. When he stays over the top a lot, he gets better velocity on his fastball and his fork drops like crazy. When he drops down, his pitches flatten out and get hit hard. Keep over the top Jose.
  20. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 01:03 PM) Itd be nice for CQ to break out right now. That works.
