QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 08:46 PM) Now i highly doubt we get A-Rod, but if we do than our payroll would likely be in the $130's-140's for the next 4-5 seasons... does JR take that risk? I would much rather spend $20 mill/ season on Johan Santana than spend 30 mill/season on A-Rod. Pitching wins titles.. look what Boston did with spending big money on Dice-K and Beckett. IF we are to spend big money THIS offseason, i would want it on a CF, (Hunter or Rowand). Next offseason lets make that HUGE push for Santana!! I love Johan and would love him on this team as much as the next person. But a guy who pitches once every 5 days versus a guy who will hit over 320 with 50 to 60 homers and a crapload of RBIs in our bandbox would be a better bet. Pitching wins titles, but ask the Yankees how their playoff chances would of been this year if Arod wasnt going nuts in the season. The idea that anyone wants to give Aaron Rowand big money scares me.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 01:44 PM) niiiice. i haven't been convinced to move from Tiger yet. I'll wait for the bugs to get out (normally thats a non-issue with Mac), but I've only had Tiger for like 10 months and I still am making love to it everyday. Well I am the early adopter. I got my copy on Friday at 6pm from the Apple store in Oakbrook with the Free Apple Tee Shirt. I had it installed on my system by 7:30 that night. The install went without a hitch. I also did some hardware prep on my system before the upgrade, which a lot of people forget to do. I have the original Macbook intel version. I ma x'd out memory to 2 Gig and added a new 200 gig 7200 RPM sata drive to it to better support Leopard. I recompiled a few of my BSD based apps with the new Xcode base so I could take better advantage of Leopards kernel upgrades. No issues.. The Java apps I have run fine so far. 2 software updates so far from Apple support as well. Parallels and the rest of my software works just the same. The only issue is my Matrix Red Pill screen saver is not supported. The site needs to recompile it for Leopard. It actually fixed an issue with wireless negotiation with my WAP at home. The only bummer is that I was hoping that Sun's ZFS was rumored to be supported in Leopard as a read/write file system. However not the case in this version. The next step is to wait for Microsofts Office 08 that comes out for the Mac in 1st Quarter 08. That should help my access to our office environment. Outside of Time Machine, and a few other nuances the upgrade isn't justified yet for mass users.

Edgar Renteria traded to the Tigers

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 04:02 PM) The Tigers suddenly have very little need for ARod. Anyway...now, it's officially time for me to start hoping that the Renteria Boston had was the "AL" version of Renteria. Detroit drew over 3 million fans at 37k per game. The won 88 games, and will have the financial ability to cover this. If they want Arod, they can bid with the rest of them. And could use him at 3rd base. If they get Arod as well, this team becomes a monster. Their young pitching, and young prospects plus some of the power they have. It would be a tough division. -

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 03:41 PM) I would have preferred Renteria to Tejada. Simply put I think Tejada is more likely to break down, plus I don't care much about power as I think the sox still have plenty of pop in there lineup. I'm more concerned with the table setters. Furcal is still my top choice, especially if he could be had for prospects not named Gio/DSL/Carter. The Sox obviously could also offer a veteran starter, but if they add Arod they probably wouldn't want to add a starter that makes much money. You figure with Hu ready to go, that Furcal should be on the block. We could use a leadoff hitter, and a shortstop. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 03:37 PM) Ugh....the first move, and the AL Central already becomes tougher. It's ok though, this time of the year is fun. I still believe Tejada and Furcal are more likely options than Renteria was. That would be nice. I have a feeling that Uribe and his potential will be back to spin in a circle and tell Farmio profundo. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 03:35 PM) You had to think he was somewhere in the mix. Of course the price tag is quite high if he returns to his AL-ways Wait till we exercise Uribe's option. Thats a price tag that's high. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 03:33 PM) wow, ATL got raped How again, wasn't Kenny in on something like this. -
Another pesky hitter to add to their lineup. Kenny better get going. Renteria would of been an upgrade over Uribe.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 02:53 PM) Joe Crede haters don't remember Brooks Robinson. Crede is special with the glove like Brooksie. And he gets clutch hits like Brooksie. Nobody is perfect, people. Crede is an above average player. In certain years he's an all star. I hope the same for Fields. I'd like to keep both of them. If Joe is healthy I'd rather see us deal Thome and make Fields DH the next 12 years. We've got to trade something to get something. Stop listening to Hawk. Joe Crede is not Brooks Robinson.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 10:50 AM) And just like the people who pick an active hurricane year and shout "global warming!", this is an utterly useless argument for or against CCGW. CCGW may cause more hurricanes, but we won't know it until there have been a few decades' worth of data to analyze. I mean, unless we suddenly start getting 40 or 50 named storms a year, then maybe it will take just a few years. But barring that, you cannot look at something with such a small N value as hurricanes in a given year, and take anything from it. Tell the Goracle that. Katrina, Global Warming

