QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 11:32 AM) Konerko does have the 5th highest fielding percentage in the major leagues this year right now. That makes Carlos Lee the greatest defensive LF of last year.

QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 08:21 AM) but the arguement that only 3 starters are needed in the playoffs really is not a good one. IMO if you want the best chance to win, you need 4 that you can absolutely count on. the old saying is true, you can never have too much pitching This is the main reason I want Burnett even if it is a rental. I don't understand why people think he will not help us if he is healthy. Our league best ERA is the reason why we win. I appreciate the season Contreras has had thus far but I don't want him starting any playoff game. Plus I don't know how much anyone cares but we'd get 2 picks after offering him arb.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 08:12 AM) I was thinking about this too...does adding AJ Burnett really make us that much better in a 5 game set with Boston? IMO the only thing that would make a significant impact would be another bullpen arm. That depends a lot on if we are only starting our top 3 pitchers. If we are going 4, I don't want Contreras starting in Fenway and we can't guarantee El Duque will be available.

I think this is just rehash of Monday's rumors?
-
At first I didn't want him, but now I realize AJB is a great weapon in the postseason against AL teams who are unfamiliar with him. I'm excited if we don't lose too much major league talent.

Huff seems far more likely than Overbay to me.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 04:10 PM) We gotta get out of this and get timo up I'm with you brother.

After arriving to this thread late I have only one question: how did Timo do today?

QUOTE(cragi @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 09:40 AM) the brewers don't have any obvious holes to fill. This is why they should be willing to look at prospects if they have bigger upside. If they could dump Jenkins contract, they probably would, except that if they combined him with overbay, they would be unloading their 2 most popular hitters and Jenkins still is their best defensive player (along with Hardy). The team has some average, serviceable, cheap players (C, relievers, 3B until Braun) that can be ugraded. Backups Magruder and Durrington can be upgraded, but there have prospects that could take on that role. So what is your take on Attanasio scoffing at the idea of trading Overbay? I think he had some quote today saying, "why would we do that?"

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 09:29 AM) Forget the $$$. We are trying to win a World Series here. I'm not talking about the World Series. Just a simple comparison of three firstbasemen based on performance and yearly salary.
-
QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 09:19 AM) IMO overbay > PK and sexson When you factor the amount of $ they are each paid, this comparison becomes laughable.

Here are Gload's minor league numbers if you'd like: http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/ross_gload.shtml

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 04:07 PM) http://p092.ezboard.com/fbrewersfandemoniu...tart=21&stop=37 Link the to the Brewers fan site about the trade. Wow, someone there wanted Overbay for Anderson straight up.
-
If you get Overbay and Frank returns then what? You will have two of PK, Frank, Overbay, and Everett sitting each game, right?

QUOTE(professionalfan @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 12:28 PM) You gotta love how BS can flow so effortlessly from Vince Vaughns mouth. That's my favorite part. Watch the outtakes from the movie 'Made'.

screw this "who do you want to win the WC" talk

QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 11:45 AM) You regulars are seriously more anal about thread space, organization and posting style than possibly any other bulletin board in the history of the universe. This board is about the most laid back in terms of those issues that I've ever posted at. -

QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 08:26 PM) Pods 2b. Our one-dimensional speed guy now over .300 leading the team in average.

QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 02:24 PM) Anything before 1990. Careful.

Lowell and Burnett for just Marte and McCarthy seems a little...fishy...to me.

Wait when did Lowell get thrown in?

I recommend the book, 'The Future of an Illusion' by Freud.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 10:08 AM) Bruce stopped just short of gauranteeing that Burnett would come to the Sox, rental or not. he was talking about how JR ok'ed adding a rental if it was necassary. He also talked pretty highly of Burnett, saying that Matt Clement told him that Burnett has more electric stuff than Prior, Wood, Beckett, anyone he has ever pitched with. I think I read on chicagosports.com or benmaller.com that JR is going to ok a rental, it was KW who prefers to get him signed if possible. This is good news to me.
