Hall with some more stellar defense. Get the labrum repaired, and lets see the Wiki show start. -

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 08:31 PM) Owens has mastered the art of bunting directly into the path of an opposing player. Someone should tell him to do that every time, so by nature he'll do the opposite and find an open area of field. We dont teach these things in the minors, so you think they will learn it here. We have a coach that is still employed that told people about perfect storms, and flipping cards. The only thing we teach in the minors, is dip your back shoulder, cheat on the pitch a bit, and swing as hard as you can. -

QUOTE(max power @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 08:23 PM) I'm not ready to give up on gavin just yet. Maybe next start. I would rather see Gavin at 400 k doing this, and possibly learning, than Contreras dropping down and sidearming a small fortune to a similiar ERA. -

QUOTE(soxchick1224 @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 08:21 PM) I think he is hoping that his homer will make us forget his play in the outfield tonight. He still owes us a run. I remember this from last year, he would butcher a play in CF, that would lead to a huge inning. Then he would come up and hit a solo homer. Nice hit mack, catch the f***ing ball. -

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 08:12 PM) ozzie's always saying that uribe can carry a team. Has he ever done that? Is he referring to the equipment? Ozzie also said that if someone doesnt play the game the right way, doesnt hustle that he will bench him. But that was more of a power show to Frank to show him that he was in charge. Uribe can kick the ball around, not hustle on flies, and swing for the fences like no one. And we trot him out. Hopefully we get Hu or Escobar for one of our guys and we can get rid of Profundo. -

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 08:11 PM) That's terrible for Fields to miss a flat 84 mph fastball. I don't know where the "cut" was that Hawk refered to. This guys cutter is not a bat missing cutter. Someone or a group of people have failed our minor leaguers in preparing them to compete. Long looping home run cuts. Someone is teaching that, because every single hitter comes up with the same exact blueprint swing. -

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 08:10 PM) is charlie not available tonight? Someone's going to have to get floyd out of there soon. Does it really matter. The season is lost. I would rather see Floyd for 6 innings and see if he learns and holds his own, or hides in a shell. Floyd is out of options next year. I want to see what he can do up here, not against the minors, and not against ST talent to see if he can learn something or is worthless. I also want to see Richar, and Sweeney up soon. The prancer throw show is too much for me. If you are not going to lead him off, then DFA him or trade him. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 08:03 PM) I love seeing Hall set up inside with a fastball to one of the best fastball hitters in history. Take notice of his target that he puts up with the mitt. Instead of setting up on the black, his mitt is sitting right over the middle of the plate. If thats the target, no wonder his CERA is so high. -

Do we take the time to actually position our players to the way we are attacking the hitter. You are throwing in, on a fastball hitter who has quick bat speed. And we have our third baseman off the line. -

QUOTE(southsida86 @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 07:46 PM) What is very strange about that is that his fastball was hitting 91-94 for the first two batters and then magically dropped into the high 80s. Very troubling. He is throwing a two seamer a lot it seems. -

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 07:36 PM) He just laid that last one right in there to Guillen. His fastball just looks incredibly hittable. His fastball is located pretty low in the zone right now. His two seamer has some decent movement. His location on his fastball has been excellent for the most part in that inning. The reason it looks hittable right now, is that he hasnt gotten a curve over yet. He had a quick bitter that he threw to Sheff, that had him swing over. But he hasnt gotten the big bender to drop at all right now. If he gets that near the zone, his fastball in its currently location will be just fine. If he doesnt get his curve over and then elevates his fastball he will be in trouble. But the location he has had so far for the fastball has been excellent. Why is pods on this team. A high schooler would of had a play at the plate. Its not like Sheff was ripping around 3rd. Pods received that ball charging and he wasnt that deep. His arm is very very sad. -
EAT s*** TIGGERS!!!!