QUOTE(rockren @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 12:51 AM) Eh, I'd rather have ARod. Johan won't bring in the money that ARod does (seeing he only pitches every 5th game) and Lowell can't bring Pappi and Manny with him. I would rather have Arod as well. His numbers at this park would be sick. Just insane. per year x for the near conceivable future.

QUOTE(Beastly @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 12:54 AM) Hey guys, So the World Series is over and the team is going to be reworked. I was curious of what you think they'll do first and then follow up with? My idea would be that they keep Uribe since Guillen has a crush on him and hopes he'll shape up and lose weight, and I hope to god that we don't have Myers or Erstad back. It is players like Erstad that make me want to vomit and stop coming out to the ballpark. (Okay, maybe not the coming to the ballpark part of it is a bit too extreme, but you get the point of it.) I am also curious as to what free agents the team will sign, given A-Rod opting out yesterday from his deal. It seems like there is a revamp need for the bullpen, a second baseman, (Do you guys think they'll just use Richar?) another stud centerfielder, and a new starter (if we deal Contreras, this would likely be someone within the minor leagues) and perhaps a shortstop if we lose Uribe. I would think that the Sox would (or should) target: Kazuo Matsui Tadahito Iguchi Yorvit Torrealba (if they cut Toby Hall) A-Rod (Maybe, maybe not. Key words: Albert Belle.) Torii Hunter Aaron Rowand Scott Linebrink Joe Beimel Joe Kennedy Also, when should we expect some sort of action to occur or at least when should we expect decisions to happen in terms of the organization's players with options? No Aaron Rowand.

QUOTE(Vance Law @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 12:16 AM) Johan $25 - $30 million Lowell $12ish million. Maybe it goes a little over $40. Arods VORP 96.6 Lowell 46.5 Santana 57.7 = 104.7 So Arod by himself is almost just as much as Lowell and Santana according to Vorp. Arod plays in a park that doesnt favor the right handed hitter. Imagine if he was here, in the bandbox in the summer when a fart gets the ball out.
-
QUOTE(Vance Law @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 12:00 AM) Who would you rather have for your $40 million if you are the Yanks (or any other team)? Johan and Mike Lowell or Rodriguez and xyz pitcher who costs $10 million How much are Johan and Mike Lowell going to get paid. I want to see how this math will work out . I think that Johan and Lowell will make more as a group than Arod and the 10 million dollar pitcher. Just my thought.

QUOTE(Vance Law @ Oct 28, 2007 -> 11:50 PM) The possibility of Rodri would definitely be exciting. Especially if he could play a few years at short, then move back to 3rd as he ages, then 1st base, then DH. I think it would honestly take a real serious injury for him not to be useful at least as a DH even 10 years from now. However, if it takes trading veterans like Konerko, etc. to afford it, I can't realistically see him wanting to come over and play with several of Owens, Sweeney, Richar, Fields, Danks, Floyd etc all on the same team. I really think with the movement of Konerko and Garland, and the ability to get some more young talent to infuse our system would be good enough. Thome, Arod, Dye Crede and Fields looks pretty good next year for offense. Remember Thome comes off the blocks after next year and Dye will come off the cards in a few years as well. So we are not as tied up financially that you think.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Oct 28, 2007 -> 11:39 PM) Okay, then how do you judge a players postseason preformance? So, Brad Hawpe didn't completely suck this world series cause he only had 15 PA's or something? You realize that guys who put up MVP numbers during the regular season usually help their teams get to the playoffs. Thank god we have some clutch guys on our team that were setting up their golf games as of early September.

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Oct 28, 2007 -> 11:09 PM) That. I want a "real" world series this year. The Cuban national team would have to put up a better fight than this. You see Josh Fogg starting game 3, and you wonder how the AL-NL split gets to this... When Byrnes is the number 3 hitter on the other NLCS team. Its amazing. -

QUOTE(RME JICO @ Oct 28, 2007 -> 11:04 PM) One of the most boring World Series ever. What are the odds that the Red Sox are on the cover of the next Sports Illustrated? Next week in the NFL is Indy vs NE, both undefeated at 8-0. God the NL is terrible.
