  1. QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 02:03 PM) Obama's Technology Agenda... http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20071...geekerarti.html I like the idea of a national technology czar or CTO. The only problem is that they have had a security head for technology for years, and its always a revolving door of people going through there. They go there, get their name, and then move out to the book and lecture circuit. Howard Schmidt is a perfect example.
  2. This should take care of the problem. Put one on the southern border, and then one on the northern border. Fly a few predators with night and heat vision.
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 12:16 PM) Olney's reporting that the Dodgers #1 target this offseason is Aaron Rowand. I just hope KW keeps his poise this offseason with these huge deals that will be handed out. It really is too damn bad we're not going into rebuilding mode. It would cost a fortune to get this team back into the AL Central picture. Well if they miss out on the large mix, this is what you will get at soxfest. Hawk at Soxfest "You know who I think is going to have a superstar breakout year, Jerry Owens. I am so glad that Kenny was so wise not to sign a guy to a large crazy contract. I mean I love Aaron Rowand and Torii Hunter is a superstar, but something about speed. You know speed doesnt slump. Stats don't tell the whole story of a players worth. Dont tell me that you hit it, tell me when you hit it. Remember the magical season in 05, what got us there. That would be Scott Podsednik and small ball. I love Ozzieball"
  4. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 09:32 AM) So what if he does a hop? As long as he still catches the ball. He's averaging at fielding the balls, but pretty great at throwing runners out. Hell, Rowand misplays balls but he's thought of as a great defensive CF. Nite, Soriano has a good arm, and he has some speed. However his instincts on the batted ball are bad. First step is what makes a good outfielder. Soriano doesnt have that, and he uses his speed to make up for mistakes on his first step. His speed allows him to close on some mistakes, however that was Pods MO for years. Rowand is probably one of the more overrated outfielder from our fanbase, but he for the most part has a good first step. Rowand's issue here was coming in on the ball. He went back and to his left and right very well. Rowand's first step is always back. Soriano's first step depends on how he feels that day, I have seen him break hard on a fly ball and have it sail over his head. Then break back on a line drive, and have it loop in for a hit. Not that it matters for Soriano, his offense overwhelms any deficiencies in the field. Plus LF is probably the best place to stash him.
  5. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 01:41 PM) Just another case of the drunk elephants leading the drunk elephants... Well hopefully they didnt let Paris near the elephants, or we will need 55 gallon drums of this....
  6. QUOTE(greg775 @ Nov 14, 2007 -> 12:33 AM) I wouldn't worry about the knot in the shoulder. Our crack medical staff thought Big Hurt and Maggs were done also. Maggs was awesome last year and Big Hurt has been decent the past 2 years. Hurt obviously is so slow on the basepaths it's probably been a good thing he's gone, but Maggs still should be a member of the Sox. Keep garland. If we want to win the division we need his innings. Javy, Mark, Jose, and the two younguns won't cut it. I love Buerhle but he doesn't strike a lot of people out and is a question mark each and every year; Javy is Mr. 5 innings still; Jose is awful, simply awful; and the two younguns are too young to count on. I'd rather gamble on Mark, Jon and Javy having career years, getting rid of the old one, and picking up a Byrd type veteran to go with either Danks or Floyd. KEEP GARLAND Where to start. Maggs went to Austria to get some experimental procedure on his leg. Yeah that screams fork over money. Its nice evaluating that one after the fact. His replacement was the WS MVP remember. Frank of the 270 pound and older Frank Thomas's broke his food twice. These are the examples you wish to cite. Our medical staff was spot on. You rip on Buerhle because he doesnt strike out a lot of people, yet he strikes out people a lot more than Mr. Garland. Javy is Mr 5 innings. Did you watch the team this year, or are you from the past. He went deep into games this year, and had a pretty damn good year. But thanks for telling us that Jon's shoulder is okay. I feel its time to give him 5 years for 14 per based on your medical review.
  7. QUOTE(knightni @ Nov 14, 2007 -> 12:01 AM) http://www.freerice.com/ I got up to 400 grains of rice. How many can you all do? I got bored after 1100 grains.
  8. Illegal Lebanese Woman worked for CIA and FBI Very very dumb Thank god illegal immigrants are here just to find work. .
  9. QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 11:04 AM) Why can't we have an EXTEND Garland scenario ? Because its not to smart to give long term deals to pitchers who complain about their shoulder having a knot in it 2 seasons in a row. See Garcia, Freddy
  10. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 10:32 PM) I have no problem missing out on 1 or 2 of these guys if we wind up with #3, 4, or 5. I'll more than happily take Jones or Fukudome. They might well be the better options. Jones has Boras as his agent, you might as well get that thought out of your head. I would rather have Fukudome, but the competition on him might be steep.
  11. Well if Kenny misses out on Torii how desperate does he get with Rowand.
  12. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 01:19 PM) Quit being jealous of the stache The only person that doesn't like him more from this board, is in Iraq right now.
  13. For the love of God NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! I would rather give Walker a contract extension over suiting him back up.
  14. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 12:32 PM) How often does your family get back to Ireland? Any first generation immigrants still around? I was born in Ireland, came over when I was one years old, I am the first generation immigrant. We are the first to come here, the rest of my family is still there. I used to go there at least once a year, when I was little for 2 months in the summer. Now with a family of my own, we go about once every few years. We are going back this summer, it will be the first time my kids are going.
