QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 03:22 PM) Plenty of people b**** and moan about MS software, and maybe rightly so, but could you imagine what a disaster (or ridiculously more expensive) software would be if it had to be ported to 20 different proprietary versions of Unix along with all of the hardware/ networking/ communications hurdles with non-standardized operating platforms? I can agree that the demonization of MS is a bit too much. But your take on the disasters and expense of using Unix or Nix like systems is a bit shall we say overstated. There are no networking or communications hurdles with using Unix. Hell TCP/IP has been running on Unix for a hell of a lot longer than Windows has been around.

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 10:22 PM) If you could get Rolen along with Halliday for just Beckham, or say Beckham and Richard, you improve at 3B and starting staff. With the improvement from Richard to Halliday and Beckham to Rolen, you can reasonably expect to win the crappy AL Central. In the playoffs, a rotation of Halliday, Buerhle, Danks and either Floyd or Contreras looks mighty tough to beat. Why in the name of god would they want Richard. They have a lot of starting pitching. If they want a return back for starting pitching its going to be something that projects highly. Like say John Danks. So is Danks + Beckham + Flowers + Hudson + something else about what you want to give up for a 1 1/2 year prayer. Because if you drop that group in, and you don't win it. You have f***ed your franchise for a long time. If this was a Miguel Cabrera type guy, who plays everyday is young and under control sure blast away. But going for a pitcher and Rolen, I don't know if that pushes you over the top. Our pitching is pretty good right now outside of our 5th starter. X player + secondary crap or large numbers of crap isn't going to get this done. Think young major leaguers who project highly, and are under control for a long time.

QUOTE (longshot7 @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 05:35 PM) Everyone has a bad day once in a while, but I guess you didnt read my post. I said trade Beckham, but no one else. F--- the future if it means another title, that's my thinking. How exactly does adding Halladay equal title. This team has a lot of flaws and is not a single pitcher away from being a title contender. We wouldn't have kids like Beckham starting one year from their draft day on a one player away world series contender. We are a team in transition that might challenge the pirates for worst team if we deck Beckham and some kids for a 1 1/2 year rental.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 07:28 PM) I'm not going to condemn Beckham's play at 3B and extrapolate it around the diamond or point to other players like Nix and Uribe that seem to be able to move all over the field without any negative impact defensively, but some of the mistakes at 3B in terms of judgement make you wonder how he'll do at SS when he'll have 50% more plays to make on an everyday basis. I get a kick out of people trying to extrapolate a guys defensive future based on a short time at 3rd base. 3rd base is not the same as SS. 3rd base is a reaction position. Its not the same thing. You have a kid who has played the same position since he was probably a little boy. And we move him over to a new one a week before he gets to the majors and ask him to learn on the job. Its going to be a work in progress. Extrapolating his future based on month one at 3rd base is myopic at best. Do we want him to defend better, sure. He is learning. He will have some setbacks. And he will move forward. Crede and Ventura were hardly the defensive gems we saw later on in life in their first month on the job.

This team has enough speed to win at the dome. Hopefully we can win a few more times there, so we can stop with this nonsense of a mythical boogeyman that makes our players tinkle.

Do the Twins really own us in their park...? Myth?
southsideirish71 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Its hard to play baseball when you assume this position before you walk on the field. We are a self fulfilling joke up there. The twins are not a spectacular team, they however are a fundamentally sound team. We go up there for years, kick the ball around, walk people and make mistakes. We put them in a position to win, and they step on our necks everytime. The thing that sickens me, is this cublike attitude from the organization of self pitty, and turning the HHH into the boogeyman's home. We lose games up there more because we play s***ty baseball more than the boogeyman. Its not a curse, its not the dome. Its s***ty baseball against a fundamentally sound team. The fact that everyone from the Manager, to the TV guys bend over and admit defeat is disgusting. Play hard, if they win so beat it. But stop stepping on your own dicks because you are scared of a f***ing cement s***hole. And for the love of god, can we stop pitching to Mauer with men on. His contact rate is through the roof. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 07:30 PM) Colon has only given up 1 hit through 4 innings tonight although he hasn't struck anyone out. Maybe he can do the job. He had his moments earlier this year. He is still throwing lots and lots of fastballs. So if its still 89 to 90 and he doesnt trust his secondary pitches, the same result will occur.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 08:50 AM) Don't worry Carlos Gomez will have a huge weekend. Carlos has some odd routine in his preparation to bat, where he turns the bat on its side, and sniffs the bat. Its one of the oddest things I have seen. Watch for it, in his bats this weekend.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 05:01 PM) The other thing in my mind is that if this team is going to stay in the race, can Beckham be at third and Ramirez at short. If Jake Fox is a bad 3B, what is Gordon Beckham. I think Ramirez needs to go to center, Beckham short and Fields or Nix at third. Beckham started playing 3rd base about a week before he came up, and is a rookie. He has been fine over at 3rd. Is he going to mess up sure, but he seems to learn and get better each day. I am sure he is sorry he made an error today, and had a bad day at the plate. But lets not get goofy with reshuffling the deck because you saw one of the players kick the ball today. This is one of the worst defensive teams in baseball. Playing musical chairs is not going to fix this, in this year. He will get better. He is not Jake Fox bad, he is not Josh Fields bad. He f***ed up, it happens. -
Who should be the 5th starter after the ASB?

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 04:50 PM) If not Poreda, there is no reason for him to be on the big club. Richard would do a fine job as a reliever. Let Poreda get his feet wet, if Richard can get worked out, all the better. I figure they bring Colon up, and then send Poreda back to AAA making it pointless to have him up. The only thing we have done, is start his clock. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 04:51 PM) Yep, don't always have to get the 3 run homer to change the momentum in the game. Hard to be upset with the offense today though. At least Ozzie will stop saying Carrasco is the MVP of this team. The offense did enough to win the game today. My comments are just that we need to have a better overall attack against bullpen pitchers late in games. You figure that this will have to even out, and if that does we should have some exciting wins in the 2nd half. Its something that I think they will overcome. -

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 04:50 PM) I think it goes back to advanced scouting and knowing what a guy throws. Its not advanced scouting, as most of these guys we know already. Its more into poor ABs and impatience at the end of the game. Maybe its pressure, maybe its the I want to be a hero. -

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 04:48 PM) We were down 7...I think we did a decent job of coming back, but you have to seal the deal. We did a great job of coming back today. But we need to start to chip away at the bullpen later in games. Even with our poor start, this was winnable. -

This team has got to figure out how to come back when they are down a few runs to win some games. Good teams can come back, we have only 2 times this year were we have won when down after the 6th. Thats a pretty telling mark that needs to be reversed in the 2nd half. -

QUOTE (Cali @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 04:30 PM) Wise in Left Now? So an automatic out leads off the inning instead of Nix who has proven he can make solid contact.... Nice Ozzie.... Kenny needs to do a better job of keeping Timo Perez types away from the roster. Ozzie can't control himself. -

No Pinch Hitters Ozzie. We have been rotten with pinch hitters this year. Its basically an automatic out. Just ride what you have out today and hope it works. -

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 04:24 PM) What is the Sox record when trailing after 6 innings. That tells you all you need to know about the Sox ability to hit bullpen pitching. We have 2 wins this year and over 30 losses.
