So instead of a computer becoming self aware to end the world. Its just a Blue Screen of Death, or piece of malware that will end it. Time to build the bomb shelter.

Sox on Veterans HOF ballot/results tuesday
southsideirish71 replied to StatManDu's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Maybe Santo should of ditched the clicking of the heels a bit earlier in his career, and he might of made a few more friends on the HOF ballot. -
People need to take performances in ST especially at the beginning with a grain of salt. Its about getting your work in, and working on new things. Especially pitchers. I have seen ST games where a pitcher will leave out their entire arsenal, just to work on throwing one pitch for a strike.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 26, 2007 -> 05:26 AM) NSS, here is the balancing act. When the prisoners are put to work, they are now competing with workers that did not commit a crime. The government stops buying from Company A in Tallahassee and starts buying from Pontiac Prison. I am all for putting the prisoners to work. It keeps them busy, and you can use a reward system. You work so much, you get more free time in the yard. You can buy items(non contraband) from a in house store. Make them learn a work ethic. It beats them lifting weights, fashioning weapons and running gang activity. We know they can already do all of that, hence why they are in there in the first place. As far as the competition thing. Buying from the prisoners is still a better option than mainland china. Because frankly, if we are shopping for a price that is where they are going to go for the purchase anyways.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 24, 2007 -> 02:43 PM) apparently Iguchi has power that he's sacrificing in the 2 hole Ozzie can be a huge idiot sometimes if he's actually telling the truth Ozzie is trying to recreate the Florida Marlins, lefty Pods is Pierre except with his groin he isnt fast, good, or gets on base, and Erstad would be his number 2 hitter. How about this, just stop the lift and pull crap and have some of the hitters learn to hit line drives and this need for bunting and stealing crap will be negated. If a guy can hit a ball into the gaps and run around the bases its a bit better than having some guy bunt, steal and waste outs. -

Does MLB.tv blackout local games based on your credit card billing address? -
Maybe she is a highlander fan and is just going for the Kurgan look.

The only thing I will say about MLS and why its a success is not the level of footbal on the pitch, but the fact that it allows for guys like Bocanegra, McBride, Dempsey, and others to get a start to show some skills and get picked up for Europe. Playing on a reserve team in Europe is more dead end, than getting some MLS time. Before the MLS there wasnt a place for a lot of our guys to go and hone their craft. Here is what the MLS needs to do, and it has been outlined a bunch of times by other people. 1.) Develop a youth clubs, leagues for the elite players in the US. Hire foreign striker and footwork coaches to develop our youth for more attacking soccer. 2.) Hit the inner city huge, I dont care if they have to fund a league and guarantee something like a private high school scholarship . There are people that are not good enough to play the other sports that would be still the best athlete on the pitch. Lure them with promise of a nice education and then show them what the guys in Europe make. 3.) Align the MLS rules with the FIFA rules 100%. Have a single table, and at the end the top so many teams get to play in the playoffs. 4.) Take a percentage of the top stars, and sell them off to Europe. Take the bank you get from that, and put it into development of the youth system. This is the way the Dutch and Scottish leagues which are 2nd tier due to the depth of the leagues are run. PSV is one of the feeder teams for Chelsea. Oh and they beat Arsenal 1-0 in a Champions League game yesterday. So you can get better with Youth leagues, and keeping the club in the black by selling off some of your stars.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Feb 19, 2007 -> 12:49 PM) Yeah but what's Bobby hitting on the gun right now, if he's throwing like he was for a good portion of last season, he might just be one of the softer tossers in the pen this year. I think the weight kept his velocity down a bit last year. If he can keep from 2nds in the buffett line he should be fine. Bobby is just the type of guy that needs to throw a lot in ST so he can stretch out his arm. So hopefully he does a lot of side work to augment his in game work.

I get a kick out of people who try to sue their former employers for this type of crap. I have testified a few times on these types of cases, but this is a new one. The ADA doesn't apply here at all. This guy has one issue, and that is he is a moron. If you cannot control yourself to not visit sex chat rooms at work, then don't belong in the workplace. This guy has only one person to blame and that is himself. You go to work to work. Any other fringe benefits is up to you and your employer. If I thought for a minute that my job was going to be at risk because of any action, I would stop the action. Its simple. Most companies have an acceptable use policy that you sign when you are hired. Your logins, and your internet usage is bannered. And most people have a privacy stamp at the bottom of their email. These are all friendly little reminders that you are being monitored. The fact that this guy was warned once, and still decided to continue is a joke. Everywhere I have worked for one catch of internet porn use and its HE GONE. Internet sex chat and pornography has a couple of issues that you need to be aware of. One is the sexual harassment protection that you need to provide your company, because god forbid if you knew about this and continued to allow him to do this and a female coworker passed by and made a complaint. Another thing is most of these porn websites are the biggest garbage collector for viruses/malware/crap on the internet. You wont be the only thing dirty when you leave those sites. The other is this person is a member and representative of your company. We fired some douche that was picking up girls on the chat and would arrange for his meetings and sex on his travels. Well there are a few problems with it. One was that one of the girls he picked up was one of our clients presidents college daughter. We lost a multi million dollar account, because of some goof doing this from his desk and was having her call him here. The only thing that I question, is if they really wanted to keep this mope, why did they give him a warning and give him internet access. If it was me, I would of put him on a restricted subnet and would of kept him onto local company resources only. Keep your porn at home. Its simple.

Anyone that wants to dump KW or thinks he should be fired is a first class moron. We just one year out from the WS parade, so get a clue. The only thing I think is that he should keep a lot of this behind closed doors, that is all. Players and their agents will leak this type of info. But when its coming from KWs mouth is when I have a problem. He is an executive and should handle himself as such. The whitesox have had a long history of not going into long term deals with pitchers. So them keeping with their long acting policy, I dont think it will work in the long term, but hey at least they are consistent. However they have paid top dollar at times, or at least within what is considered a normal contract for players for a while also. We haven't heard a thing about Dye, who knows what is going on there. We have 2 choices here with the state of our farm system. We either complement our talent with some FA stock to keep things going. Or we trade some of our top talent for top prospects. With the state of our farm system, we cannot just fall back and rely on what we have from a positional standpoint. Our pitching in the farm, is a lot better now than a lot of people give it credit for.
-
They need to resign Tad. Thats not even an option. I would like to see them resign Dye, but if they are not send him to the Dodgers and pick up some nice young talent. For the Dodgers Dye would be the difference in getting past round one in the playoffs and maybe getting to the WS in a weak NL. They need to ink someone, if they dont want to do a pitcher fine. But you cant say the same about the position players. You can go young with the pitching, but you still need to spend money on the position players. The sox need to start to keep their top lip and their bottom lip together on contract negotiations. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Feb 18, 2007 -> 12:01 PM) There is a difference between being cheap and not paying ridiculous contracts for players who aren't worth that amount of money. KW has always shown a willingness to sign people, he's just not going to overpay. It's not like we won't sign anybody to fill those holes next year. And like I, really Milkman, said above, he is hoping those prices come down so he can gets the ones on this team already. Going cheap makes me think that our payroll would go way down, but we haven't seen any sign of that. It's just not going to go way up past 100 million, which it would have to do if you are going to give guys like Buerhle 5 year, 15 mil a year. When has the price of anything gone down. The teams are getting large profits from radio and broadcast rights like the Direct TV package. The agents know the money is there, and someone will pay it. Our minor league system cannot sustain a talent push to be an elite team if we dont infuse some top FA talent on the team.