  15. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 07:37 AM) No. Why would I? Apparently you are too. Didn't Hilter say the same about Jews? Not before factory farming became the norm earlier in the 20th century. Before then, eating meat was not very common for most people. It was expensive and mostly exclusive to the wealthy. Hence the diseases of affluence. Chickens are not people, The slaughter of chickens cannot be put in the same context as the execution of 6 million people. Peta uses that analogy of the slaughter of chickens as the same as people. Old Ingrid and her "“A rat is a pig is a dog is a boy.” mentality doesn't wash with the mainstream. My very poor family in Ireland has been raising sheep and yes eating them for lot longer than this century, my family has been farming and raising sheep for a very long long time. If you were a farmer, or were on a farm most likely you had animals that were used as a food source.
  16. Add me to the Fukudome list. I would rather see someone who is patient, and has a high OBP hitting in front of our thumpers, over some random speed guy.
  17. QUOTE(BearSox @ Nov 12, 2007 -> 09:37 PM) For those of you have CoD4: Is the online play in COD4 like it was in COD3 where you basically have the germans and americans and you choose what guy you want and get that weapon set... OR Is it more like Rainbow Six where you can actually customize your character (camo, armor, etc.) and make up your own weapon set. For example, I want gun "A" and I want to put attachment "B" on it. Its a combination. I still like Rainbow Six better. You have to rank up to unlock game modes, and different weapon packages. You cannot customize your gun like in R6. So far the initial multiplayer game is a free for all. For me the gameplay of the Ubisoft games are better. They are more organized for squad based combat. If you like the free for all shooter, then this is the game for you. I like the strategy, and squad based approach. Most of my friends love the game because they are into the shoot them up, and kill em.
  18. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Nov 12, 2007 -> 03:38 PM) Watch the Cubs land Fukudome for RF now. They are drooling over his on base skills. Fukudome would make a nice LF for the sox. The OBP would fill a need at the top of the order.
  19. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Nov 12, 2007 -> 10:03 AM) Who says I'm outraged? Constant comments? I didn't even start this thread. I added a couple of posts. A couple of posts, sure in this thread.
  20. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Nov 12, 2007 -> 08:56 AM) That's a rather assholish thing to post. Go ahead and eat your meat but to people like me who do not eat meat for ethical reasons that is not a mature response to throw back at me. To me it would be like bragging about all the abortions my various girlfriends had over the years to a pro-lifer. The funny thing, is that my post was an obvious joke. Yet I find your outrage quite humorous. This coming from the same person who painted a broad brush that the killing of all animals for food intake is immoral. Thats a rich bowl of self righteousness there. Most of the world eats meat. Its not just some barbaric process that a few people indulge in. I have friends that are vegetarian, and I respect their views. They might disagree with my eating of meat, but I don't hear constant comments. This coming from a person who has pontificated in this forum about the eating habits of the average person, to be offended when someone pokes fun back is a bit funny. And for the bragging of making comments about abortion. We have already heard your funny comments on that as well.
  21. QUOTE(BurlyMan56 @ Nov 11, 2007 -> 09:25 PM) If you're gonna quote something, please quote what I said plus the explanation along with it. I would take Crawford over Cabrera any day. Give up the farm. I appreciate your sarcasm. Like I said, Cabrera is an absolute stud but if we do get him and do nothing else, we'll be still have the slow power guys in the middle of the lineup that can't get anything done if there's no one on base in front of them. Get a leadoff man, ie. Crawford, Figgins and then worry about getting a guy like Cabrera. If we give up the farm for the leadoff guy, so be it. The comparisons to Carlos Lee are similar and we did nothing with Carlos. If you want Cabrera than have fun with Jerry Owens as your leadoff man. A good point. You can give the farm up for Cabrera and be happy but if we finish third the next two years, he will see the $$$ and will be in pinstripes. Even if he does come here, Thome/Konerko all older, JD might be injury prone at that point, Crede will be gone, Fields will be gone in the trade that sent him here, there would be no stability for him to want to stay here. You dont need a fast guy to be your leadoff hitter. I would rather have a high OBP guy that takes walks sitting in front of Cabrera and Thome over Crawford in front of Thome. Cabrera is 24 years old, plays in the grand canyon compared to this park. Do you have any idea of how playing in the bandbox on the southside would affect his numbers. The we did nothing with Carlos is malarkey. Take the 2005 pitching, and stick it on one of the Carlos Lee teams and see how far it goes. We win a lot more division titles and have a chance to go deep in the playoffs. The only thing that moving Carlos Lee did, was to give us financial flexibility when our payroll was in the 70 million to 80 million dollar range. It allowed us to pick up quantity. Thome's money, hell Konerko's money would be near to coming off the books near the end of his contract. He would be 26 years old, just entering in the prime years for a power hitter.
  22. QUOTE(Harvin4Heisman @ Nov 11, 2007 -> 08:28 PM) Of the meeting between KW and Hunter today? At the press conference announcing the free agent signing of Hunter to whatever team signs him.
  23. QUOTE(knightni @ Nov 11, 2007 -> 06:10 PM) http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/tech/2007...xic.iphones.cnn Is iPhone toxic? 3:02 Using your iPhone or iPod could be exposing you to deadly chemicals. CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta reports. There goes my plans on eating my ipod for dinner.
  24. QUOTE(BurlyMan56 @ Nov 11, 2007 -> 04:40 PM) We Don't need Cabrera. We need a leadoff hitter, a SS, a center fielder, not a lazy star who is going to be making alot of money real real soon. He is going to cost a ton and make a ton, give me Josh for the next 5-6 years. We don't need a middle of the order power hitter that reminds me of Carlos Lee. Miguel is obviously a ton better than Carlos Lee but both resemble the same type of player. Lazy. If you wanna go big, give me Crawford and sign Hunter/Rowand. You would rather have a hitter that hit under 250 and has a propensity to strike out, over one of the leagues best hitters who happens to be 24. That makes sense. I like Josh as much as the next person, so let me be very blunt. Cabrera >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Josh Fields
