  1. QUOTE (G&T @ May 8, 2008 -> 01:28 PM) I really think that's what causes some of the routs like we saw last night. MB probably doesn't get lit up if he didn't feel like he had to be perfect. Maybe I'm wrong, but at some point it has to start wearing on the pitchers. When you have a pitcher who is as calm as anyone, taking a bat to a heater then you see frustration.
  2. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ May 8, 2008 -> 01:26 PM) Danks might already be the Sox' best pitcher. Javier is the best right now. Danks and Floyd are pitching equally as well. The rest, okay.
  3. The only way we can win, is if Danks shuts them out. Our pitching cannot give up runs at all.
  4. Nice job middle of the order. Slowely is not exactly K city with that 88 mph fastball.
  5. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 8, 2008 -> 01:17 PM) at least Jim is seeing some pitches And missing them.
  6. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 7, 2008 -> 03:19 PM) You're not supposed to pull an off-speed pitch? The purpose of an off speed pitch is often to get you (the batter) out in front. Thats why people have to "try and sit back" on those pitches. Waiting even longer to go the other way is even tougher. It's easier to pull an off-speed pitch than it is to wait and go the other way with it. I was taught to try to drive the breaking pitches to right or up the middle. The problem with going out and trying to pull the breaking pitch is the timing. You often pull the ball foul a bunch of times, and pulling and elevating a breaking pitch that is dropping down on you is very hard to do. It often creates a false upper cut swing. The other thing is as a right hander, the breaking pitch rarely moves on a true 12/6. Usually it moves away from you. You want to drive through the ball with a level swing, and let your hands high finish provide the lift. Pitchers throw breaking pitches to get hitters to pull them on the ground, or pop them up due to the false upper cut swing.
  7. QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ May 8, 2008 -> 09:07 AM) He PH for Thome last night. Sorry my bad, I missed that one.
  8. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 8, 2008 -> 08:46 AM) wtf is this? We can't possibly have Ramirez leading off today can we? His .114 average and .139 OBP really are what I look for in a leadoff hitter. So my question, Brian Anderson doesnt get into last nights blow out. He isn't be used as a defensive replacement. And can't make the getaway lineup. Why is he on this team again.
  9. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 8, 2008 -> 08:31 AM) Wow. What Major League College team did you play/coach for? SXU The little blurb above was implied green.
  10. See Round Ball Watch round ball leave pitchers hand If round ball crosses the big white thing in front of the gentleman who is squatting behind you between your nipples ( tmar reference ) and the knees swing the club. Make sure your back elbow is up, like an L Stride towards the pitcher ( not towards the third baseman ) Make sure that your swing is level, no dippy the back shoulder Watch the ball strike the club Drive through the ball Finish with your hands up high
  11. The Trib is taking the times to task on the coverage.
  12. Batting Average is now 29th out of 30 teams. 10th out of 14 teams in the AL in OBP 8th in the AL in runs 1st in home runs though
  13. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ May 7, 2008 -> 11:17 PM) Everyone but Konerko so far... Uribe does what he does best. Put the first pitch into play for an out.
  14. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ May 7, 2008 -> 10:58 PM) i wouldn't shed a tear if Konerko or Thome weren't in a Sox uniform after this year, if this is what we're gonna get for the rest of the season don't get me wrong, i don't hate these guys or wanna see them "collide in the field" like some other bozo's, but a fire sale generally implies the players, i have no problems with our coaching staff except maybe ozzie and the fact that I think he's a toolbag. What what exactly are you selling in your fire sale. Thome, the player who can play DH only, who can't hit lefties. and is slumping. Sure lots of teams would jump at that. Dye who has a NTC. Maybe the 5 and 10 guy Konerko. Or Maybe the FA rental Crede who is getting you no comp, has Boras as an agent, and cooled off from hitting.
  15. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ May 7, 2008 -> 10:47 PM) it's the players responsibility to take that coaching to their at bats, which they don't seem to be doing. that's the players at fault, not the hitting coach. Oddly we keep bringing players in, and magically they all have the same exact issues. I see a pattern. Dont you.
  16. QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ May 7, 2008 -> 10:42 PM) How do you guys think the Sox evaluate Greg Walker at his job performance? I am being serious here... what do you think they look at that makes them think he's an asset to the team? I can't even imagine there being another pitching/hitting coach, given the talent he has to work with, that has done a worse job than Greg Walker. OC comes here, hits like crap. Swish comes here, hits like crap. The only one hitting well is Quentin. And Walk has been quoted for years, that he doesnt mess with the youngsters because their swing is what got them here. I honestly have no clue what Walk does for a living. Professional Playing Card manager. Who the f*** knows.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ May 7, 2008 -> 10:39 PM) Don't tell me what you hit, tell me when if you hit it! Fixed for you
  18. Its amazing how MVP types like Morneau and Mauer can go oppo. I wonder if Walker watches them and gets confused.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ May 7, 2008 -> 10:19 PM) I think he'll be playing tomorrow. Whens the f***ing reaper coming. No consequences on this team = no one cares about bad play.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ May 7, 2008 -> 10:17 PM) This is the lineup I would like to see tomorrow: Anderson CF Cabrera SS Thome DH Dye RF Quentin LF AJP C Swisher 1B Crede 3b Uribe 2b Anderson can't crack the lineup as a defensive specialist right now. There is no way Ozzie has him leading off. We will have the same lineup until we are in 4th or 5th place.
  21. According to Hawk, Experience buys you shorter slump times. I guess a year and a half is shorter than say what 7 years.
  22. QUOTE (WillieHarris2 @ May 7, 2008 -> 10:04 PM) haha swisher with a great throw you guys criticize my eye when i watch the sox but swisher consistenly does not position himself correctly when preparing to throw those balls on a sac fly he is not getting behind the ball at all like a good outfielder does but whatever im sure the moderators will come after me with some lame comeback that has nothing to do with refuting my argument in a logical way seems fallacious and why did quentin just one hop it to the cut off man? oh and another nice play by quentin So let me know what your solution is, at least your craziness should entertain us. I am sure it involves Owens replacing Quentin. Lay it on us, Oh baseball oracle.
  23. I think Buerhle just cracked when the kick the ball crew and the rotten offense showed up. Hopefully the rest of our pitchers ignore the fact that they will struggle to get wins with the worst offense in the AL.
  24. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ May 7, 2008 -> 09:01 PM) Oh well this one is over...it was fun lastnight. Too bad the softball team decided to come back. Corpseball. 7 runs one night, no offense at all for 4 days after. Our offense is setup for pitchers to throw down the cock. If the pitcher spots low and away. Its over.
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ May 7, 2008 -> 09:01 PM) Any game where we want to start Brian Anderson, I think that would be fine with me. No we will get another twitter alert from Cowley so we can motivate a few guys. Nothing will change. And they will get dominated from an offensive standpoint. The pitching is division winning capable. The offense sucks and needs Kenny and Ozzie to start the moving chain.
