  1. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ May 19, 2008 -> 03:12 PM) I don't see any humor in referring to a career minor leaguer as "a pile". I agree that there are young guys I'd rather see but sometimes you never know. What if Childers was a given a shot and he did well. Unlikely maybe, but who knows. There was no humor implied in my comment. The definition of pile I was using in my description was not derogatory in nature, it was as under dictionary.com, " a large number, quantity, or amount of anything". I was using the fact that we have had a lot of older AAAA talent, such as Printz, Redding, Okha, Bucha, etc. Here is a 33 year old guy who has a sub 90 mph fastball and gets through the minors with guile and pitches to contact. And doesn't project for summer success at the Cell.
  2. Just another reminder of the position of Hamas. Elected, sure. But their goal is pretty obvious. Well obvious to everyone, but the Obama campaign who think that face to face will make any difference in hamas's view that Israel needs to be wiped off the map.
  3. QUOTE (scenario @ May 19, 2008 -> 02:36 PM) Anyone know anything about Jason Childers? http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/C/J...-Childers.shtml Sort of surprising to me that he hasn't seen more major league time with the minor league success he's had. 3.05 minor league ERA; over 8 K/9; right around 3.0 BB/9. Yet here he is at 33 years old and only had 5 innings in the majors? One of the reasons I'm asking is that he's doing very well in Charlotte... 0.98 ERA; 18K's, 4 BBs in 18 innings pitched. A .100 BAA with almost a 2:1 GO/AO Is it possible he might get called up if we need a reliever? We went down this road last year with Printz. I would rather see what Adam Russell can do before we dive into the 33 year old career minor league pile.
  4. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 19, 2008 -> 12:56 PM) UFC on Saturday should be good. Sherk v. Penn, Machida v. Ortiz and Wand v. Jardine. Really looking forward to this card. Next few weeks have a lot of good MMA cards. UFC 84 on Saturday, then Elite-XC on CBS on the 31st, WEC headlined by Faber v. Pulver June 1st on Vs., a quick turnaround for the UFC with 85 on the 7th of June from London. The Faber v Pulver fight should be awesome. Both guys are pretty dynamic, I would give Pulver the edge on his feet, and Faber as the better grappler. Uriah has this knack for getting some unconventional move, that works for a submission. Because of his dynamic fight game, he is hard to get ready for. He is about as natural of a fighter as I have seen in the sport. Pulver will need his experience and his punching power to win this.
  5. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 18, 2008 -> 11:25 PM) Okay, I lied, worst case scenario is that he fails miserably and is out of baseball in 5 years. But if he fails as a starter, he has the potential to become a very good SU/CL with his arsenal. I haven't seen him a ton, but from what I have seen is that his stuff is legit. I was looking at it in the spectrum of him succeeding and making the bigs. Our system is devoid of positional prospects. Your number 8 overall pick better be a top of the line rotation starter if you pick them there. We need to get the best available hitting talent at number 8.
  6. Masset did a nice job there throwing strikes. We survive that inning with the lead.
  7. Crede with a terrible throw. Brooks Robinson my ass.
  8. Dotel should be running laps for that effort.
  9. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 18, 2008 -> 05:44 AM) I usually don't bring in Hack and DJ to make points, but last night they were talking about how velocity drops can hurt pitchers, like Buehrle and Zito, and unless you have perfect location, your gonna get hit. Zito has lost about 4-6 mph on fastball while Buehrle only has dropped 3-4 mph for the most part. But I was impressed though, Buehrle hit 87 a few times, so he had more velocity than Zito. I guess glossing over the point that Zito couldnt find the zone regularlly, and was in hitters counts all night is just a coincidence. Do you know what made the difference last night. Buerhle throwing strike one. Also Buerhle looked better last night because he was driving his cutter in on the hands of righties. That more than "speed" differential is the issue.
  10. Congrats. Hope mommy is recovering well. You guys are going to have a great summer.
  11. Thank God our pitching has been as good as it has, and thank god for Q.
  12. Hopefully we can open this up a bit in this frame. We have been getting on at a good clip, lets drive them in now.
  13. This shouldn't be this close. We should have at least 5 to 6 runs on Zito.
  14. Back up the middle for Carlos. Not trying to do too much. God what a great hitter. Love his approach.
  15. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 16, 2008 -> 11:30 PM) CQ with the steal. Is there anything this man doesn't do? He needs to figure out how to clone, then clone a few copies of himself and sprinkle around the lineup.
  16. Well you have to give Hawk props on that one. He called that.
  17. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ May 16, 2008 -> 11:00 PM) His thumb hurts so damn bad yet they keep him in the lineup.....seems smart. Hawk keeps going into more detail on the injury. Its so painful that Kong has altered his swing, and tries to pry his hand off as quickly to avoid the pain. If it hurts that bad, why is he not resting. This makes zero cents.
  18. That was a golden opportunity wasted there. We shouldnt be in a pitching duel with this team with this pitcher tonight.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 16, 2008 -> 10:44 PM) If your team gave up Liriano, Bonser, and Nathan for a guy who only lasted 1 year for you, wouldn't you boo him too? They should boo Sabean. AJ didnt say, trade for me and give up your farm.
  20. QUOTE (tommy @ May 16, 2008 -> 10:44 PM) no 'strech' on this one, common hawk! Hawk is too busy watching the legend backup the play in centerfield.
  21. I find it rich that these fans are booing AJ, yet they cheered for a dirtbag cheater like Bonds.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ May 16, 2008 -> 09:38 PM) I'd actually pull Gavin for a ph, but that's just me. Why his swings right now are on par with anyone on the bench right now. Why take him out to get into the pen this early.
  23. Someone should pass the memo to the team, unless Cain or Lincecum are pitching we should roll this team.