I like Murton, but we need to have a package that has a SS of the future involved. The dodgers Hu, or the Braves Escobar is what we should be shooting for.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 12:06 AM) Well said. Owens is not the answer. Nice job tonight by Owens 1-for-6; Iguchi 1-4; Thome 0-5; Paulie 0-4. Way to set the table against the Tigers guys. How bad was Mark? Wow. This team like you said truly is garbage. The reason the team lost last night, was the failure of hitters to plate runners in scoring position. It had nothing to do with the table setters getting on. There were plenty of guys on, just not a lot of execution of hitting with RISP. Both teams had opportunities with men on, the tigers hit with men on, we didnt. End of story.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 10:54 AM) 1. There was a Tigers fan sitting next to me at yesterday's game and he appeared to have scabies all over his body. Rashes and huge rashes and scratches. Either that or he got mauled by Magglio Ordonez. 2. There is a doomish feeling at the ballpark. Or at least there has been every game I want to. 3. Viva Billy Pierce! My experience with tiger fans for the most part has been positive. I was surrounded by a bunch of them in 161 yesterday. There were only 2 that were annoying, and it had nothing to do with their tiger fan affiliation. The one fan had a more nasally version of Chris Griffins voice from the family guy, he was about 60 and was talking the entire game about how he was a music teacher and how he is at a convention. He spent the first 3 innings calling every member of his family, friends and such to tell them how he is sitting on the left shoulder of Monroe, and how he cant believe he can see them because he cant get tickets at Comerica. Even the tiger fans in front of me wanted to choke him out. Games lately havent been all that lively. But how can they be. -
QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 09:55 AM) Speaking of which, Shaffer was the guy that scouted Jack McDowell IIRC. Well to be honest, with that set of drafts we were coming off horrible seasons and had some top 10 draft picks. McDowell was number 5 overall in 87. He was a stud in the college world series. Ventura was next year, and if you look at his college numbers the guy was dominating. Thomas was the next year. Then Alex Fernandez, who won the golden spikes award that year. Being bad over a period of years is a great way of retooling the old minor league system. Trust me, unless we are totally incompetent. If we are bad for a few years, our minor league system will go from baren to impressive in a short period of time. Its the nature of draft position. The only new factor these days is the boras factor.

Why do you still watch the Sox?
southsideirish71 replied to Jimbo's Drinker's topic in Pale Hose Talk
For some of you, this is your first unpleasant taste of bad baseball. Its hard to look at a team, even when you look and know there are flaws, and see it unravel. You will see over the years, a cycle of good baseball and some years when its bad baseball. I was lucky enough to sit at a world series game, and witness something that I never thought I would see. Its still something that gives me chills to think that I was at a world series game. When you know that the product on the field isnt good. My suggestion is to find the game within the game. Watch matchups, watch to see how young kids execute. How they fail, are they learning. I like to see how a pitcher sets up a hitter, or vice versa. To me, we are at an interesting cross roads. We could see a very different team next year. Or in some cases next week. Its hard to see them fail like this, but there is something exciting about the unknown here. Its scary, sure. I look forward to seeing the sox competitive soon, hopefully. Taking it on the chin, is not the easiest thing to do. But sometimes, in life. You need some of the sour, to savor when its sweet. -

I was at this rotten game. How many f***ing times do we need to see home run cuts, with men on. The only time I saw Miller really step it up, was when Fields came up with the bases loaded. He dropped 2 97 mph fastballs, the fastest pitch of the night on the gun at the cell. He was 91-94 for the most part. Owens had 2 nice catches. The swing for the fence crew with men on is sickening. How many years of bad fundamentals at the plate do we need to see before we make a change. Either get more fundamentally sound swings, or ditch the lift and pul coach. -
QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 23, 2007 -> 04:47 PM) I don't think anyone suggested what should be the obvious choice for Jose right now -- put him on the disabled list. Maybe he says he's not hurt, but his lost velocity says otherwise. They could shut him down for the rest of the year, or try to bring him back in September to see if he can win a few games and show some value in the trade market. Jose righting himself during that 2005 season and turning into a #1 horse set up that team to win the World Series. We weren't winning with Mark Buehrle as the #1 guy. And he kept it up the first half of last year. But then it all went in the crapper. You have to believe something physical happened to him last year to turn him into what he is now. Because he hasn't just been bad this year, he was bad all of the second half of last year. So, I say, fix his body and trade him, or bring him back. But you can't just eat his contract, and he's not an answer for the bullpen. This is like a disclosure on a house. If you dont have medical proof, say as in a MRI, it is only conjecture and bulls*** that he is injured. You can still send him off with a buyer beware(drop in velocity) This is about getting the money off the books. If you want to see the 2005 Contreras again, I suggest you buy the commemorative video. You can see it all the time. You realize that pitchers, get older, have wear and tear on their shoulders and bodies. You realize that Contreras abused the living piss out of himself when he was pitching for cuba, lots of innings and pitches under that right shoulder. The worst thing that could happen, is if we take a peek at that shoulder and you see a partially torn labrum, or other tears and rips. Maybe a fraying of the shoulder. Something that would put him on a long road to recovery, and would basically cost us money. If you ask him about his health, and he says he feels fine. Then you asked and you dont open pandoras box anymore. Maybe Garcia had shoulder issues last year, maybe he didnt. But we sit here with Gio and Floyd. And thats a hell of a lot better than a pitcher who has been shut down in his walk year with a bum shoulder.
